- AvidReader2425Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far, I would say, I definitely enjoy this story, and I think it offers a unique path for the main character with his legendary class. The start of the story with certainly attention, grabbing, having a certain poetic undertone, as well as giving a good perspective on the main character. The fact that he was willing to confront guards on their share, childishness shows a certain set of core values to the main character, as well as a certain amount of recklessness as well.
after this confrontation, the story undergoes, a metamorphosis of tone, to be sure, to have a bit more of a darker undertone in the characters new situation. He hast to find his way in this new world, is momentarily on a time limit, as well as on a set path of new discovery for his legendary class. His class in question is also really interesting and offers many creative avenues and watch his new capabilities could be used.
I would say that, as long as the story and character is given time to breathe at times, it should certainly be an entertaining read. I would definitely say that there is a vested interest in how the character will eventually evolve, and what abilities he may gain due to his unique class. I would definitely give this story, my support and recommendation that you at least give it a try the first few chapters to see if it’s your cup of tea. - InyssaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Where most other Litrpgs deal with protagonists with incredibly flashy and OP abilities, The Legendary Mythomancer turns it on its head nicely with a class revolving around storytelling, which so far has been implemented very creatively. That's what I love in power systems, and this story hasn't disappointed in that so far.
The plot and character interactions are what's at the forefront. The idea of multiple worlds, of being scorned and discarded, then 'saved' by gods no better than any man is a setup I always enjoy in a story, and it's a nice twist on the usual Isekai formula. The world Melvin (or Jacob) is dropped into seems simple at first, but the implementation of a system in the normal lives of everyone around him makes it so he's always one step behind, which is a breath of fresh air at this point in Litrpgs.
Melvin himself is a pretty fun protagonist, if sometimes a bit too inclined toward inner monologues, but I've enjoyed my time with him so far. He's determined and irreverent, which is fun when combined with his humble start as a storyteller mythomancer.
As for the grammar, I wasn't able to find any errors or awkward turns of phrases. The prose/narration style are simple and to the point, which is to be expected when it's non-omniscient, and it does a good job for the story even if it's not the most in-depth.
I would definitely recommend this story for those who want a Litrpg with a protagonist who's not OP out of the gate and has to work hard to even survive. Really good read. - RwgunnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is another solid story by TheJournalist. It’s a slow build but the main character is very likable. I’m invested and look forward to finding how this world’s system is designed. There’s pressure to accomplish goals with time ticking down and worries about possible abuse of power by those who have it but not “sweat yourself out” levels of stress. I look forward to seeing how the story continues to grow.
- The ChaliceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Legendary Mythomancer veers off the path of a typical isekai pretty early when Melvin decides to give the gods a piece of his mind only to gain the interest of… something else moments before complete destruction. Luckily granted a new chance at life, Melvin quickly finds himself in the body of a dead man, just about ready to die again. The twists and turns keep piling up as he’s forced to unravel the memory of a life he never lived just to survive, and I found myself having to peel away just to stop reading for the day. It was a really exciting read that I recommend for fans of litRPG, isekais, or just fantasy really.
Mystery follows Melvin as he assumes the life of ‘Jacob’, who conveniently lost his memories after totally not dying. Each secret he unravels leads to an even greater one that more often than not, makes life much harder. Chance encounters and forgotten problems that not even death can escape from work together to tell a gripping tale as he finds his enigmatic legendary class to be his only hope of making it through the next day.
This story is written with a fast pace, but so little time has passed. Despite this, the world feels alive and very fleshed out. We never feel lost in the setting or wondering where we are with vivid descriptions sprinkled in gently as Melvin is thrown every which way. Because of this, in fact, I feel it reinforces the worldbuilding the author was woven into this story, giving us the feel of a large, bustling city where a million things can change in a matter of minutes.
The litRPG elements are solid and pretty straight forward, while Melvin’s class puts an interesting spin on it. Without spoiling anything, it allows him to progress in a really unique way that I think opens the door for a lot of novel paths this story can take down the road.
There are some grammatical errors here and there, but nothing that held me up or was particularly jarring.
Melvin is an interesting character who is forced to rapidly adjust to a new li - keeganashleyliveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story’s got personality! It opens with a sort of undefined, broad, overlooking-god feel as we follow the unfortunate death of a young man who mysteriously has more of an afterlife than he probably ever expected. Of course, I love the LitRPG elements in the story, particularly the original focus on storytelling and some broader ‘what is important in life’ big questions.
The crazy part is that this story is both squint-your-eyes, big picture and concept deep and, also, light, adventurous and funny. …Combine that with corpses, flies, runes, life in a body not your own and you get something twistedly gritty while being…is ‘wholly pleasant’ what I want to say here?
The writing draws you in with a warm flow, and I didn’t notice any mistakes or inconsistencies. The main character is highly relatable—like you can easily just sub yourself in his shoes and experience this strange, new reality with him. Another note: the author seems very excited about their work and very interactive with readers which is always a plus.
