- CJVBRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far so good. Liked the transformation of Pierre. Author keeps killing off characters but it works. Liked the battle scenes and the dialogue in general is pretty good. Was kind of confused what time period but its cleared up later. Started adding other POVs and those were pretty good. Liked it overall and am looking forward to more chapters. The author seems to upload a lot of chapters in a row which is also good. There doesn't seem to be any other reviews so here is 5 stars
- Z-GenesisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As not much of a historical novel reader, I was really interested to see how this story was going to tackle the French Revolution. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed. Painting a bleak harsh reality through the perspective of Pierre, The Last Harvest of Monsieur Fournier really goes into detail about the horrors and tough decisions that our main character has to make. My only comment would be that Royalroad isn't the best place to upload a historical novel, but anything is possible. Keep up the good work!
- AtomBombBabyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I don’t typically gravitate toward historical fiction, but this novel immediately drew me in with its portrayal of the French Revolution. The Last Harvest of Monsieur Fournier offers a stark, uncompromising view of the era through Pierre’s eyes, capturing both the brutality of the time and the weight of the moral decisions he must face. The atmosphere is grim and effective, making the historical setting feel vivid and impactful. While Royal Road may not be the most conventional platform for a story like this, the writing quality makes it stand out. Overall, it’s a compelling read, and I’m excited to see where it goes next as we enter into the next arc. Oh also, small complaint but the release if chapters is pretty inconsistent so can you please set a schedule or something.

Which in my estimation, is overall, more Pro-Revolution. However, that novel definitely highlights some of its flaws and problems. This author's dark story is quite the opposite: it is told from the point of view of a counter-revolutionary staging an uprising. Presumably a fictional one.
The tale is set during the Reign of Terror. It is hard to counter a classic like Les Miserables though I am certainly not against anyone offering a radically different perspective.
A bigger issue is that it will be hard to find an audience for an alternate history of the French Revolution particularly on Royal Road. If the author is French and had ancestors who suffered under the reign of terror I can see why he is so passionate about this.
Yet most Royal Road users will only have the haziest of knowledge of it. Yet if the story manages to get people invested in the conflict so they see it as a dark and emotional tale, people may enjoy this.
As long as people find the characters compelling( which another reviewer seems to and which is a good sign) and there are many gritty and exhilarating conflicts and battles, people here may actually really like it. They may even become curious about this period in history.
The description of Pierre and his family cultivating the vineyard feels grounded and gives a nice sense of place.
Imagining things from the point of view of the ordinary people who were not responsible for the starvation and problems that ignited the peasant uprisings and yet suffered horribly due to them, is compelling.
The main character who owns a vineyard seems like a person with good and noble intentions and his workers are depicted as happy and well-treated. Such landowners, I am sure, existed.
This was not the case a lot of the time though. Unless the author is implying all accounts of starvation, overworking people and landlord abuses were wrong or exagg
