- M3CR_1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I always liked reading novels where its main character seeks some sort of revenge so this is a pleasant read so far. Love the personalities of the characters especially and how well things are described in it. Not to spoil it and keeping as vague as possible, the story is basically the main character seems to have had everything in her past stripped from her and now wants revenge against the ones that did it. That sets a good premise to the story.
The author does well with portraying how the characters feel in different instances which helps me to see a clearly picture of the story he's trying to tell. The characters are also very diverse as I can clearly see each of their different personalities. From what I've read so far, he world system is also explained quiet nicely and easy to understand as long as you simply pay attention to what's been said in the novel.
The grammar might have a few errors here and there but overall the novel's fine! I've read a few chapters so far and I could already tell that this is a hidden gem. Anyone reading this should definitely should give it a chance! - Alex MorgensternRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In my opinion, one of the most important things for a story to be successful is the opening line. In this case, the author nailed it. The first chapter is intriguing and succesful at showing who the main character is.
The characterization is excellent, and even supporting characters become deeper and more developed as the story goes. The author did a good job displaying Emelia’s emotions, her trauma, and the cover paints an excelent picture of her initial situation. Honestly, the chilling account of how she'd been framed and imprisoned, and her cold anger and desire for revenge make it epic.
The style is simple and direct. The author is good at conveying and expressing emotion (he’s applying the show don’t tell rule succesfully most of the time), and uses very vivid descriptions. That’s the strongest point of the story overall. The first chapter ends with an epic line that reveals where the story goes. And the next chapters develop the MC much more and introduce us to the cast.
I love an epic story of revenge!
The only thing that the author should fix is the punctuation. There are a few punctuation mistakes, missing commas, etc. but I am not deducting an entire star, because it's not detracting from the story, and it can be fixed easily with a run through an AI editor. - ALJohnstonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I am not exaggerating when I say this is possibly the best story I’ve read on this website, the characters are phenomenal and the attention to detail in the world is insane. From the first word of chapter one to the last of the most recent chapter I could not stop reading. I truly found myself feeling for every character. The overall story literally feels like I am reading a manga minus the art and I absolutely adore it.
Characters- The characters feel real, they have personality and emotion. Overall 5/5
Story- The story is beyond epic and kept me hooked the whole time and I’d incredibly well paced. Overall 5/5
grammar- The story is easy to read and understand, grammar is solid, a few small things here and there but nothing that’s off putting. Overall 4.5/5
The only reason I can’t in good confidence give the overall rating of five stars is I want more and with the story currently on hiatus I don’t know when I will get to see the story continue. I would 100% recommend anyone read this epic tale, it is very worth the time you’ll put in to reading. I sincerely hope to see more chapters soon - Kio-chanRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Story: The story unfolds with Emelia, the protagonist, being released from captivity and introduced to the world of Cardinal City. From there, she navigates through various encounters, including a tense meeting with the Council of Nine, battles against formidable opponents, and revelations about her own abilities and destiny. The plot is engaging, filled with intrigue, mystery, and moments of action that keep the reader invested. The introduction of key characters, the exploration of political dynamics, and the unveiling of Emelia's past all contribute to the depth and complexity of the narrative. Overall, the story presents a compelling journey of self-discovery and adventure set within a vividly imagined fantasy world.
Grammar: The grammar in the story is generally strong, with clear and coherent sentences that effectively convey the events and emotions of the characters. However, there are occasional instances of punctuation errors, such as missing commas or periods, which can disrupt the flow of the narrative. Additionally, some sentences could benefit from tighter phrasing to improve readability and eliminate redundancy. Overall, while the writing is proficient, a thorough proofreading to address minor grammatical issues would enhance the overall polish of the prose.
Character Development: Character development is a notable strength of the story, as the author skillfully portrays the growth and evolution of Emelia and other key characters throughout the narrative. Emelia's journey from captivity to joining the Council of Nine is marked by moments of introspection, courage, and resilience, allowing readers to empathize with her struggles and triumphs. Moreover, supporting characters like Sakura, Ezekiel, and Rene are fleshed out with distinct personalities, motivations, and backstories, adding depth and richness to the ensemble cast. The interactions between characters are well-crafted, revealing layers of conflict, camaraderie, and intrigue that contribute to t - Merlin PendragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A story-driven fiction. This fiction is story driven that moves to further the plot. The writing as a whole is concise and to the point and gets on with the story which is the focus of this fiction.
Style - As said in my preamble the writing style is concise and to the point, driving forward the plot - the main attraction of this fiction. Sometimes it can be a bit overly plain, the typical repeated he says she says sort of thing. Not those exact words but there can be a lack of variation in pronouns, nouns and the like.
Story - The story is the main reason for reading this and thus I don’t want to spoil anything. There is effective use of foreshadowing and other storytelling features.
Grammar - Little bit of redundancy, little bit of repeated adjectives, little bit of clunky phasing in one or two spots. No spelling mistakes that I could find but I’m dyslexic so…
Character - The Characters are unique and diverse though at times a bit flat and bent to narrative. Overall pretty good.
