I'd say this is one of the better Isekai stories I've read on this site so far and that's mostly because of the characters and how they interact with the world around them. I think when going into this story, the most compelling part of it all is going to be the dynamic between Henry and his twisted ally, Elara. What makes their relationship so fun to read are their different views on the world, humanity, and just basic heroism in general.
Henry is someone who values the lives of people because he's someone understands the fragility and preciousness of life. And of course he does. The guy had cancer and was most likely in constant pain as he watched his loved ones grieve over his impending doom. The beginning has me a little iffy on him, mostly because he seems to be a very reactionary protagonist, but he definitely grows to be more active with each chapter. I've noticed that most MCs on this site tend to gain a powerful ability and become crazy battle freaks because they were just losers in their old life. Henry actually has a valid reason to be as fascinated with his power because he didn't have a chance to do most things in his old life. He had cancer.
But then you have someone like Elara who, despite being a fairy and Henry's friend, doesn't really care about the lives of humans at all. I love the idea that a fairy, a species that would normally mesh well with Henry's heroism, is actually a murderous and mischievous person who can look upon a field of corpses and laugh. You can clearly tell the author worked hard on her characterization as each description of her presence can either give you chills or relief depending on the context. Her appearance is a very good contrast to her personality too as she's constantly described to have a bright design like the sun, however she has a tendency to introduce Henry to the darkness of life, and I think that that kind of relationship can work well.
As for the story, I thought it was a fun read by the end, and leaves room f

One moment, Henry was in a bed, staring down the barrel of a terminal cancer diagnosis. The next, he found himself deep in a world of strange, red fog that wants very much to suck every drop of happiness from his bones. His strongest allies: A fairy who's best friends with her insanity, and a magic wand that has a strange connection to this cursed mist. We observers look on, impassively, to see what he can grow with such tools.
Picked this up off a recommendation; it's a bit too dark for general consumption, but for someone who really likes dark fantasy with a deep story (and a bit of insanity.) Stuff like Alice in Wonderland, Bloodborne, and (to some degree) post-apocalyptic stories.
Chapters with blood and gore have been well-labelled so far.

    First.
I'm a fan of where the story is going so far. There's not much constructive criticism to give that people haven't already been giving in the comments.
Some minor spelling and grammarical errors are easily fixed, and haven't stopped me from having a good time.
No notes other than those, five stars! I especially love Elara and the Final Fantasy references.

If you are looking for an isekai with a taste towards the dark and horrific, this one might just be up your alley.
The fiction follows Henry Collins, a terminal cancer patient who now finds himself in a dark fantasy world where strange mists mutate anything it touches into monstrous and disturbing forms.
While fleeing from the mists, Henry meets Elara, a crazed fairy who might just be Henry's only hope of surviving this world.
The prose is well-written, with a excellent sense of pacing which keeps the story moving while still employing the maximum amount of dread necessary.
The characters are also engaging. Henry makes for a good POV, with his illness and hints of past darkness making him a relatable hero. However, it's Elara who steals the show with her maddening tangents and constant commentary.
Early into the story, the bulk of the narrative is spent exploring the world more than some over-reaching narrative, but I'm sure that will change over time. For now, it's definitely one of the more creepy isekai I've read in a great way, but it does so in such a way that want to keep reading...and keep seeing what new, fresh horrors await our heroes.
Definitely check it out when you are in the mood for something spooky to read!
