- BardLyreRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I blasted through the available chapters here, and really enjoyed the atmosphere built up by the author. For this sort of story to work, you absolutely have to feel that the MC can command your sympathy - the figure of Josh nails that. Right from the start, he is a strong stand-in for the reader and this only develops further when the iskei happens. Really strong character work.
There's a well-realised world here and as the chapters progress, we have the lore gradually rolled out for us in a sensible and non-clunky way. It is still early days, but I certainly feel there is great potential here for things to flesh out as the journeys of Josh continue.
Style and grammar are a good strength here. There's a sharp, hard-edged to the prose which is very pleasing. Sometimes, you can find - especially in gamelit - that things are massively overwritten with far too much purple prose. That is absolutely not the case here. A big thumbs up to the author there. It certainly helped me read through all the chapters in double quick time!
Overall, this is a great read. Big thumbs up and looking forward to seeing where this is all taken next. - CharbendRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style
The author does an excellent job of building out a scene and the environment it is set in without sacrificing meaningful content. A lot of the story so far is couched in vivid descriptions of the world, with a few points so far where it breaks up the narrative flow with more directed information.
Story
Building on the classic genre/format of videogame isekai, this novel does an excellent job of making the game world feel real and impactful. I am also loving the direction the story is taking for the MCs class and overall direction within the game system so far. As the story grows there will be room for all kinds of cool characters and interactions to pop up, and I'm excited to see what happens!
Grammar
A few typos and/or misspelled words here and there, but that's all that stood out to me.
Character
Characters in this story are well made! The MC is the focus of this story, and the only (so far) perspective the audience has, but despite that the side characters we meet don't feel flat, in any way. The author has done a good job of making each interaction feel like a meeting of genuine personalities in this world.
I'm looking forward to more! - Cookie MinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Not your usual Game Lit / Isekai story! Author plays with all the tropes in an unusual and interesting way and keeps the reader guessing throughout. MC Josh is relatable and feels like a real
person. You’re egging him on the whole way through. Other characters and even bit parts are well portrayed throughout. Subtle humour contrasts with some tense action scenes as Josh overcomes the varied challenges he faces. The story is very well written with an engaging style and vivid descriptions. There is a mystery at the heart of this world and even at Chapter 44 I have no idea how the story is going to play out. This is not a dungeon crawl - and all the better for that! - FlameCabbageRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An interesting start to the classic get sucked into a litrpg mmo world story. I enjoyed how it started with Josh helping someone who'd noticed the disappearance of others being taken into the world. Made the world feel more real and showed the consequences of people disappearing ahead of time.
Style - The prose is quite good. Not complex but not simple either. Just nice and straightforward. Very enjoyable to read.
Story - Very interesting so far. There's a compelling mystery of how he got sent into this world, as well as how he's going to survive in this world with such an odd and unique class. It will be very interesting to see how his class progresses as the story does.
Grammar - The grammar is good. I didn't really find any errors and it's well edited.
Character - The main character is really well-written. Josh definitely feels like a real person and is no doubt quite relatable. There hasn't been enough time to really expand on other characters yet, but for the scenes where other characters did appear, they all seemed unique and compelling.
Overall, this is a very promising start to a story and I look forward to seeing just what a Plumassier and his feathers can do in a litrpg world. - morphiwritesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall : Good start to a story done in the traditional isekai, sucked into a game world style. I am reviewing this as of the last published chapter which is 5. I will revise if needed at a later time when more of the story is published. The MC is well written in the first few chapters and good grammar.
Style - The style of this story is well written. You can feel that the author has put a lot of thought into this idea and the execution of bringing it to life. Excited to see where it goes.
I would reccommend this story with the caveat that it is in its infancy. Time will tell how the author follows through on the good start.
Story - The story is that of an isekai -> transported to a video game world. There is a mystery element in the beginning chapters that will likely take us through at least the first arc if not further. The world the author has built sounds fleshed out and full. I am excited to see where the author takes that in the future.
Grammar - There are very few grammatical errors, the author is either very skilled or has put a lot of work into editing. I had no issue while reading the first five chapters.
Character - The main character is relatable and you get an immersive experience into the characters thoughts and motivations so far. It will take time to see the character fully fleshed out but from what is posted I am enjoying him. The side characters that we have seen have not had enough exposure to really pop. - xxflowerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Josh, a 21 years old college student, is transported to a magical video game-land. He only has a weird crafting class and his wits to help him in the new place, which has many dangers, including 1000 other gamers.
The writing is very strong, and Josh and the world feel real in a good way. People are not one dimensional and the setting is thought out. Josh is a relatable protagonist and I will follow his journey avidly. - HA-GreeneRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The opening was a little slow for me, despite the flow of the banter between everyone. Josh's motives were certainly amusing, though he seemed a bit drab at first. But by the time that Josh found himself awakening in his new world, his character began to shine a little more with each chapter. The writing is solid and lends to a smooth journey thus far with a reasonable threat and equally reasonable evasion, before a brief lull and calm before the storm, whereby the whirlwind reaps again and introduces the scourge. Of course he would have to volunteer and lend himself to the dangerous rescue mission.
Style: Solid, good turns of phrase.
Story: Slow to start, but then we are getting into some action now.
Grammar: Almost perfect, only a few minor errors detected and that easily amended.
Characters: Ben, Timothy, and his little sister all felt like realistic characters at the start. Josh did as well, but he grew more likeable as the story progressed. The Havenites come across as reasonably superstitious village folk in a medieval setting might, and fortunately for Josh his luck with older women earned him a freebie into getting past their initial worries. I was quite glad to see him earn his keep the next day with Meikel.
In all, I felt this was a pretty good read. I'm looking forward to Josh's shenanigans against the scourge and seeing what other secrets his skill tree is hiding-- or rather that the Guardian hid from him at the start. - the_Enn_GeeRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Written as part of a Reviewswap:
Style: The style is very much fine and does its part, but at a few spots the flow of the story seems to stop where a more continuous narration would have been advantageous. In the end, it does pretty well and falls into no really grave mistakes.
Story: The story is mostly taking a back seat for the first 15k words (end of chapter 1.5), setting up premise and world. Apart from that, it is nice and smooth with some interesting worldbuilding. It uses the Videogane aspect of the LitROG premise to twist some expectations, which is always nice to see.
Grammar: The grammar of the writer is almost spotless. Good proficiency with a good vocabulary that sometimes repeats itself within paragraphs.
Character: The characters are where the novel really shines. They have their own motivations and characteristics and most of them seem like you want to see more of them acting and interacting. There is obviously much thought put into them and their backstory, personality and traits.
Overall, this story does well in easing the reader into the story's setting by placing emphasis on the characters just as well as the RPG elements. - TelRoyal Road★★ 2.0I like the story overall as a genera, it has been done more than once, someone landing in "the irl version" of a video game they play. The anime "Death March in Another World" is a fairly typical example of the genera.
The execution here never makes the jump from "game" to "game like world" on the game mechanics.
It would be better if it told a story rather than a "lets play" of a video-game quest line.