In conclusion, If you’re reading this I’d give this fiction a shot, it will probably drag you in. - scantraRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Story: This story starts with Emelia being released from captivity and being made part of the Council of Nine after her town is destroyed. The story pulls you into the mystery right away as you are left wondering what powers or demons Emelia harbors. The story is full of fantastic world building and as you read on, the history of the world and the characters slowly unfolds. I would say this is probably my favorite thing about the novel and something the author does very well. The rich history and the action make the novel compelling but it is mainly a plot-driven story and could use some character-driven conflict to make it shine.
Characters: This novel features several main characters that all seem to have fleshed-out backgrounds and character traits. However, there were times in the story that I wished we could have gotten a clearer picture of the motivations and the internal conflict of the characters. This is a common problem with plot-driven stories. They tend to put character conflicts and motivations in the back seat which makes it difficult to fully invest in the story or overarching conflict.
Grammar: If there were any grammar or spelling errors in the story, I didn't find them. The author did a good job of polishing their work.
Style: I think the writing style and descriptions were on point. They writing style reflects the mood of the story quite well and the action scenes in particular have well-placed tension. - S.nufflesRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This book took me back to the classic fantasy genres that Light Novels, anime and manga absolutely revel in. With this new iteration of the formula comes fresh new concepts and a slew of uniqueness mixed in with the familiar.
Story: is probably this fiction's strongest aspect. A vibrant world full of name-dropped history begins from the moment you start reading and leaves you wanting to know what everything means and how things are going to pan out. The pacing is quick in the beginning, but for this type of story, it doesn't feel out of place.
Character: is another strong aspect of the story. A recognisable aesthetic, one you'd be familiar with if you've read Light Novels of the same genre, yet each character has their unique place in the story world, yet refuse to unravel to you at a moment's notice. Much like the world, the characters drop hints here and there, but never anything significant until the time is right. Emilia acting as the narrator brings a childish yet pleasant flair to the reading experience.
Grammar: is a known issue by the author, so I won't harp on it too much. The problem mainly manifests itself in a lack of cues for the audience. An absence of commas and full-stops can disrupt flow, yet I had no issues following along with the story itself. It does all it fundamentally needs to, and that's absolutely okay, yet for many it may be jarring and immersion breaking.
Style: Is where I had some gripes, although this may just be personal preference. Some of the author's brilliant ideas weren't communicated as effectively as they could have. A matter of polish that I don't like to criticise usually, yet it would be wrong of me not to mention it. Sentences may drag on with too many ideas in a single sentence, or descriptions may be cut short, leaving you in the cold. This may be an issue to many, or a simple 'lost in translation' of style situation. Either way, it still works most of the time.
If you're familiar with the style, or perhaps a newcomer to i - StrahdsillystrawRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The Phoenixs keeper was an excellent read, and I would love to see where the story goes from here! The characters all had several levels of depth we clearly haven't dug to yet and it's exciting waiting for these little foreshadows to bloom.
I've grown fond of the various exclamations that we wouldn't see in our world but are a fun immersion tool in a novel like "Fates!" as a curse of sorts. Of course, I'd like a bit more explanation of them, especially over the currency being called "eels" when nothing else has pointed towards eels being relevant to the kingdom so far.
The plot progresses steadily, it doesn't get stale but I don't feel like it's being rushed along either. The author is also rather good at transitioning between said slower aspects and faster action.
The grammar could use work, and it definitely jolted me out of my immersion more oft then not. I'd say their use of commas is the biggest problem, but the spelling is fine and I saw no you're/your or other homophone issues. A proper grammar spell check program would solve the majorities of this novels issues to be honest.
Overall, give it a shot! It's definitely a good story hiding behind a few corrections and I'll be waiting for it to reach Rising Stars or the like. - ChtaeRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This story made for a pleasant and smooth read - I found myself at chapter 4 before I even noticed.
It seems to be a revenge story, with larger threats, both external and internal. There's enough mystery to make the reader curious, and the plot is very fast-paced.
So far, we only had a glimpse of the magic system, but it seems fairly interesting and unique.
As for criticism, I think the story could really use an editing pass, with particular regard to clarity and punctuation.
I also think characters' motivations and reaction could be made clearer and more realistic. Possibly because the plot moves so quickly, characters seem to act in very extreme ways for unclear reasons - some are extremely friendly to the main characters, some extremely hostile, and there aren't clear reasons for either.
In any case, the story made me interested enough to keep reading. - aBoyWithKeyboardRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I really liked the story. It is something which grows on you slowly. To get a good grasp of the story, it will require a few chapters. For me the only problem was that some chapters, especially the starting ones got too much to grasp. There were also lot of talking, and it was very hard to focus on a character's emotion.
The author is great the character design is one of the many things that I liked. But, the author should also try to give some more emotions to the characters.
Overall the story is very nice, readers just need to give it some time to grow. Some few chapters later, the piece gets really interesting.
