It really is just about the two titular characters. One is an instigator, the other follows along playing more of the straight man. I think they work well together, really just partners in crime as it were.
What I really want to stress about this story is how 'alive' the other characters are. I think a lot of authors fall into a well worn groove of only include character interactions as they relate to the protagonist of the story. Generally a good idea to keep the story tight, But these other people really have lives beyond the protagonists. I see it in how those side characters interact between each other.
It's a short read, some chapters/parts could really have been condensed into one, but overall it's competent writing. - SiliconWolfRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Grammar, spelling, and style are good.
But I've read six chapters and haven't seen any worldbuilding or plot.
And the characters bug me. The boy agrees to commit a crime too fast. The guard gives up without any real resistance or delaying tactics. Oh, and the main characters don't wear disguises. And then the boy decides not to go to work the next day. Sure, his job sounds horrible, but it also sounds like something where he can be fired and easily replaced.
I hope the story gets better. But between the six chapters I don't like and the blurb that's (at the time I'm writing this) only two sentences... I'm going to drop.
