Nobody expects anything from goblins. Gigi is a beautiful goblin woman who yearns to be a champion fighter. Instead, she lives a life of tedium and repression at her family's bakery. She knows her dreams must be outside the chains of family and village. However, since her father died, nobody believes in her, including herself.

Her counterpart is Drake, a human warlock—a man marked by death. As a boy, the kingdom plucked him from an orphanage to make a pact with a dark god.  With this covenant, he commands the shadows to life, even making darkness physical. He has used this ability to defend his kingdom, as he was told, sending thousands of men to their deaths. This is the fate of a Sword of Paxia.

He has been chained to the fate of being a living magical weapon—a destiny he rejects. He yearns for a family and freedom from hurting others. To this end, he fakes his death to be free.

However, he needs to be saved from a watery grave by our slightly inebriated heroine, Gigi. Unsure of what to do with the unconscious man, she brings him home. Over time, she learns from him that she might have what it takes to be the person she dreams of being. A future for him in her life begins to form.

They face domestic and fantastic challenges, such as babysitting lamias, an underground fight club for mythical creatures, teaching orphans to gamble, marauding trolls ruining festivals, and conniving knights conspiring to enslave Drake once more.

Can Gigi admit that she may have fallen in love and conquer the fear that if she had, her adventure would be over? Will Drake admit the truth to Gigi that his powers shorten his lifespan with every spell? Find out how they overcome together and fight to forge a life in a world hell-bent on keeping them apart.

I've seen a lot of people worry about a story after hitting 40 chapters. I guess a lot of them fall apart after that mark. FEAR NOT; this was not a story that started with no ending in mind.  I havefourbooks plotted out for this series. When the fourth book's final page is turned, that's it. The story will have been told. We are a looooong way away from that, but I wanted you to know that I'm committed to this story with all my heart. This is a love story, and itneedsan ending. This story will get one, and I hope, more than anything, you are all along for what I think will be an amazing journey!

This story is so sweet. I'm so happy to have come across this book.  Also, I love Gigi ❤️.  10/10 would be besties with her. I love a strong (green) female protagonist. Let's get that merch going. I can't wait to read more and see where the story goes.

I am really enjoying this new fiction. Chill vibes galore with likeable characters and heartwarming moments. Goblin romance happens to also be a theme in one of my favourite stories, but this is the first time I've seen it elsewhere. Still have a few chapters to read, but convinced enough to give a review now.  There is a pretty large world at play here, with drakes, goblins, and harpies among the races represented. My only issue is that I sometimes find myself having to re-read a sentence a couple of times to make sure I got the correct meaning. Luckily it happens rarely enough that I'm only going to dock half a star from my rating. Also, if you are afraid of the pace being too slow or it lacking in action, there is more combat and high stakes plot points than the blurb and cover would indicate. This isn't quite making my top 10 yet, but give it a year or two, if the quality doesn't drop, it might make the cut after all. The style is pretty good and the characters all feel like unique individuals, and that shows in the way they speak. Keep up with the good work 💚

Great premise and solid writing. I laughed a couple of times! The setup was great and I loved the main villain; good job with making him a formidable bastard. Of course Gigi is a great character also, so is the main love interest… he seems clueless at the start but no doubt he’ll be man enough for our little lady when she needs it. Looking forward to more!

There's nothing I love more in a story than a good romance, and this story already delivered it to me, even this early one! The story between two characters from completely different backgrounds, introduced to us as being opposites, never fails to invite me to continue reading. This story certainly nails this completely. The struggles Gigi, a goblin who's a free spirit at heart who wants to go out to explore the wide world, is stuck taking care of her family bakery while pitied by everyone in her surroundings for not being able to settle down. You feel for her, as the future that is expected of her seems completely different from what she desires. And then there is the male lead and love interest, Drake, who has spent his entire life treated as nothing more than a sword serving his kingdom while not even being respected as a human, as he's being denied basic rights like falling in love. Both characters yearn to escape the circumstances placed on them, and the similarities emerge as we witness the sparks flying between them early on. Suffice it to say, both of them and their relationship are absolutely adorable! You can't help but root for them to break through their respective barriers through their budding relationship. If you are looking for romance to obsess over, I can thoroughly recommend this story!

You nailed it! I love where the story goes. Enough plot for a long term story and lots of slice of life to make some depth to the characters.  Some good and not forced romance.
Lots of potential in prequel and sequels.
You should take some time to read it leasurely.

I saw this story on Rising Stars and it looked interesting. Glad I picked it up, as it is a pretty nice change of pace for many of the stories I read on Royal Road. The author, within the span of the first few paragraphs, manages to set a very clear tone and paint the picture well.
Style: The style is very smooth and easy to read. Each chapter flows effortlessly as you go through them. I've mentioned on other reviews I've done that this is a great indicator that I will enjoy a particular author's style. Going through the chapters and being surprised when they end. Good immersion and storytelling!
Story: The story follows a goblin girl named Gigi, who pines away at her seemingly mundane life as a baker in Poppy village. I wont go into spoilers too much, as it's worth the read; she find a wounded human sorcerer whom she nurses back to health. This is a love story, obviously, the author talks about it often throughout the book. And a love story that I am enjoying so far. As of now, it is lighthearted and sincere. Focusing on the minute details of the character's interactions and feelings on any given scene. Rather than cheeky plot twists or jump-scares. The story lives up to the title It is a "Cozy" action fantasy.
Characters: So far there are only a few characters of note. Gigi and Drake being the most prominent are believeable and enjoyable to read about. Gigi is not your run of the mill Gobo either. She wants to join armies that are passing by, but reveals she doesn't want to hurt anyone, or animals. She's naïve, but this also a bit endearing. Drake is also not who you would expect. He isn't the towering form of confidence and heroism. He's almost childlike, due to his horrific upbringing and service as an imperial sword. My favorite character so far is Griselda!
Grammar: I'm not an editor! The grammar was fine!
Overall, I am enjoying this story very much, and would recommend it to anyone who just wants to read something wholesome and nice. Check it out!

Such a fun story! The MC is a darling wanting to leave her bakery life behind (Why? I don't know, I would live amongst the bread) and pick up a sword. The writing is just fantastic, and the setting is believable. This is a very original and unique story with so much to give the reader. Instant follow.

When an author threads a story together that manages to be sweet, romantic and cosy, its a good time to be a reader.
When an author paints the darkness that lives hidden in the hearts of the world, unveiling the grim reality of conflict and war, its also a good time to be a reader.
    This story does both.
Tomboy supremacy and the gap moe associated with it is such a joy in this tale and I am thoroughly enjoying it.
There's depth to the characters, complexity in the world building, and a charm I really wasn't expecting to find.
If you want a story that brings elements from both ends of the spectrum, from the dark and gritty to the light and fluffy, this one has it.
There can be no shadow without a light to cast it.

I’m only a couple chapters in and Remy has already shown himself a skillfully story crafter. The bright, nuanced characters bring life to a world of magic and mystery and gathering shadows. Remy manages to use and subvert traditional fantasy and anime tropes to give all of us who enjoy a bit of fantasy and romance something we can dig our teeth into. A brilliant start.

Cozy and humorus, with a sharp edge in the background, makes you root for them to get together before circumstances catch up to them. As I write this review the story is still being sritten, so there is much yet to happen, and I can't wait to read it! Keep up the good work!
