- luda305Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5The basic premise without spoiling anything is that Flora is hiking with her friend, they both get isekai'd, but the friend is in trouble so Flora has to find and save her. Flora also has a lot of stereotypical protagonist powers going on. And she falls in love at first sight with a native. The romance gets fairly heavy.
The spoiler version is that Flora is a Lunar Elf who was hidden on Earth while the Lunar Elves were genocided. Flora was glamoured as a human and to lose her memories. She grew up in foster care with her best friend Cassie. Flora went on to become a successful veterinarian, outdoorsman and general badass, while Cassie got into a lame relationship and he broke up with her after a decade. Flora takes Cassie on a feel-better hiking trip when they both get isekai'd. Flora is rescued by a lycan, has her glamour removed (revealing her true appearance and partially restoring her memories), and she and the lycan instantly fall in love. She's also apparently the prophesied "last druid" in the lycan's prophecies. But Flora finds out that Cassie as a human was likely portal-kidnapped by the vampires for her blood, so Flora sets off to rescue Cassie after getting into a fight with her lycan-boyfriend.
It edges a little bit into furry territory.
Flora's a pretty interesting character, though the memory restoration and its effects seem a bit glossed over. The other side characters also seem fairly well built out.
The worldbuilding has some facial similarities to Twilight, but nothing to hold against it. Essentially, the supernatural retreated from Earth to an alternate world known as Terra. And there are vampires. And the lycans are a Native American tribe from Washington state. Also, it's a low-magic world. So there's like shape shifting and some healing, but you won't find dozens of elemental mages everytime you turn around.
Grammar is impeccable.
The writing style is easy to read. And even if the story was a bit surprising to me, it was still enough of - Username_is_already_in_useRoyal Road★★ 1.5At the time i write this review the synopsis is absolutely unreadable
The actual text is better, yet it still looks like it was poorly translated from an other language and many sentences are confusing.
Here an exemple from the first Chapter :
"Cassie, her childhood best friend with an unbreakable bond, had just broken up from a long time relationship. She was engaged and he had cheated on her.
Flora knew all the details, listening to Cassie sob over the phone across the country in New Hampshire. She didn’t know what to do, the last decade of her life had been with Justin. She packed everything up and found an apartment, but still didn’t know how she was going to stay afloat. Justin had shouldered most of the burden of finances for their living expenses and Cassie’s degree in American History had made it difficult to find new opportunities, especially since she had always decided to live where Justin’s work was.
She had also never come out to Colorado previously because Justin didn’t think it was a great idea to go without him."
