This is a small scale army builder with a couple of lost tec and religious twists. With a bit of roman flair.
Once you get past the initial training stage the writing gets quite a bit better. The narrative line becomes quite clear.
Is it worth the read..... If you like a army builder and fights against the odds yes it's with it's worth your time.
The reason for the lost point are a couple of plot holes.
Why is there little metal armor around. While rust does create care issues peasents in most of Europe we're able to keep armor for generations. These old bits helped them survive being conscripted into armies.
+ It's already been stated in story that blacksmiths are around so metal can be worked. Lamalar or scale armor should be possible. Maybe not seen often but still around.

A bit more work here could help the story.
A second current drawback is the way the noble army and the legion interact.
While I understand what you are going for here..... The army set up for the nobles in arms is similar to citizens in the Greek states where the rich had the money to take up arms.
The problem is there should be some parts of this faction that have good disciplined unites. Old family traditions die hard of course and even from the empire that the legion belonged to there should be factions among the nobles that work the frontier properly. In some places I have heard them be called frontier nobles or some other title..
A third aspect is if we are taking the Roman legions as a reference point.... While the current messages a horse is great. Your missing auxiliary units all over the place. Understandable at the moment though.
