- Logan HailRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story so far has me hooked, so our mc wakes up in a dungeon then meets this grumpy skeleton called pell. I like the interactions between the characters that is mostly what has me hooked there can be improvement at certain places in the story, but so far so good just finished book 1 today and i cant help feel impatient waiting for book 2s release
- PagetHereRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoy the writing style. Didn't at first but after a few chapters I was hooked. I love the mc and some of the side characters too. The story is slow but in a good way. Building, giving details and fleshing out the world so it's the kind of pace I enjoy. I like that she's growing into her abilities and her unique charm. Looking forward to more!
- Goblin_SlayerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story remind me of Reincarnate as a sword, of course all litrpg like has what I like, however, is how the gods, the system, and the world blend together similarly yet in opposition to Fran and master world, friendship progression and power escalate a bit too fast to my taste is fine makes sense is not as Dark or mature as I initially think it was and very fun read yes-yes
- TheUsualPaddyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Amazing book, I'm devastated this has gone on a hiatus of indeterminate length. This got me back into reading this year. Highly recommend.
The characters are fun and unique and it's an interesting take on "The System" genre of recent fantasy.
High key devestated we've been left on such a cliff hanger especially now the world building and plot has reached the point it has. - VeltasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love “found family” premises. Pell and Enya are great. I also enjoy the progression fantasy style here. There’s always a balance to strike to keep abilities interesting, and Enya’s skill set allows for entertaining conflicts and progression potential. The overarching plot is coming into view and I am excited to learn a bit more about these noble families. I’m also dying to see how Enya fits into the social landscape of Talos and its academy. The idea of “secret important VIP” mixing in with the local folks is one that comes up a lot in these fantasies but it always has my attention, it just works. I’m also really interested to see Enya grow. She may start as essentially an amnesiac feral child, but what will she become? I’m here for that journey.
- A. StargazerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Okay, to start with, this story, once you get into it, is low key adorable. The idea of a little girl wielding vast necromantic powers and having a grumpy skeletal side-kick is on-point and if that's your thing you should totally read this story.
My primary criticism of this story is the slow start. While the story of a little girl appearing in the middle of a dungeon without explanation sounds interesting, the actual execution left me a little bored. Still, I powered through it and was glad that I did. Once the girl learns to talk, which I personally think could be abbreviated to get to the meat of the story, the story does pick up and becomes interesting.
Overall I'm giving it a 4.5 because I think that it has potential to be good. The half-point is due to the aforementioned slow start, which is about the only thing that's wrong with the story. Really, once the girl starts to talk and interact with her environment it's kinda cute and funny and I see the potential.
Style wise I'm giving it 4 stars due to the aforementioned issues. It drags on longer than it has to about things that can be implied and inferred. Basically, if I were editing this story, I'd cut the first three chapters down into one smaller chapter and get to the meat.
Story is deducted one star for the same reason.
Grammatically it's well written on a technical level. Sentence structure, flow, and word choice is all on point. Nothing in my casual read through is detracted from the reading experience in terms of the author's basic English skills.
Character wise, I'm giving it a 4.5 because while the skeletal merchant is a very well done character, it's so far the only character, including the MC, which gets fleshed out. - Kane DrakeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The author is really good at setting the scene and readily offers detailed, vivid descriptions. It’s very easy to imagine the dungeon and the environment, as well as the creatures within it. The characters are believable, and enjoyable as well.
Pell, a grumpy skeleton desperate to change his circumstances, is a fun character to follow. His thoughts and musings offer a lot of insight into the world, and through him, the author communicates a lot of intricate world-building details. Enya, though unintelligent at first, grows into her own very quickly. Writing younger characters is definitely an area some authors struggle with, but that’s not the case here. Enya comes across as believable, cute, and funny in this story. I’m excited to see how she’ll continue to grow in future chapters, as she is a character with a lot of potential. Five stars there.
The author had a solid grip on grammar, and I didn’t notice anything that pulled me out of the story. I noticed they also are quick to address mistakes pointed out in the comments, which is a great thing on this site. Five stars there.
The story itself has a lot of potential, however, the early chapters, while written well, don’t move the plot forward. The first three chapters in particular could probably be condensed to a single chapter, or possibly two at least. It did give the author time to further develop Pell, however; I kept wanting something more to happen. For that reason, I deducted a few points. I read up through chapter 5, and the author was introducing some exciting things, so I believe the story will only go upwards from here.
Overall, Dead Coin Diaries is a fun read, with lots of potential. I think it’s worth checking out! - I'm_MeiRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0After reading until the book 2 epilogue I can say that I loved the story. The progress is very slow (from amount of chapters, not in-story time) but it feels earned, there are no big handouts in regards to her own power. The premise of the class is exciting, even though we have yet to even really use it, not counting the way it was unlocked. The Mc is well written and absolutely adorable. Her interactions with the other characters feels natural and consistent. The story itself does suffer from some inconsistencies like spells missing from the stat sheet, confusion between spells and skills, and missing characters that are introduced but never followed up on. But overall I really enjoyed reading it, and hope that book 3 will keep up the quality (and slightly increase the pace! ^^)
- Fost_NZRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I’d rate it higher but the endless chapters of drama at the point I am up to is tiring - the fights are stretched over multiple chapters against a antagonist that is too strong and plot armour continues to be invoked. It was a good start but not enjoying the current plot arc. Hope that this arc resolves itself soon and the story returns to the very enjoyable interaction between the MC and the supporting Characters.
- roflkong3Royal Road★ 1.0Hier die korrigierte Version ohne Hinweise auf Wiedergeburt:
Style (2.5/5):
The story clearly shows that the author has put effort into planning and worldbuilding. The writing flows well on a sentence level and often reads smoothly. However, the pacing suffers heavily due to the overly elaborate style. Scenes that could be summarized in a few paragraphs stretch over entire chapters. Dungeon battles, system explanations, and power gains often become tedious because they are broken down into excruciating detail. What begins as thoroughness turns into unnecessary repetition. The overall effect is that the narrative feels inflated, as if the author is deliberately stretching the story rather than progressing it.
Grammar (5/5):
As a non-native speaker, I found the grammar and sentence structure very approachable. There are no glaring mistakes, and everything reads clearly. Dialogue is fine, narration is consistent, and there is no confusion due to wording. This part of the book is excellent and makes it easy to continue reading — if you have the patience for the rest.
Story (2/5):
The core idea is promising: A young child with latent necromantic abilities begins in a mysterious dungeon and gradually builds power in a carefully structured magic system. The world has depth and the magic mechanics are well thought-out. However, the story progresses far too slowly. Many chapters contribute almost nothing to the larger plot, with the narrative spinning its wheels on minor events or detailed crafting and planning sessions. Stakes are introduced very late, and the balance between action, exploration, and magic is heavily skewed toward preparation and internal monologue. The structure often prioritizes description over drama, planning over payoff.
Character (2/5):
The main character receives a lot of narrative attention, but their development feels overly dramatic at times. They often act more mature or insightful than their age suggests, without convincing emotional grounding.
