The Misplaced Hero

Update as of September 23rd, 2024:
I'm actively seeking producers for the Book 1 audiobook over on ACX. Anyone who'd like to audition is welcome.
Book 1 is live both on kindle and as a hardcover. The latter is available wherever books are sold, at least in the U.S. It's also available through Amazon everywhere.
That being said, I have no plan, at this time, to take it down from RR. It will remain on Royal Road for the foreseeable future. Still, if you'd like to support the author, purchasing the kindle version would be a good way to do it.
Jackson Thomas Grenell is a veteran of an ugly war, trying to forget the things he experienced. He plays video games, practices HEMA, and escapes into the other worlds of isekai anime. Only the dubs, of course. Hewatchesanime andreadsbooks.
Imagine his surprise when he's run down in his own living room while playing his favorite computer RPG and awakens in another world. One of fantasy monsters, magic, and mighty heroes.
Imagine, too, the surprise of those he encounters there. See, the previous hero has already defeated the demon lord and become king. So why then, is Jack here?

- AndramusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This has quickly found its place among my favourites, Great characters, and simply an enjoyable read. When Book 2 introduced a new viewpoint character i was not a fan at first, i wass wrong, it made the story better.
The story is funnyand engaging, and if i had to name one thing i am not to fond of, it would be the cover, but tastes differ, and its not bad, just not my preferred style.
Give it a try, I can´t imagine you´ll be disappointed. - SharkwalkerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I never thought my favorite character in a book would be an inanimate object. To avoid spoilers I'll leave my commentary on my favorite character at that. The characters drive the story in this one.
Later in, the author begins to delve into the RPG elements and how those work. The battles are also well thought out and follow video game mechanics well enough that I could see this as a video game some day. - Wong40kRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Reviewed at Chapter 14
Disclaimer: I did a cover art for the story, was peeking around just to see what was up with the characters I visualised and found a decent tale.
It started slow start and has a weightiness about it, you won't find the standard blinding fast Hollywoodish montages here. Like life, things take time to happen around here.
Overall, I found the real-life like tediousness of it with some reality resemblance kind of refreshing and I admire most of the interactions and dialogues between the main characters, one can see a level of care was taken for crafting these interactivity.
Despite being still early in the story, I can see its potential greatness if done right going ahead.
