The Once and Last Conqueror (Demon King Litrpg)
Community Rating
Description
Twenty years have passed since the demon king’s defeat. A new world order emerged in the wake of his tyranny, one built by the same summoned Hero who killed him.But the demon king never truly died. Stripped of his power, physical body destroyed, Regis survived in a weakened state where he lay dormant for years.
When a mysterious System appears, it throws the land into chaos. Amidst this turmoil, Regis sees the opportunity he’s been waiting for—a chance to rebuild his strength and finish what he started.
This time, he will not fail.
This story features a demonic MC who uses both raw power and manipulation to achieve his goals. He's pragmatic, but not a murderhobo. Expect long chapters, a slower pace with long-term mysteries and extended foreshadowing, and an expansive world.

- shoco, scholar of the namelessRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0love it ever since i started reading it. the aouther is very talented and you easliy connect with the depth of the mc and the pther characers.
the promise of the story is pretty neet, and the world so far looks good, not amazing but very entertaning.
the biggest draw for me is simply the writing and the main characyers, its lovely to read every chapter - LegerePuellaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don’t usually write reviews—English is my third language, and translating my thoughts accurately is always challenging. However, I believe this story truly deserves praise.
The world-building is solid—the kind where the characters live in the world rather than explain it. The story is still in its early stages, but it is engaging and free of logical inconsistencies. That said, the true highlight lies in the characters.
While demons are often portrayed as distorted caricatures of humans, Regis is someone I can genuinely imagine as an ancient demon king. He is cold-blooded and ruthless, yet not sadistic or cruel without reason. He is charming, charismatic, manipulative, and intelligent—utterly fascinating to read about. It wouldn’t be accurate to say he lacks emotions entirely, but he does not experience them in a human way. It feels as though you are watching a storm through thick leaded glass: it is certainly there, yet it barely touches you.
Even his plan for world domination comes across less as ambition and more as an intriguing way to pass the time. It will be interesting to see how inhabiting a human body influences his thoughts.
Halcyon is compelling from an entirely different perspective. The dynamic between the two of them is undoubtedly one of the most entertaining aspects of the story. I would love to learn more about their shared past and how it shaped them. It is particularly intriguing that, although neither of them seems capable of true empathy, their bond still feels like a genuine friendship.
Overall, this is a story I would buy without hesitation if it were ever published as a novel. I can only hope that you continue it at some point in the future—but if you don’t, that is completely understandable. Writing alongside a full-time job can be exhausting.
Thank you for sharing this story. - SilentKhajiitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Both the pacing and dialogue are good, and the author makes good use of the concept 'show, don't tell' without completely excluding the 'tell' - which is possibly the most common mistake I see in new writers, especially when it comes to litRPG and other technical, detail-oriented world paradigms. Pacing is brisk and doesn't get bogged down in overwhelming numbers, long lists of names that I have no chance of remembering, or dull history lessons. Each new person or place is described in the moment they become relevant.
It can also be tricky to write a villainous/anti-hero lead; specifically, making the MC someone that readers can empathize with (or at least, not be repulsed by) without straying too far from their true nature. Regis is doing well with that so far. I'm eager to see how the story progresses from here. - The CommentatorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story, I believe, truly does justice to the trope. It gives the Demon King a good level of personality, putting his strength in a good position that's low enough that he does have to think to overcome challenges, with potential to grow way stronger in the future. The style and grammar are good, with very few mistakes that don't disrupt immersion, while also being fairly present to read. The third person limited and past tense fit quite well, and overall I think this story is deserving of a five star rating.
- DevourerofwordsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the best interpretation of a Demon King I have read. The MC really embodies both the manipulative nature of a demon and the leadership skills of a king. The MC is an idealist but not naive, is empathetic but will kill anyone in his way, is diabolically manipulative but not needlessly cruel.
This could be the story of the year! - SeliMeliRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is still in its early days, but what I've read so far seems really interesting! This is (obviously) a take at the "Demon King wants to rule the world" trope, done in a well thought out way. It is also an exploration of what an overpowered isekai'ed character could look like from the outside, which I've never seen done before and find intriguing.
Style: The story flows well with action, character moments, descriptions and explanations balancing well with one another. It's also paced well, not dragging on or flying through moments. I'm not a big fan of much description personally, but in this case I understand and appreciate the role it plays from the characters' perspective. That being said, I might skip past a few lines describing the environment on occasion. (The amount of description in the story is not really excessive, this is just a personal preference at the moment.)
Grammar: I haven't noticed any major mistakes in grammar, spelling or sentence structure.
Story: The story is very much keeping my interest so far. The worldbuilding is solid, the questions are many, the action is good. I like the premise and the execution is living up to the hype. I think that's as much as I can say without spoiling anything.
Characters: Perhaps one of the story's most interesting aspects so far. We don't exactly know where our main characters stand on the morality spectrum. We know they're not perfect angels (ha), but where they stand with their plans for the world or compared to their antagonists is not yet exactly clear. This adds a layer of doubt in all their interactions and I'm honestly really enjoying the uncertainty of it all. That being said, I hope there are character arcs scheduled in the future and that's honestly the vibe I've been getting so far. Static characters can be done well, but they're rarely as interesting as those that develop alongside the plot.
All in all, I'm feeling good about this story! I'll be following along to see where it goes from her - dhIV2eWAl5dYX+Av1o6UiheVu31B2LRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5TL;DR It seems like a wonderful story with an expansive world and well-thought-out characters. I'd suggest you give it a read.
Style: The style throughout the first chapters is rather laid-back and very much appreciative of the surrounding world's beauty - quite like the main character, Regis. The atmosphere is properly set, especially regarding the violence and gore, which almost feel casual and not worth mentioning at all - which may be a rather strange perspective for any human MC but I find it works quite well with a Demon King.
Story: The Story has been well fleshed-out up to this point, identifying rather clear stakes and an eventual end goal. While we do not know much of the world yet, the progression feels rather natural, suggesting that most mysteries will be revealed in due time. If any criticism may be levied, it would probably be the fact that Regis resurrected in a highly improbable proximity to Marcus who just so happened to have a clue to get his number one general, Hal, back. Who, incidentally, was held prisoner close by. Of course this fact might foreshadow something but at this time the progression of the story did feel a slight bit forced.
Grammar: There were no glaring mistakes, neither did I notice any errors in spelling. The register has been appropriately used to further immersion, although the apparent intellect and rhetoric prowess of the new village leader does raise some questions regarding tone. It is, however, mostly a matter of preference. Everything considered, the grammar is quite excellent.
Character: The characters appear to be, though still quite vaguely-defined, consistent and believable. The character of Regis in particular is quite interesting and manages to convey the ancient Demon King pretty well. Hal did remind me somewhat of Hob Gadling from Sandman, as both are immortal and in their dynamic beholden to someone of greater power. The side characters are quite well-thought-out and add to the greater atmosphere.
Everything con - maychickenRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I haven’t read much yet but I’m enjoying what I’ve read so far, this book’s got an interesting main character who has murdered a bunch of people but possibly has good reasons. I do wish I knew more about his motivations but well probably learn more later. I like how the system is guiding but not constricting. I’m exited to see what the next chapters will have when more are added.
