Description

Garth Daniels is down on his luck, running from his life in a quiet little town in the middle of America when our universe is co-opted into a war between an unstoppable race of reality-hopping monsters that feeds on the flesh of living creatures, and a conglomeration of thousands of realities, nested inside each other like a matroska doll.

We're the new layer.

These monsters, the Kipling, can only be defeated in a reality with very specific physics, otherwise they are unstoppable, and so Earth's universe has been assimilated to give us a fighting chance.

Garth must set aside everything that he knows, and think fast to adapt to the new laws of nature if he wants to survive.

So far, I have enjoyed this story way more than the majority of others on Royal Road. The characters are fun and interesting and the MC is pretty hilarious. When chapter 100 hit, I almost dropped, but I'm so glad I didn't. The story starts progressing faster from then on and the MCs personality really pops in contrast with all the medieval style humans. Great read, if you can get past the major shift of Chapter 100.

I agree with zigman on this story. I liked it a lot. It’s a bit zany, arguably SciFi meets cultivator. There is a time slip unit which discombobulated some readers but would be unremarkable to an SFfan.
Don’t let the negative reviews bias you - I think they just didn’t “get it”. This is a fun read.

This is a fun story that I am enjoying immensely.  I was recommended it with the warning of a story change at chapter 100.  It's what is complained about a lot in the reviews.  It is just a time skip.  A rather large time skip.  I beleive the story was good before the change and better after it.  Before the skip it was getting a bit stale with a plateau of power and lack of story progression.  The change fixes this and makes it more interesting.  Highly recommended.

I don't often review books on Royal Road, but this one was absolutly AMAZING! The quarky charactors and world that has been created is worth a second look by the author.
I admit, I have no idea what the stress is like for writing a book this lenght, I do know this author has an amazing talent and would love to explore this world more.

The premise of this story isn't exactly groundbreaking. The "apocalypse" starts and the MC is thrown into it, having to fight for survival. Very Randidly Ghosthound-esque.
However, in this story you get a much more human MC, who doesn't seem like a mechanical front. He isn't dumb, oblivious, cold, insane, or any of the other stereotypes that this kind of story often brings.
It's a great example of show don't tell. It is a litrpg (and I usually absolutely hate those), but you are rarely told stats and abilities through anything, but the MC using them. If you are the kind of person who like reading through 3 pages of size 12 text worth of data every chapter, this isn't for you.
Note, that at one point the story seemed to be going in the direction that a lot of stories on rrl have: story tapers out, sex becomes focus. This doesn't happen. Luckily.
In short: it is absolutely worth reading. It's fun.

100 first chapters are great, and then ... everything stops making sence, everyone gets killed, MC gets reincarnated 800 years later, and doesnt even bother losing everyone and everything he held dear and was hell bent on protecting, so its basically a new story with a new MC, super infuriating and makes zero sence

Up until then, it was fun. Solid characters, engaging story, interesting take on a System Apocalypse premise. Even a unique take on some otherwise bog-standard races.
Chapter 100 straight up throws away everything that mattered, everything you were looking forward to, everything you were invested in up until then, and replaces it with a world-half-empty where humanity as we understand it lost a long time ago and everyone you cared about - all those fun characters and their interesting takes on races - are all dust in the ground and it all happened more-or-less off camera.
I have never seen a writing move more disrespectful of the time and investment of readers, and more utterly wasteful of an otherwise good setting.

and then it just becomes a completely different story that I am absolutely uninterested in. Garth had a family, a new city amid the bleakness of the apocalypse, and a pretty powerful master. The writer decided all these things were unnecessary though, so 100 chapters in, decided to hit the reset button and give us a grim medeival story instead of post-apocalyptic survival story. I am wholly disatisfied with this betrayal the story threw at me. It's like going to the store to buy mustard, but when you get home to put it on a sandwich, it's ketchup instead. Like wtf man

Was a fun story until chapter 100 when the author decides to just invalidate the entire story up to that point rendering the previous chapters worthless.
