- HobbgoblynRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Okay, first off: I thought this was going to be the beginning of another high-fantasy romp by Uncle Muin. The style had me thinking long term story, even though the author's note at the beginning says it's not just a short, but a 1-shot! It didn't feel like that rushed, abbreviated style you usually get with shorts.
This story, so we'll done! I want more, but it's well written so that I don't NEEEEEEED more. Everything I need from the past, in there, everything I need about where this leads? IN THERE!
The Grammar here is well done. Articulate without being stony, or lectury (is that a word? Maybe I'm not the best judge of grammar here)
The wizard, Eberly, was so sympathetic in the beginning of the story. You just fell in with how much he was being put upon to make things "right." And dealing with the family. Wow. I felt for him. There was a line or two where he talked about dealing with the mother, Sarah (Sarai?) Being too smart, and making everything harder for everyone. Hilarious.
And then that ending. Dude. Duuuude. DUDE!! I did not see that coming at all. I was expecting "King Arthur" and that is NOT what happened. Not saying what happened. Spoilers, man. And then, a slight twist ON TOP OF the first twist. Jeez, Uncle Muin can spin a story!
LOVED IT!
