Description

The cycle of power sees his home annihilated, mother dead, and life destroyed -why?

Four affinities dominate the world; Evoker, Imbuer, Augmenter, Ruler. Whispers in the corners of history speak to a fifth, the venerableGodblessed, capable of harnessing Quintessence with the power of all four. Few in modernity possess such power, and yet.

In the wake of an upheaval caused by a war in which Alex has no part, he begins to question the way of their world. If the powerful are so virtuous, why are the weak treated like filth? What value is there to a life, that the death of everyone he knows can be justified so easily? If this is how the world is, then isn't the worldwrong?

It begins with a question, and through his pursuit of the answer, The Knights Templar will rewrite the world by force.

Style: This started off reading with the descriptiveness and deliberateness I usually see in slower paced slice-of-life fantasies, but a lot happened in the first three chapters including fleeing from an invasion.  The fourth chapter begins the action.  My favorite part was the vivid prose which I thoroughly enjoyed.  The author paints a picture that sucks you into a living, breathing world with history.
Grammar: No issues at all.  Easy to read and consistent.  At no point did a big error pull me out of the story.
Story: What I saw of the magic system was well thought out and interesting too and I can’t wait to find out more of the specifics or see how other powers are applied.  If I had to make a comparison, it would be with early Cradle with the distinction the first area placed between the types of cultivators.  In this book the MC is an Imbuer.
So far, the story has been about a young man grappling with coming of age, a lost crush, his town invaded, fleeing with his sister, and survivors guilt for fleeing.
Characters: The main character and his sister are relatable and enjoyable with enough said you’ll want to see how they develop.

The Knights Templar is a good fantasy story with an intriguing magic system resembling many cultivation stories mixed with different classes of magic, such as evokers (the standard mage), Augmenters (Reinforcement magic), and Imbuers (Enchanters).
Prose within this story is fairly well done, and while lacking something that makes me think, 'this is LiamVI's style' still comes off fairly professionally done as it tells our protagonist, Alex's story. A tale in which he and his sister survive the invasion of their hometown and are forced into a wider world where cultivation power is king and those from a sleepy town are doomed to destitution.
The characters are interesting enough, but aside from Alex -who's third person perspective we're reading- we haven't gotten too deep into anyone's personality at this time of reading. Though there are hints of more in his prodigy sister and the retired soldier that mentors him that'll probably be drawn out in future chapters as the story goes on.
Still for anyone who is looking for a cultivation story that stands out from the rest with a stronger fantasy setting than is typical the genre, or even just a classic adventuring story then this one will make for a fantastic read.

It's a decently executed coming of age in a peaceful town until he fire nation attacked story. Outside the four categories I do like the world building and magic system.
Style: No major problems, and a couple non-standard phrasings that I enjoyed.
Grammar: Grammar is my least strict category, and it passes the no noticed issues from a casual reading test. Everything was clear in what was meant with no confusion either from typos or other mistakes.
Story: It's a fairly standard story, but of a form with room for variation that will make or break it. Nothing especially annoying, but also nothing that particularly stands out so far. Enjoyable.
Characters: Same as with the story. Nothing is particularly annoying about them and they behave logically (or consistent when emotions are a primary factor) but nothing stands out so far that makes me really want to get to know them more. I do rather like dream mother and her conflicting desires and thought it was well written, but, well, that doesn't seem like it'll be a major part of the story.
Anyways, it fits in a niche that lots of people enjoy and it does it well if not exceptionally.
