- ArinintimeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is the first review I'm writing, and I'm writing it because I think the fact that the only other written review right now rating the story at a 2/5 stars is unfair . I think the story is really good, yeah it's not perfect but no story is, and I think if you're looking for a story with action and drama that's still pretty light then you should read this.
Story: I liked the story, an editor gets isekai'd into a new world right before her first holiday in 2 years and she's not happy. We get twists (that I won't spoil) and a world with a kinda new take on the system. With the ancients, and how they connect to the system, there's a lot to find out and I'll be following the story for sure.
Character: I really liked the characters. The MC is brash and abrasive, she throws herself into danger and I LOVE that in a character. In a world that's so dangerous you need to be kinda fearless to survive as a newcomer.
Besides the MC I love Shoaib, he's young, naive and I can't wait to see his character growth in the future. The drive he has to be better is also really fun to read about cus I think to some extent we all see a version of ourselves in him.
Style: Writing style is okay, it's written in 3rd person, and sometimes things feel a bit iffy in the way it's written, but don't let that stop you from reading this.
Grammar: Same as style, iffy in some places, but not bad, and definitely not bad enough that you don't read it. For a first draft this is great.
Overall it's a fun read for an afternoon, I enjoyed it. <3 - Anything RandomRoyal Road★★ 2.0I feel bad that this is the first review on this story, but if I'm being honest there was a lot more that I didn't like about this story than what I did.
Firstly, the actual prose and style of the story was fine, though not exceptional. But there were a ton of grammar mistakes and some parts that sounded genuinely non-fluent (Like come on, a "Monster ward off Shield"?). I don't want to harp on the grammar too much because the Writathon pretty much encourages publishing unedited chapters, but a story about a novel editor with editing this bad seems like it should be satire.
Secondly, and this is my main complaint, the main character is incredibly grating. A fully grown woman (based on the prologue, she must be in her late twenties at least) that constantly acts like a rebellious teenager. She seems completely incapable of considering the consequences of her own actions, she has a short temper, she's unfriendly, and she's more stubborn than a mule. Now, granted, I didn't even get ten chapters into this so maybe there's character development at some point, but the story so far doesn't seem to be encouraging that at all with how the world bends over backwards to prevent any serious consequences from actually reaching her. The story even seems to be justifying her terrible actions with the way it throws us her tragic backstory right when she does something stupid, and then a crowd of people pretty much cheer her on even though she just did something completely suicidal.
I have a lot of smaller gripes with what's happened so far, but I haven't really read enough to seriously judge the plot. I actually kinda liked the worldbuilding but I haven't seen much of it thus far. Overall, for a beginner's writing project this is not bad, but as an actual novel I can't recommend it.
