- wolfsmithRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is just such a fun and joyous story. I'm always looking forward to the next chapter and rill read it before other stories updates. Sometimes you just want to see characters and places grow without no top fighting and grim.
Looking forward to seeing what level 10 brings! Also what new equipment and buildings lay on the horizon. - AkikoFoxtailRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great characters and an actual plot that moves forward is rare in crafting stories. Combine that with great worldbuilding and a fun skill system for a great read all around. I can't wait to see where this story goes in the future. I also really like the choice to avoid romance with an in story set out reason.
- DragonouvRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love this story, every time a new chapter drops I have to drop everything to read it.
Isekai as a genre has got 10 million stories that are all basically the same, which makes this story 1 in 10,000,000.
Theo, Tresk and their friends/neighbors provide a wonderful slice of life view into what life looks like in a world with magic, monsters, and people of all shapes, sizes and species.
This story is one of my personal faves because it explores a system of magic that is usually glossed over or only shallowly shown in most others; Alchemy and potions.
Seeing the way reagents interact with each other just tickles that pleasure part of my brain and seeing the magical potions that result is always interesting and rewarding. Most intriguing of all however is the effects these elixirs have on the daily life of the people who use them. This is the part most authors fail to fully explore; Magic is such a gamechanger that every little aspect of life would be affected but in most stories you read, it's just medieval times but some people can punch a mountain in half or something!
Thats what sets Newt and Demon apart from the other 99,999,999. You get to see magic in a way most people neglect to even imagine
anyway can't recommend it enough 👍🏼 - F.L. RileyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story first reminded me of Maari's Queen of the Mud. I have to admit mostly because of his character Tresk. I'm not sure exactly how she would be classified, but a salamander/lizard comes close.
Theo the main Character is reborn into a life where he can grow and relax. He becomes an alchemist, and for once the synopsis the author posted saying this story would be heavily crafting related has proven true.
Too often I find a good crafting story only to have the MC begin adventuring and the crafting become almost forgotten. This hasn't happened here, and with Tresk and Theo concentrating on different tasks, maybe the crafting won't be forgotten.
Grammar is top notch. There might be an error or two, but if they are they aren't significant enough for me to notice.
I've mentioned how well the author is doing in creating an interesting story, the only issue I have is that he doesn't post often enough. But that is a great problem to have. I'm pretty sure I'd have the same issue if he updated hourly.
The minutia from crafting, the daily grind and details this slice of life narrative deal with might not resonate with those readers who are more interested in fighting and action, but I find myself enjoying this more and more with each chapter released. - PunpopeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Reborn as an alchemist in the humble town of Broken Tusk, Theo embraces his newfound purpose with determination. Armed with legendary alchemical skills, he endeavors to uplift the swamp-town from obscurity to prosperity. As he navigates challenges and forges alliances, Theo's quest for redemption and renewal unfolds against the backdrop of a dying world. This captivating tale promises an enchanting blend of hope, resilience, and the alchemical magic of second chances
- RPGNoviceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Awesome read. Thanks for the story. I follow a lot of stories and this is one of the best ones I have found in a long time. Now I'm going to have to check the authors other works. Favorite character has to be Tresk. I urge other readers to give this story a try.
- Aaron Sofaer (aka Pastafarian)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Newt and Demon is one of those stories that has A Thing It's Doing, and the Thing that it is Doing is an overpowered crafter protagonist making things better and more awesome. He makes friends quickly and deeply, he gets to eat good food and be super overpowered at his craft, he has powerful allies and magical cleaning potions.
I love it. Not all stories have to be about desperate striving in harsh conditions. It's okay for stories to just be chill and excellent and cozy. This one is, and I love it. - Swedish HuskyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5In a genere of fiction filled with violence, edginess, and power, this is a refreshing fantasy slice of life take. I do enjoy the violent stories as well, but this is a unique find. The story and characters are wonderfully written so far - each charactter expressive and unique.
The only critisim/feddback I have is for the MC. For previously being an assassin/black ops, he is the opposite of what I would expect. He does not command much of a presence or have many traits you'd think he would be predisposed to, if not acquired due to his line of work. It is not necessarily a bad thing per say, but it is noticable at times. Such as paling in fear from the adventurers.
This is more of a nit-pick than a major complaint, however. Just something I have noticed through the chapters so far. If he was a hardcore assassin and brooding, I doubt the concept would work as well as it does right now. Maybe he awlays wanted to be a big ol nerd, but due to circumstances found himself in his previous occupation ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I am invested in the interesting magic (or at least unique alchemy) system that is being explored here. I almost feel I am experiencing it vicariously through Theo/Belgar/Horny McHornyface as he makes his discoveries. The author does a great job at painting the scenes and expertly touches the line of fantasy and reality with the dialogue.
Great job! Keep up your work, wordsmith! - ScreamingtoasterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I wasn't sure exactly what I expected but this is better than whatever I expected. For once the mc isnt tossed into an absolute mess of ridiculous things happening to him other than what caused him to be transported to the new world. Its got a fairly unique system that isn't just a tidal wave of odd skills randomly put together as plot armor. Its just an interesting slice of life story that has some levels tossed in. Really enjoying the world building too. Only complaint I have is not enough story yet! Looking forward to more.
- SelachiRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Great pace, great atmosphere. It's a really calming slice of life isekai when you want a break from the typical murder hobo. As someone who loves to level crafting jobs in games more than the overall level I appreciate it. I especially like the friendship of the protagonists without any romance and the town building elements 💯👍
The grammar is fine without a lot of typos, nice editing and a good structure that supports a smooth read except some inconsistencys regarding levels or numbers in general.
