Description

It’s been centuries since the last Sidhe have travelled the mortal realm unveiled. Longer even since a supernatural war has nearly depleted the meagre magic and robbed the mortals of most their magic. The dragons and demons are nothing but folk tales, not completely forgotten but fading. Now the humans rule, the first big cities have been built, trade flourishes. The church has risen and persecutes those who are of old blood, carrying gifts of old magic in their blood. And those follow the old gods, who are nothing but powerful creatures that have left this realm, bored but not dead.

Burning them on pyres and using them for their own gains. The followers of the old gods would have long since lost hope if not for a tale of a boy to bring a change. Born to human power and Sidhe royalty he is said to upset the balance. But is every change good? And what’s good to old magic that does not care about morals and changes everyone that comes into contact with it.

Enter Ian. A peasant boy, but he was always different, always more. More intelligent, more capable, just like his mother. Or so he had been told. He doesn’t know for himself, since she disappeared when he was still a toddler. After that only his father had been family to him. His brothers never loved him an intruder, born to a woman, that shamed the family by running. Only another mouth to feed. A crime committed by his father a seventh son of a seventh son that should have been handed over for the church to use at birth.

After the death of his father and being threatened by his own brother's Ian sets of his unloving home to conquer the world or at least to become a trader's apprentice. Smart, as he is, he asks for a job on a trading-ship. TheFeodora. A ship that is much more than meets the eye. Travelling across Ley-Lines from one Realm to the other. He learns much more than he bargained for. A captain and a First Mate, that are too, much more than meets the eye.

Finding friends and family where Ian would never have thought to look for it. Discovering truths about himself he would never have expected.

Leading into a turmoil concerning the inheritance of his lost mother, the Sidhe, the Wild Hunt and much more. The church and the others planes won’t leave him alone either.

This Fiction belongs to the same universe as Ancient Blood and Tavern's Edge.

Which are going to be rewritten and continued later on. Immortal characters might appear in their younger versions. This story is set before Tavern’s Edge, which is set before Ancient Blood.

All of them include themes and characters of the Celtic mythology, in a more or less free interpretation.

English is not my native language.

I hope you enjoy either way.

Updates like in my other fictions, as soon as I am able to gather enough time to write.

This story follows Ian, a young boy with latent Sidhe powers, as he navigates a complex world of magic, betrayal, and self-discovery. Initially, Ian leaves his family farm after his father’s death, seeking refuge on a ship called the Feodora. His journey is marked by both hardship and unexpected alliances, as he discovers his true heritage as a Sidhe and the responsibilities that come with it.
The narrative is rich with world-building, delving into the lore of the Sidhe, their connection to the mortal realm, and the political tensions between different factions. Ian’s character development is compelling, as he transitions from a frightened boy to a more confident and self-aware Sidhe. The interactions between Ian and other characters, particularly his uncle Sean and the Kelpie Ron, are well-developed and add depth to the story.
However, the plot can be dense at times, with numerous subplots and intricate magical systems that may overwhelm readers unfamiliar with the genre. The pacing occasionally falters, particularly during the more exposition-heavy sections. Additionally, the story’s reliance on complex Sidhe politics and ancient prophecies may alienate readers who prefer straightforward narratives.
Overall, this story offers a rich, immersive experience for fans of fantasy and magical realism, with well-developed characters and a detailed world. Despite some pacing issues, it provides a captivating journey of self-discovery and adventure. The blend of adventure, political intrigue, and personal growth makes it a compelling read for those who enjoy deep, layered storytelling.
