Description

Xie Qi was a manufactured soul, no matter how hard he tried to act human. The people in the underworld argued about him amongst themselves; did he deserve to reincarnate? Could he even reincarnate in the first place? Was his soul made durable enough by the blasphemous humans that created him?

Even so, he is still sent to his next life since his merits were too much not to. From there, he decides his goal; he will not simply be a 'human.' He will become a sage, so he can truly understand why he was brought to existence.

....

Xifeng suffered injustice after injustice at the hands of the cultivators and the immortals. In the burning ruins of what was once her home, what was once her village, she decided that she would become something that could kill them all. That could slaughter them all and restore peace to the mortal world, make it into what it was supposed to always be.

For this, the sages especially chose her to be a sage, one of the last. To end this incessant battle which has gone on and on until the beginning of time and lead humanity into further progression beyond using the world as a crutch.

"The Last Sages" is a thrilling wuxia cultivation story that follows the journey of an artificial soul / homunculus named Xie Qi who is reincarnated into a human body in order to learn how to be human. The base premise is interesting, but I think the execution needs a lot more development. Still, the story is in its early stages and I think the author won't disappoint at the end.
Story / Style: After being cast out by his erm, new illustrious Xia family, Xia Song / Xie Qi encounters a girl named Han Xifeng whose family was killed by cultivators. The two of them decide to train together in order to become revivals and seek vengeance against those who wronged them.
It's too early to tell, but unfortunately, at this point, the basic pinocchio concept with Xie Qi hasn't been really tied into the story yet. So far, it's read as a pretty standard cultivation fic.
However, the story is action-packed and filled with exciting fight scenes, and it has set itself up as a story that will have multiple emotionally charged friendships and rivalries, and all the wuxia tropes people love.
Grammar: Couldn't find anything wrong here.
Characters: The characters in this novel are well-developed and likable. Xia Song and Han Xifeng are both relatable and easy to root for, and their growth throughout the story is satisfying to watch. The supporting cast of Xia ancestors is equally well-written, and the relationships between the characters are complex and nuanced.
Overall, "The Last Sages" is a must-read for fans of wuxia and cultivation stories. It's a well-written, engaging novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish

This review is based on the six chapters that were available at the time.
The premise for the story is unique, and I love it! Imagine, if you will, a being made by humans and grown in a vat. Does this being have a soul? It can think and even act in a "correct" way, but this is something that was created via science, not through the union of men and women that the gods created for the world's order in this setting.
The MC of this story is one such being, who lived a good life and is now being judged by the gods of the setting. By all rights, he is a good person based on his deeds. But he himself has no idea what a good person really is, and the gods have no idea if he can be reincarnated. Thus, the strongest of them, sends the MC to live a proper life and to learn what it is to be a human.
There are some issues with the story. The MC lacks interaction with other humans at first; his character looks stale until he gets the secondary MC at his side. The training montage is all well and good, but the premise of the story is so much more interesting when compared to the cultivation of talent.
Cultivation itself. It is done with style and properly. I found no egregious mistakes, but personally, I was more invested in both MCs and their interactions with each other.
There are some grammar errors, no way around it. Even I noticed some. But the text flows easily enough for the story to be consumed in one sitting.
At the end. Grammar, four stars, these mistakes are very evident, even if the story is good.
Story. Five stars for the idea, minus half a star for making the MC start training after reincarnation.
The worldbuilding is solid. The immortals have different morals from the normal humans, the setting is evenly split between technology and martial arts. All in all, looks interesting to me.
Characters. Five stars, when they open, they stay open and stay interesting.

It's still mostly setup for now, but the story looks like the start of an epic xianxia tale. Especially with this latest chapter expanding the scope of the world and seemingly laying the groundwork for future craziness. One to follow imo but lets get into specifics
Style: It's written like a xianxia, along with all the stylistic choices that implies. Lots of things compared to jade, porcelain, etc lol but keeping the genre in mind its quite good. Flows well and is evocative enough, my only complaint is that the prose gets a little too purple at times "Name of the Wind" style and I'm not sure it fits but its a minor thing
Story: Still just the setup chapters so far tbh the MC has spent all his time in a mountain lol but there are PoV shifts that introduce other aspects and regions of the world in an intriguing way. So far the potential revealed is the highlight of the story, there's a real sense of things slowly converging onto a single world-shaking event
Grammar: No complaints, didn't notice anything
Character: The one aspect I feel could use more depth is the characterisation. A lot of this is just a natural result of having your MC be an artificial lifeform but he's kinda just been going along with the flow since the story started. Again though, these are just the setup chapters so I can't penalise it much
Overall, I'd say give this one a follow and see where it goes, I really liked it

The book is written in pretty crisp prose and has a lightning fast pace. The story seems to be just beginning and breezing through at the same time. The difference might be because of the difference in activity taking place in the brother and mc pov.
The style has a legendary feel to it. I could practically hear the music in some of the scenes. The fifth chapter shows signs of a connecting arc that should slow the pace down, but hopefully keep the moments in. The author seems to have targeted these moments especially, something I liked quite a bit.
The story is just beginning, but what little I saw was more than satisfactory. I hope the story develops well in the future.
The grammar has some issues, but nothing major or immersion breaking for me. Perhaps the author is simply not a native speaker (I am not either) or have limited experience writing. That will be fixed with time I am sure.
And finally, the characters seem to have quite a bit of depth to them. And boy are there a lot of them. Just four chapters in and we are at what? 5?10 maybe. But either way, they do have personalities that are reflected in the book. I hope you like it too!
