Description

Great, terrible, and benevolent dragons rule the lands of Ravi.

They wield enchantments of their own against Charms and Sorcery; they scorch the lands with dragon flame, and dominate all other races when they Denature, revealing their true forms. They are great and majestic, marred with great tough scales that mark their thriving across Tallies and Cycles.

With only an old scarf and a sorry-looking sling bag to his name, plump little Ginger travels from the Wild and into this terrifying land. He's a most unusual little dragon (half-human, for one thing), seeking only to learn, like many other dragonlings, how todragonproperly.

But this world that's completely new to him, friendly and vicious, is tied to him in ways he can't even begin to fathom.

Do you like being teased fascinating world lore and then slowly assembling the answers to all the questions on your mind? That is the experience of reading The Odd Dragon Out. It is fast paced and more than a little addictive.
Please note that the writing style of the first chapter is different from the following chapters, which are written in a more traditional fashion. So don't stop reading too soon if it isn't at first clear what is going on.
    Story
The premise is dragon children in human form that need to grow into their powers and true bodies. And they do this in the setting of a magic dragon school. The main character begins as a nobody raised outside dragon society, so you learn things alongside him. Of course, from having read the blurb, we know he isn't a common scrub.
It's a fascinating story to be honest, and its greatest strength is in the exploration of the world and the lore.
    Grammar
The writing is solid and professional.
    Character
Our main character Ginger is a half-dragon currently in human form. The story picks up right before he enters a school for dragons. He's a bit timid but also determined to succeed. The teachers and other students don't seem particularly kind and the general academic vibe could be accurately described as "sink or swim".

"The Odd Dragon Out" has a unique premise: dragons living alongside humans, with some humans even possessing dragon blood. This immediately piqued my interest. The world-building is imaginative, with the Wild contrasting sharply with the advanced society of Ravi. I especially enjoyed the descriptions of the bustling cityscape and the strange, otherworldly creatures that inhabit it.
Ginger is a relatable protagonist. His anxieties and insecurities were relatable, especially his self-doubt and fear of not fitting in. His journey of self-discovery, from his initial apprehension to his tentative steps into this new world, is engaging to follow.
The description of the "Burning" ceremony was particularly captivating. It felt both mysterious and a little terrifying. The idea of awakening dormant powers and the potential for unexpected outcomes adds a layer of excitement and intrigue to the story.
While I'm enjoying the story so far, I'm curious to learn more about the history of the Dragons and their interactions with humans. The political and social dynamics within dragon society are also intriguing, and I'm eager to see how Ginger navigates these complexities.
"The Odd Dragon Out" has a strong foundation with a unique world, compelling characters, and an intriguing plot. While there are aspects that could be further developed, I am thoroughly enjoying the ride and am eager to see where Ginger's journey takes him.

The wordplay in this book so far is incredibly good, the world building is immersive and so far the story line has been great. The imagination by the way is on another level and I also like the fact that the cliches are kept to a minimum. Though i would like it to be a bit more fast paced. Overall I will recommend this as a very good read.

The plot is very interesting, layered, complex, but with a touch of simplicity to it
I like the Mc's very relatable reactions and actions.. But I would like to say.. IMO that the conversations do feel a little bit too.."Scripted".... if that makes some degree of sense?
The Dialogues are much too straightforward, I think

This book takes many words and chapters to say very little.
I am at chapter 34 and nothing of any note has happened.
A boy with a secret enters a school and he has a very normal experience.
He is picked on because he is different and nothing happens.
Calling this a slow burn would be an understatement. I could literally condense these 34 chapters down into 3 and the experience would be all the better for it.
34 chapters in and there hasn't even been a lot of world building.
Our character is still shy and soft spoken and may go an entire chapters saying only one or two sentences.
