Description

A terrible ambush in deep space leaves the Republic Space Vessel Lowelana in dire straights. Knowing that they cannot hope to defeat their foes, Ship-Head Uleena, a member of the reptilian species Urakari, orders a blind jump. The ship and her crew barely manage to escape.

The jump takes them far from Republic space, in a direction that has yet to be explored. With near-critical damage to their ship and severe casualties there doesn't seem to be any hope of rescue. Then they receive an answer to their distress call.

This is where our story begins.

Okay, what a GREAT sci-fi story! It's fast paced. The story jumps right into the action! Meeting the "New Species" happens in chapter 1 and there's no delay in communication due to AI. While it moves at amazing speed it doesn't detract from the story because the author does an amazing job with the characters.
This is a multiple Point Of View story and all of the characters have their own personality quirks, even the Artificial Intelligences! At one point in the story the POV switched from an overpowered AI directly into a Marine Sargent, which served to highlight the drastic differences in characters. (Hence my rating)
As for the style and story I gave those top scores as well, not only for the pace but also for the high quality. The VIs (enemies) are a bit one dimensional, but nothing else is. Humanity is exposed in all of it's glory (and gore). All of the other races are multi-faceted as well. Granted, I am a sucker for overpowered humanity in space facing an enemy programmed to extinct other sentients, but that just means that this was perfect for me.
I noticed MAYBE one grammatical error in 42 chapters, so I think that qualifies for my grammar rating as well. Now, I am not an English professor, but as someone who only really speaks English and has been doing such for roughly 40 years, I should have SOME expertise in the matter.
In short, I plan on buying this book and then reviewing it on Amazon as well even though I just read it for free here. I would have done so already if I wasn't on my phone and if Amazon didn't have [Redacted] rules and restrictions.

Don't start to read the first chapter late night or you will end up not sleeping that night.
I started to read chapter one just to get an idea what's all about, I get drawn immediately in and few days layer I was at chapter42!
    What a roller-coaster!
A lot of actions, the multiple point of view story can lead to some hilarious moment how they see each others.
I strongly recommend this book, it's a well written space opera

Great HFY story. Characters are great, pacing is good. Bad guys are a bit vanilla but I have read this, the sequel and working on the third one now. Definitely worth the read.
words words words words words so I can click submit and not get a "You need to be less autistic and direct with your comments." error when clicking the button.

I've always loved Sci Fi. So I didn't hesitate to jump in when I found this gem. Originally from HFY on reddit, this is refreshing take on a far future humanity seen from multiple perspectives. The ship battles are beautifully portrayed. Even shed a manly tear for Captain Neil of USSS Armstrong.

Hi. There were some suprises, like huge number of ships on all sides.
I wonder how 5 million ships would have been commanded without VI or limited AI. Or at least networked computers.
Choice that there are no drones controled by simple AI is curious, since it happens right now. Maybe in 2021-2022, when story was thought of, that trend was not so evident.
Also, idea that small numbers of gont crew could somehow take over entire huge ships with Marine complements and internal defence grids is little far fetched.
