Description
Immortality is a myth... isn't it?
The year is 512, and the Kingdom of Rasin is embroiled in a bitter civil war. James Wilde, closest friend of would-be King Charles, has a secret mission. His task: infiltrate the enemy camp and discover whether the mysterious and powerful magician who has turned the tide of battle is really a legendary five-hundred-year-old Mage.
Falling in love with her is definitely not part of the plan.

- ParadoxcloudRoyal Road★★ 2.0The story follows the friend of a king embridled in a civil war. To get his party to gain the upperhand James, the protagonist, is sent out to spy on the new addition to the opposing camp’s military might. That being a capital ”M” Mage that appears to be many hundreds of years old.
Right from the get-go there are two problems that I have with the writing style. The first being that scenes are too simplistic. The author will tell you were you are, what is happening, and what James thinks about it, but it’s far too short to make any particular series of events stand out in the mind. This is also the reason why the pacing is so fast, it might not be a problem for everyone, but the MC being at the beck and call of his kingly friend in one chapter to being a bodyguard of the person he's intent on investigating five chapters later does leave a lot of intermediary events to be desired.
That aside there are other problems. Magic is a thing in this story, it has not been explained yet in the slightest but honestly the description of spells and wards makes it clear enough what their purpose is. Still, it's a good example of how worldbuilding has fallen short. On the other hand, and maybe more importantly, by chapter 7 I still have no idea what this story is about.
Is this about James' grand adventure to avoid being caught, is it a romantic story between two supposed enemies, is it about getting his friend to be recognised as the one and only king within the land. At the moment there isn't enough story for me to know but I hope that this is because of the current shortage of chapters rather than a lacking plot line.
Grammar seemed fine, but I'm not one that can judge with any degree of confidence so take that with a grain of salt.
