- Dusky van DoomRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5First things first: The story is great and what makes this an awesome read is the refreshingly open magic system. There are some slightly lacking parts, but one after another.
Story:
Nothing completely new or unheard, but with lots of good aspects. Our MC already has lived his life for some time and we jump in only after the "Early Life" stage and, thankfully, after the "Academy/School Life" stage, too. What makes this story really good is the nice setup around politics and revolutionary unrest. The author paints a believable picture of the general tension in everyone's life and let's you immerse in the world. The magic system is refreshing and pretty open, making it possible for the author to develop it in many creative ways later on.
Character:
The MC is well fleshed out, side-characters relatable but not with much depth. Even in this few Cps (12), the MC is developing in a good pace and in an understandable way. Sometimes he is making unwise decisions - such is life. No one is perfect and emotions often make us do stupid things. Author-Chan is implementing this pretty well.
Style/Grammar:
Well, I'm a bit torn on this aspect. Author-Chan is using AI for proofreading and editing. I have asked him a bit about how well that works and am honestly amazed by the time he still has to invest after getting AI-feedback. Writing > AI-proofreading > checking and correcting the AI edits. So why even investing so much time, how does the result feel for the reader? That's the complicated part. As the author is not a native speaker, the AI feedback helps on the one hand to widen the diversity in used words and grammar - that is great! On the other hand it "flattens" the writing, making everything a bit "cold" and "emotionless" - that's not so great. However, as the author is reworking the AI suggestions he can nullify the negatives and the reader mostly profits from the AI-parts. While a few of the earlier chapters a a bit clunky, from Cp 8 or 9 on the quality make a huge jump. A - OsiriumWritesRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Honestly, a refreshing and solid read! I figured I’d give it a few chapters, but found myself binging them all. It really manages to draw you in. Good job author!
Style: Easy to read and follow. Chapters are big, but not chunky. It contains a lot of info, but the map helps out a lot! You do see a difference between the earlier chapters and later on, in terms of skill/writing improvement of the author; Which is a good thing!
Story: Warning, it starts off a bit of an exposition-heavy beginning. The tale itself is intriguing, even though it may not be one you are already familiar with, but it’s done in a refreshing take. It doesn’t shy away from difficult and darker topic such as the gap between children after 12 that did or did not awaken their magic, or themes such as revolution, where the protagonist finds himself drawn into a perilous circumstance.
Characters: I enjoyed the main protagonist, Lando. He felt flawed and illogical at times, but in a human way. It felt organic to me, both his starting personality and the way he grew throughout the story itself. The other characters felt less, alive in a way, almost like they were there just to push the plot forwards, yet having nothing really for themselves. It’s probably the only real issue I had with the story.
Grammar: Excellent writing. When I first read it, I didn't find any errors. I didn't notice the odd past/present tense problem or the sporadic usage of passive verbs until I gave it my whole attention. And it’s nothing a second edit wouldn’t fix. Great job! - PawnsRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Well, the story was good and interesting yet nothing new to the genre other than magic system uniqueness.
Story: The MC's choices are logical since he starts in his early life moment and then skips to his life after school. there is no secondary genre added like school days or slice of life and focuses more on the MC's adulthood and the world's politics, painting a good vision for everyone's life and making their actions more believable. The author went so far he even made a map for the world to make you get lost in the pages, i read 12 chapters in one day and craving for more already.
Characters: Other than the MC being great overall the side characters may need more depth in them to feel alive, to me the world seems gray and the MC only shines in that world and I would like it if the MC helped the side characters (either by being kind to them or using them). The MC developing at a slow pace throws me off since he supposes to have greater knowledge than the rest, and sometimes makes bad decisions yet he is not to blame After all emotions screwed all of us once, and the author shows the emotions very well.
Writing: To be honest English is my third language so I don't have that much experience, the Author uses AI for proofreading which in my opinion makes more mistakes than corrections and if you could you can hire a translator to have at least 2 points of view and make the story more fleshed out of the audience, AI makes some moments cold that could be exiting since AI like ChatGPT takes its data from school essays rather than novels. I believe you should add your own style to your work. For example, some jokes here and there that show sides of the characters that AI won't, the quality of later chapters is noticeably better than the old chapters, and as the MC progresses in the story I see the author progressing in his writing.
Overall the story is on the "good but could be better" part, which is by no means a bad thing, i could see it in Rising Stars and I will de - SkarabraeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style: The style of the story is generally good. The author does a good job of creating feeling with his word choice. Their style of writing is also fairly unique. It is generally easy to read too; however, there is a lack of literary devices. Run-on sentences are a bit of a problem, and the paragraphs can be blocky at times. Still, these issues lesson as the story goes on.
Story: The story starts off with poor pacing and an exposition dump as well as poor dialogue. However, it gets much better pretty quickly. Every one of those things improve quite a bit. There are a few problems that are still there in the middle parts of what I read, but they're gone by the end of it. The story itself is quite interesting too. It's one of a world of magic, aristocrats, and revolution with the main character getting caught up in an increasingly dangerous situation.
Grammar: I couldn't find any grammatical errors. If there are any, they don't distract from the story.
Character: All the story's characters are interesting. They are very well depicted and fairly realistic for their situation. Additionally, many of them are three-dimensional. Some aren't, like a few side characters and people who haven't appeared much, but they will probably become more three-dimensional as the story goes on. - HieroGLIFRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0{Disclaimer: Part of a review swap}
Overall:
The story is overall pretty good. It follows the protagonist Lando on his adventures in a world filled with many strong mages. Having awakened with the power to wield the two rarest elements, his identity must be protected from the shadowy organization known for it's monopolization of these elements. At the same time, there is great political unrest and Lando must mature quickly both naturally and in his abilities to be able to protect himself and his family from the many foes around him.
Story:
This is a pretty straightforward story. The magic system is pretty generic and the main character has a head start due to his ability to wield two elements. The story isn't anything out of this world but it certainly isn't boring. If you enjoy seeing characters being brutal and taking their revenge on the offenders then this is for you.
Style:
There is heavy exposition throughout most of the book which could make it a bit challenging to read especially for those who want to get to the action quickly. I feel bad for rating the style so low, but I am very much not a fan of excessive exposition as this could cause me to drop a work. I think it gets better as it goes on but only slightly.
Grammar:
No problems here.
Character:
I think that the characters could definitely have more development. Every character seems to have their own personality but there hasn't been enough interaction for the main character to get to know the other characters much as of yet.
