The Light Bringer

Description
Would you leave behind everything you knew to live the life of another version of yourself? A version from a land where status sceens, levels, dwarfs, elves, beastkin and monsters were real? A world where limits were not set in stone and danger or adventure could be around every corner?
If you stopped and thought about it, I think you would conclude it was a bad idea. But for a guy like William Taylor who actually got to make this theoretical choice, he chose yes.
He's learning to regret that very quickly. But maybe one day he won't, if he lives long enough

Just some details about what this story will be like. This is more a character story than a story about leveling up and becoming OP. That may happen in time but don't expect it any time too soon. The MC has no powers that he brings into the world. He just has to do the best he can with his wits, knowledge and will to succeed.
Also it's only fair to warn people this series has a bit of a slow start.
1 chapter a week with occasional bonus chapters.

- CestarianRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the only time I've given a story 5/5 rating as I am generally a harsh critic, I always find something to nitpick over. But miraculously I failed to find anything to complain about here. At least for the first 19 chapters (which involves the entire first arc of the story and then some).
Like many others it's a story about a guy that's whisked away to a fantasy world of swords and magic, only this time the plot twist is that no gods were involved in the process, besides language skills and his knowledge from earth the guy gets no advantages at all (he gets plenty of disadvantages though), and to make matters worse for him it's a dark fantasy too. The only thing that's really set him apart from others in this world as far as I've seen is that he learns things at a slightly accelerated pace, but honestly I think it can be chalked up to personality, while others are training to prepare themselves for possible future life or death combat for example, he is training for imminent life or death combat, he puts in 120% of the effort and applies it with a no nonsense attitude, in other words, it's nothing really outlandish, he's more like a somewhat talented regular person in this new world. No OP protagonist, at least not so far, there are hints that he might become strong later on, but it will be through blood sweat and a lot of tears, he doesn't get anything handed to him. He doesn't even get to be the strongest person on his small team, much less in the wider world.
The pacing is just right, so far every chapter has moved the plot forward, there are parts where the plot moves slower, there are parts where the plot rushes forward, but at the end of the day, the plot never stops moving and that's something a lot of amateur stories have problems with.
The style is just basic first person, so far there has been only 1 pov change, and as someone who personally hates pov changes with a burning passion, I was ok with it. (Because it was done right for once, and got an imp - ChaosPenguinRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The author makes up for what they lack in grammar (and consequently, style) by focusing on the story itself.
The 16-year-old MC's thoughts are realistic yet remarkable. William is portrayed as wise and scheming, but in reality is a big softy.
The world-building is creative, simple and powerful.
Overall, and without being hypercritical, you won't find major flaws in The Light Bringer. The author brings good ideas to the table, and I'm enjoying reading his work.
UPDATE: Style improves in later chapters. +0.5 STYLE. - uictoriam4Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5It is an enjoyable transported to another world with system book with a somewhat grim environment. But the fallacy here is the lack of details about the world. Our MC is not in the least curious about world, how the kingdom works, the magic system, etc. Also We don't actually have any descriptionof the world except maybe oneliner that it is a medieval fantasy world
- Saruul888Royal Road★★★★ 3.5My main criticism comes from the fact that the Author just forces things too much. He wants some things to happen and just makes it happen. This makes some scenes too rushed or outright unlogical.
Everything else is acceptable with some character contradiction.
