The Mechanical Epoch

Ether, a mysterious, near-magical phenomena, a spontaneous stain that had spread through galactic spacetime for the past five hundred years. It had given birth to a burgeoning humanity, allowing for the creation of warp gates and FTL engines, sending humans to colonize the far reaches of the galaxy. It was the foundation of the strength of ether mages, ether meisters, and warlocks who would harness its powers to create miracle after miracle.

And yet, five hundred years after its appearance, it would be cause for humanity's bitter end. An unknown 'disease' had spread over its foundations, driving sentient beings to madness, mutating the ether-gifted wielders of magics into swollen monstrosities of flesh, polluting the very space around them with more disease, and corrupting the innocents into feral, ghoulish, cannibalistic aberrations.

But none of this was the immediate concern of Jun, a combat droid in the galactic rim, awakening to sentience among the raging flames of the battlefield.
