- ZeddoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of those few nuggets of gold that you might find on this website. This story is an engrossing read; I can recall many times that I laughed out loud at the fiendish antics of the main character while being excited at his growth. I think the story, and the author, have a lot of potential.
Check it out! - Cat971Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very pleasant to read, clean and developed writing style. Very original story with hidden twists and colourful characters. You don’t notice your self how you wait in anticipation for a next chapter. 100% worth the time , start reading now.
- HamoodaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It is just very beautiful... Just read it please
It is complete in every aspect and funny. the characters are very outlined and thought of and plot is sweet not so complex not so simple. - BookWorm25Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well done. A must read. Reminds me of something similar to “Jig the Goblin.” Entertaining, funny, and believable. This realistic world draws you in and keeps you there–if nothing else then because you wonder what trouble our MC will get into next.
- Hellbound_angelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Iron Teeth: A Goblin's Tale' is a refreshingly unique take on the traditional fantasy genre that I have come back to read multiple times. It’s the best story from an inhuman perspective that I have read so far. And it could satisfy my cravings for dark fantasy with a good humour, which was in perfect balance. This story actually made me laugh out loud which is not easy to do when reading.
Author ClearMadness intricately constructs a world that comes alive through rich descriptions and details. The setting is both brutal and beautiful, highlighting the rough edges of a wilderness fraught with danger and the raw, unpolished elegance that comes with it. It's a world filled with magic, monsters, and chaos, painting a darkly beautiful backdrop against which the story unfolds.
The story's protagonist, Blacknail, is a standout character in a literary world often filled with stock archetypes. His progression from an insignificant minion to a powerful creature capable of affecting significant changes in his world is a captivating journey that breaks away from the typical hero's journey. Blacknail's cunning and ruthless survival instincts, coupled with a goblin's perspective on human society, provide a refreshing contrast to the usual high-minded heroes found in usual fantasy novels. It also lets the reader see another perspective, which in my opinion is the most appealing part of the story, we actually see humans from another perspective in this case, from the eyes of a blood thirsty goblin that thrives in the chaos and violence. Blacknail wins his fights not because of some stupidly overpowered abilities, but because of his cunning and ruthless mentality coupled with his skills that we see him develop throughout the story.
The supporting characters are just as compelling and well-written, each with their distinct personalities and motives that add a layer of depth to the narrative. Whether it's the rogue adventurers, rival goblins, or the complex political machinations - Lord Of Mild InterestRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well. This novel is great. I love it.
- OldJazzLubeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of the best things I've read on Royal Road, it's up there with the greats like Mother of Learning and Beware of Chicken.
The story flows magnificently, even though it starts off with what might basically be called a cottage-core, fantasy, slave slice-of-life, it oozes with momentum. If a month ago someone told me that a scene about a goblin, walking by himself in woods and nothing goes wrong, could be riveting storytelling, I would have called bs on it.
And don't even get me started on the cast, I love all those stupid humans, ugly humans, stinky humans. Usually when a found family narrative involves a group of bandits, the stories tend to soften their rougher edges, to make them gruff but good natured. That's not what we have here. They are a band of murderous, malodourous vagrants. They are as unrepentant as they are unwashed and you would never want them anywhere near you except maybe for Herad - please step on me then stab me from bellow the chin all the way thru the brain, mommy.
One piece of advice. Skip the prologue. It adds nothing except confusion. It kind of sets you up into believing this is some reincarnation or isekai, which it very much is not. The editor seems to agree, since it didn't make it into the ebook.
Edit: This series is so infectious that now I catch myself calling the character in other series sloshers if they have potion based power systems. - SetantaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0TL DR: While often slow-moving compared to some of the pulp on RRL, this is a very well written story with complex characters, a thorough cosmology and enough grimdark to make it serious. Absolutely must read.
Review
I've been reading this for a long time now. It's one of my favorites on the site, and that will bias my review to a degree, so I want that to be understood up front.
Five stars? Really? Is this really a five star story?
Fuck yes it is. Compared to the rest of the shit on this site, it's probably a seven or eight, but even compared to professionally published fantasy from some of the genre's mainstays, this is a work the author should be immensely proud of. The story is winding, but navigable, with epicycles of side-plot that bring out different characters with different motivations and new situations for our antihero to survive.
Yeah, antihero. Not like Deadpool or Jaime Lannister - a dude who's actual bad news and happens to work toward the greater good most of the time as a result of his actions rather than as an end-goal of his actions.
Blacknail is supremely selfish, and would be unlikable in most stories if it weren't for how well-crafted his persona turns out to be at every new juncture. He's terrified of things and also courageous; strong as hell but desperately weak; a peerless murderer but constantly in mortal danger.
Is the author going to kill him off? No. Do you always feel the safety of that narrative armor? No. The author is able to make him vulnerable within the understanding that it's Blacknail's story and he's not going to nope on out of it any time in the near future.
But man, just...there are so many things that the author is doing right here compared to most.
The scope of this journey is immense, but it comes across as meticulously planned-for. The narrative doesn't drag because of its length, but rather slithers all the faster with the added bulk. Six hojillion pages in and we're still, as readers, wary of the Green and desperate to - Turtle WarsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the few books on royalroad that feels like reading an actual book. Very polished, some very minor grammar issues, otherwise excellent. I always saw this novel when searching for a completed one, somehow the blurb or the image kept me putting it off. Possibly felt it just a copy of the "reborn as a spider" kind of novel. Happy to say it's a totally unique work.
- HavingFUN~Royal Road★★★★ 4.0This review is done in early chapters, about the third arc or so
A very enjoyable read! It has nice subtle humor that feels natural and not forced and cringy.
I love how the characters are very well protiated, and each has distinctive character and how the MC perspective got conveyed. It is well done that I actually loved the cowardice and naive yet smart little goblin in the beginning.(He showed growth, but I didn't read that far ahead thought.)
The story style is very nice and integrating. The pace is also good and not boring. The only thing I wish it doesn't happen is for the story to turn into heavy suspense, thrill and angest kind. Although many like them I find them nerve wracking. Sigh~
Overall the story is unique and fresh air for me
Edit:
The latest development is not to my liking, i wish it don't develop to what i think it is heading to.