In long and short, this story is a wild ride. It’s a fleshed-out world that I want to explore further, so there’s an easy ‘follow’ and ‘favorite’ from me! - HuntingClawRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the best read so far.

The writing keeps you interested with its fluidity, crafting scenes that pull you in and action that keeps your eyes on the page. Yeah, as others have said the whole deal where we hop into other characters' heads in the way it’s done here can be seen as a bit unusual, but I found it adds a unique twist that keeps things interesting. The occasional missed comma hardly makes a dent in the enjoyment factor.
What really sets this story apart is how it unfolds. The introduction to the vast world and the system governing it doesn't overwhelm you with details all at once. Instead, it's like peeling back layers, revealing more of this intriguing setting with each chapter. And Melvin, our guide through this new reality, is just the right mix of relatable and mysterious. He's not your average hero, which adds a layer of depth to every interaction and decision. The support cast may need a bit more fleshing out, but there's a sense of realness to them that promises more substance in future chapters.
Overall, this book nails it. It's got that blend of action, intrigue, and character development that makes you eager to see where the journey leads. With a world this rich and a lead as compelling as Melvin, I'm all in for the ride.
Excited to see how these powers unfold. Overall, it's a stellar start and I'm all in for the ride ahead. - Odi ErisRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5[reviewed at Chapter 5]
While I am not a fan of LitRPG that much, I saw some pretty unique things about this particular story. I feel like the conflicts were set-up nicely and is foreshadowing a lot of things to look forward to in the future.
Style - 4.5/5
The author is quite determined with his style of writing. While it tends to be too-in-the-face at some points, it was still consistently delivering on other aspects. I was able to clearly imagine the scenes in my head as I was reading. There are a lot of adjectives used here that really add to the overall reader experience/
Grammar - 4/5
As one of the reviews said, there's a wide usage of vocabulary used which really diversified how the story felt overall. There were a bit of distracting grammatical errors, mostly with the punctuations, but it did a serviceable enough job for it not to take away from the enjoyment that much.
Story - 5/5
Great story so far! It follows the standard Isekai premise of being transported to another world but rather than retaining his body, the MC is actually reborn through another person's body. I find that to be quite intriguing and the God-like characters feels very ethereal with the way the author described them.
Character - 4/5
While I do believe an important decision has yet to be made by the MC, the progression with him, his monologues, and actions have been fairly consistent. It's interesting to see how he acts while being a completely different person.
Overall, a great start and looking forward for more! - LonebotRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style: Consistent with perspective, and the story is delivered with great detail and elaboration, perfectly painting the scene and Melvin’s actions very clearly. Overall, the style is executed well without any major issues.
Story: Very intriguing start. Even though it starts slow, there is a lot of potential packed into the first few chapters that I hope the story explores in greater detail. The way Melvin enters the new world too is quite unique and very interesting, as it makes me wonder what happened to the person beforehand.
Grammar: The wide use of vocabulary is great, but there are a few grammatical errors, especially regarding punctuation. I would advise either using a spell checker or proofread the chapters first. These errors are not too bad though, just a few touch-ups here and there and it’ll look fine.
Characters: I like Melvin’s character as he seems sharp and resourceful, able to use the bleak environment he is in to his advantage. I am also very interested in the gods that did his processing before he got transported, they seem like potential villains that can be explored in the future.
Overall, an interesting slow-burn story that takes its time to explore the characters and allow the plot to naturally grow, all while dropping little tidbits of lore that have great potential. Will continue reading, but it would be much better if the grammar was cleaned up a little more. - The Defenestrated TypewriterRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The story is mostly fine to start with, fairly average all round. However there are cracks right from the start and it just gets worse
The main character is an impulsive moron. It's his mouthing off at the gods that gets him his chance at a new life but after that most of his problems are because he is a thoughtless idiot. He wakes up in the body of a deliberately murdered street rat and then goes stumbling around drawing attention and getting into trouble instead of keeping his head down and learning how this new world works.
That his new body had past debts to a crime group is fine and could have made for a great low key first arc but instead the author slams down the accelerator and withing a matter of chapters the whole story has shifted. Now the MC is a wanted serial killer fighting the guards in running chases with a city wide manhunt and while third parties are inflating his kill count he's well and truly earned the attention.
He openly acknowledges that he as absolutely zero care for the lives of others.
He deliberately hunts down a pair of adventurers he had an altercation with. Then breaks into their home and plans to murder and rob then in their sleep because he needs money and "they deserve it".
There isn't much in the way of world building and what there is doesn't feel like it makes sense. The main character is meant to be a basic low level person with his unique ability giving him inflated stats. Which doesn't explain how he's running around fighting off an adventuring group, skilled magic assassins or groups of guards by himself. Things just go right for him when they shouldn't, wins fights, people help him for no good reason etc. the description of his actions In fights give the impression that he has some past skill or experience in fighting but the text suggests he's a complete novice.
The MC's unique ability is interesting and has a lot of potential but the story doesn't really focus on it much.
While there is the potential for plots and schemes
