This has the raw feeling of a gritty fantasy. You can tell out the gate that there is interesting lore to uncover, and the end of the first chapter had me readily clicking the next button.
The characters have noticeable personalities. Pike is living by his own rules and I find myself laughing at his interactions every time he is involved. His anti-social attitude and reluctance to follow along with everyone else's social normalities makes him stand out clearly against the world. His importance seemed apparent to me almost right away.
I won’t talk about Garth, I’m still healing. I will say that I was also drawn to his character instantly. It’s apparent that a lot of thought has gone into who the people in the story are, and not just what they are there for.
The overall setting of the world has me excited and I'm hoping the author expands on it further.
The magic is subtle and powerful at the same time. Using concepts that seem a lot more esoteric, it makes the magic feel more like an underlying consciousness, rather than a system of rules. I find that concept intriguing since it isn't usually used in a way that lends to a linear narrative. Rangers of Morn doesn't seem to suffer from the concept in the slightest, it only seems to lend to the mystery.
I am enjoying this world so far, and hope to see more in the future.
