Description

Simon is a typical professional eSports playing teenager in a world that contains superpower and the resultant superheroes, supervillains, andsupermonsters. When his tournament is attacked by one said supermonster, he gains Gamer-like progressive LitRPG powers.  He now has to navigate the trials and tribulations of a cape life all the while trying to level up and complete quests that his not always very helpful, trolling power presents to him.Julia is a typical teenager going through a rough time and visiting the mall the tournament is held at. She gains powers at the same time as Simon during the attack. She deals with loss of family and surviving the wrecked city together with her cluster-trigger mate. This is a fanfiction based in the Parahuman Series universe by Wildbow, using new original characters in a different city. This first book is actually already complete on other sites, and book 2 is ongoing. The additional leads feature more primarily in book 2, and also shifts to Brockton Bay and involves interactions with canon characters.

It's rare to get gamer fanfics that have legitimate substance behind the numbers. The power scaling does not get too crazy, leading to more clever situations where Simon has to best think how to leverage their available options to get through nigh-unwinnable situations. The author does a good job in making Simon feel like a person, with the looming threat of losing his personhood as his powers become evermore time-consuming and addictive. The insights we get into other characters perspectives are not only well-written, but often added needed context or push the plot forward, contrasting to interludes in other fiction that typically feel like unnecessary side stories.

I really enjoyed reading this story over the years. The characters are realistic (for better or worse), and while they may act unreasonable at times it's generally for a reason that makes sense within the story.
The power gained over the course of the story also feels a lot more earned, since the system is significantly more difficult than usual (IMO), and requires the MC to think strategically to progress.

A great gamer fic that avoid a good bit of the more crunchy pitfalls by taking it slow and keeping the characters intriguing within a setting that really works against this usually op stomp power. Honestly simply being a worm based fanfic not starting out in Brockton Bay is an award all in itself for how scarce those are, and even well written ones at that!

A worm gamer fan fiction. I would recommend reading a bit of worm first, just to get an idea of the setting. However you definitely don’t need it.
This is a standout in the genre. A personal favourite of mine.
It improves over time and i think with more confidence the author will become much more popular.
    Please post more :)

First off, I've never read WORM. So everything I'm gonna say is coming in without any background knowledge from that side of the inspiration material. I've read The Gamer web series - and while I can see nods and tributes here and there, they're entirely distinct. 0100010 does a great job paying homage while not falling into the trap of just copying things.
The writing is really well done, the characters are very believable and real feeling. The world, magic systems, and everything else has a very intentional and planned-out feeling - as does the larger strokes of the plot. I very much enjoyed having a Simon-focused perspective in book 1, but I'm equally enjoying the broader point of view enabled by having multiple character POVs.
Overall, I would put this up in my list of favorites and recommendations for friends. Please keep writing as you're able and thank you for the story so far! 🙏

In my opinion, this is by far the best fanfiction based on "Worm" that I have ever read. You can truly feel a deep connection to the original work, and the characters experience significant growth throughout the story—something I didn't particularly notice in the original. I highly recommend that everyone take the time to read this remarkable piece of writing.

This is one of the best Gamer Fics ever put to screen. Simon working his way through a slow burn story, improvising plans in entertaining fashion to fool both heroes and villains and retain his independence, plenty of snarky dialogue and tons of heart as he struggles against the seemingly impossible odds arrayed against him.
None of the traps most other stories like this fall into. No Instant Dungeons taking the protagonist out of their effect on the world. Most fics that do that are immediately less interesting, since it divorces the protagonist from the impact their actions should have on the world and people around them, and thus the story. The Party system doesn't make the protagonist get overshadowed in their own story like most fics that use it do either!
And the need to constantly invent new grinding methods keeps things a bit more interesting than most fics, with the need to work his ass off to make any new ability actually useful, and combined with the risks of adding to the protagonists arsenal, he is constantly needing to invent new ways to improve himself, never spending entire chapters grinding away on the same set of skills.
Also has the best Slaughterhouse Nine arc of any Worm fic to boot, so there is that too. Balancing their slasher movie horror with the unstoppable, unrelenting, inexorable force that is a Gamer's drive to succeed... and to hell with dying trying.
Everything I could want in a Gamer Fic.

    Trivia:
I started reading this fic as a translation in my native language. But I wasn't satisfied: I didn't want to wait for the translators to do their thing, and I wanted moar - so eventually I started reading it on SpaceBattles in English, learning the language as I go. And now I'm here promoting it!
Sorry for my wacky English, by the way =P
    Setting:
Story takes place in Worm-verse (a superhero deconstruction setting), with an addition of one specific character and an homage to "The Gamer" manwha. So It is a real-LitRPG story, meaning that powers exist in the real world, and the challenges people face are pretty much real, too.
    Characters:
Story (two books) features a couple of main characters (The Gamer is one of them), with rare interludes from other POVs. All characters, main or otherwise, are believable: they act human (something that many Gamer fics lack), and they have some motivation that they may or may not share (some fics lack that, too); also, changes in POV result in slight changes in writing style, which is nice.
    Story:
The main plot, as of today, is based mainly on a combination of three motivations that MCs have:
    1. Overcoming the challenges that they face in the somewhat antiutopian Worm-verse, both short-term and long-term
    2. Their strive for betterment of themselves, as in most progression fics, and the world around them
    3. Trying to just live their life - the mundane part of it
So, I would say, it is a combination of progression fantasy, superhero story and mundane, utterly believable struggles all of us have.
That being said, the quality does not go downhill.
    1. The challenges are very real, but they're just that - challenges, not something perpetual and insurmountable (at least those that characters can see) you can't bear to think of. That's a nod to many Worm-fics.
    2. The strive for betterment is visible and canon-compliant (to both sources, Worm and The Gamer), yet it's not all-consuming and it doesn't make characters overpowered at the sn

I have been thoroughly enjoying reading about Simon and Julia's journey. I really like the power sets, dialogue is good interesting and definitely on the realistic side. Actions and motivations seem to be handled well.
Given that this is a fanfic I guess I can't say a lot about the world building, other than it makes me more interested in worm...
    The writing is good too!
Small disclaimer: Simon has a couple (at least one) uncomfortable characteristics that can make him unpalatable to some people.
Stalking, to some extent. It's is complicated and weird. But it makes for an interesting character.
So if you like stories that lack Gary Sue characters here you are I guess.

This story is a slow burn, but it is so good.
Simon really develops as a character. The trauma of what he's endured in the opening of the story and throughout the narrative is excellently portrayed.
He starts off as character who doesn't really understand what his power is, or even who he is. As he goes through foster care and builds relationships with the people around him, he eventually figures these things out.
Then he strikes out on his own and things get so wild. He runs into capes and situation that are so far beyond him, but through clever thinking, the breadth of his power and skilled use thereof, he always manages to escape.
I've read so many Worm fics over the years and a lot of gamer fics too, but this story is easily among the best of both categories. It really leverages his thinker abilities as his true power, it's really incredible what he manages to do with it.
Then there's the relationship with Julia. It might just be crush enforced by the kiss/kill dynamic of a multitrigger, but the prose of the work really makes you feel the desperation and desire that Simon has to get to her
