Description

Katsu Nagano has one rule: stay invisible.

High school is just something to get through quietly—no attention, no drama, and definitely no romance. But his peaceful life takes a sharp turn when he ends up saving the most admired girl in school: Akari Natsuki. Beautiful, elegant, and totally out of his league, she’s the kind of person who exists in a completely different universe.

At least, that’s what he thought… until he finds out Akari is secretly Shizuka-chan, his favorite VTuber.

Now Nagano is caught in a spiral of unwanted attention, cryptic notes, jealous stares, and way too many misunderstandings. His side character dreams are crumbling fast, and for some reason, it feels like the entire school has a problem with him.

He never wanted to be the protagonist—but reality doesn’t care.

The story starts off with a background character named Nagano who wants to avoid being the 'main character'; however under certain circumstances, he simply falls into that category. From inadvertently meeting his beloved Vtuber in flesh to the distance between them, then back together; the direction of the story flows quite nicely, establishing an atmosphere of love, comedy, a bit of misunderstanding, and a dash of seriousness. With other antagonists trying to get in the way between Nagano and Natsuki (the princess of the school), Nagano tries his best to fend off those that dislike them in his own way. Generally, a great story in the making and definitely light-novel worthy material. I'm eagerly waiting for your upcoming work! Much love!

The story cuts a fairly quick place as far as romances go, not taking the entire book to have the characters interact, but besides that it falls to a lot of the regular tropes for better or worse. The prose is very simple, light on descriptions and containing a lot of small talk and banter. The book has its moments, but Katsu tries to be too many things including a bit of a loser everyman fill-in, that is perceived by even in his own family as such. There is one conflict which makes no sense and completely falls to anime logic because there is no natural resolution, and it goes to a conclusion that is still pretty tame - but I'll give it that at least. Overall, this was fun, but mostly in the same sense as just a pleasant ride with some odd throw-ins to give the vibes - almost as if to keep Katsu awkward instead of being genuine. As far as light novels go, this was good.

I like simple stories that express themselves. It may not do anything special but it feels real, and it has a lot of heart.
Vtuber fiction is surprisingly rare on this site, which is odd in my opinion. But hey, it does make this story standout even more.
anyways good luck on your next story.
