- BloodyDeepPlotRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a story about super-soldier from future isekaied into a fantasy world. Main Character is a genius at war, both as a combatant and as a leader as well. He uses his knowledge in world on goblins and levels to get stronger and return back to his home world.
This is a story about an overpowered main character, monster-slaying as an adventurer, learning magic, coming of age, city building, war tactics/leadership, and mature themes.
Very straightforward read. Story flows quickly foward without any stopping, one could even say it races foward.
Style: 5/5 Good writing style, everything that happens is easy to understand and follow.
Grammar: 5/5 I hvaent noticed any spelling or sentence building mistakes.
Story: 5/5. Main Character has no memory of how he got isekaied and to whom his body benlonged to. Main Character tries to discover all that anf get back to Terra.
Characters 5/5. We have wide plethora of distinctive characters, that have varous relationsips between them. Main Character also builds relationships with many people, along the way.
Story has interesting leveling up system, competent main character and many other things that could get readers interested. Its definately good read if someone enjoys Over Powered Main Character. - frankinnolaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is well crafted and world bulding is very good. Character developlment is good and you do get to see how they 'click'. Be prepared for roller coaster twist and some realistic battle outcomes - good people do die and tough decisions made. One of the better stories on RR and I look forward to each chapter.
- IronManTonyStank12Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Started reading it and I love OP MC's. But if that's not your take then I would avoid reading it. Some errors here and there but nothing too major. Really fun and simple read!
The book depicts some really violent moments which was quite shocking to read. The city building aspect coud be fleshed out a bit more while the fantasy element hits it just right. There are a few "cliche" arcs like a school and nobles etc. but they were done in a more better manor.
The romance was decently written. Some of the characters were very likable while others served as just plot devices with little depth.
The grammar was well done for the most part but had a few issues here and there with typos or awkward phrasing.
The battles and world building were definitely top notch though! Outside of that, really enjoyable read. Very simple and no major perspective shifts to follow. It doesn't try too hard in any specific category other than the fight scenes which were welcomed greatly.
MC is flawed despite being OP. Which the author adds via the post tramautic stress that the MC experiences.
I look forward to book 2 with improvements and more worldbuilding! - Inaca2001Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Fun to cheer on MC, action is intense, and world-building is great. Decently executed romance B-plots.
MC is pretty unique. He isn't your typical useless person to be isekai. He's a charismatic leader soldier. He applies his knowledge and war experience to dominate. I even want to follow him into battle when he gives a speech. He never hesitates to kill a bad guy while he treats good people with love. The author also writes a lot of the first-person thought process for MC, so it's easier to get to know him. Overall, a well-written and unique MC.
The writing is decently structured. There are small mistakes with past tense, etc.. But not enough to ruin it. It's nice that it's descriptive enough for me to understand what is happening as well.
Since the story is mostly shown from MC's perspective, you can read it easily without worrying about changes in style. This is especially enjoyable during the romance sections.
The story has a lot of sub-plot that add to the main story. A school, tournament, city-building, adventuring, dungeon part, battle, romance, and war all contribute to the main plot. It surprisingly works well.
If you're okay with the overpowered MC trope, then this is a highly recommended read. I just hope Book 2 will won't take too long. - veed23Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5I usually gravitate towards the "Villainess gets Revenge" end of the reincarnation novel spectrum, but decided to give this read a shot. Suffice to say I'm surprised by how much I've become invested in this story!
The MC does tend to follow the overpowered hero trope, but I find that it makes for a more comfortable read; as I can focus more on the battle versus whether or not the MC will fail (at least for the first couple of chapters). The magic system in the book is also pretty standard, which makes it easily digestable and straightforward to follow during battle scenes.
Riding off of the predictability of the book, my favorite technique of the author thus far is their ability to completely disrupt the serene pace of stereotypical tropes. When these scenes play out, the author goes in with heavy descriptions to further heighten the visceral tragedy of the plot. Like the scene in chapter 25, the suspense of subverting the plot keeps me engaged and waiting for the next update!
In regards to the relationships between the characters, the author definitely could include more depth. More specifically, some of the people in the book seem to only serve as yes men or character development arcs for the MC. However, this is a minute point, as the overarching story and the main cast of characters push the story along beautifully. I thoroughly am enjoying the way this author paints his world and plot, and I am excited for the last two chapters! - Jabi213Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Since it's the author's first book, the first few chapters didn't wow me. But I was hooked at the premise anyway and the battles were enjoyable to read, so I continued.
The early chapters did fall into certain tropes but I wondered if that was intentional as halfway through, side characters finally got some development. During the first half, they didn't. They felt like plot devices. But as I read through toward the second half, the side characters were much more likable. (I really like Marie Balan) I think she's the best side character written of the bunch.
The battles/action were well executed, probably among the best on Royal Road. I'm a sucker for a good fantasy strategy battle setting.
As I read into Embers of War, the second book, the style DRASTICALLY improved. It felt like the author actually took the time to flesh out dialogue and growth of other characters. POV is finally taken away from MC sometimes too which was nice.
Lastly, my favorite thing is MC isn't dense. He's quite unique for a MC, which surprised me. He's calm, collected, and at times, becomes emotional when necessary. He isn't afraid to kill bad guys which is a huge plus. The super soldier background is well integrated and isn't ignored. It plays quite a big role throughout the story.
Anyway, I would've given this a 5/5 if it weren't for the first half. So I'm going to give it a 4.5/5.
If you're looking to read it, just understand the early chapters are nowhere near as good as the later half. Give it a go! - StoicGuardRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Very fun read. It doesn't feel very high stress because I don't feel a lot of pressure about the main character getting major setbacks. He's rather over powered, and if that's not your thing then you won't like this story.
There are discrete levels in the story and some allusions to how the main character is unique but the leveling doesn't have massive blue screens and it's not mathematically tedious. It feels almost as an afterthought and I'd expect nothing to be lost without it being implemented.
There is a bit of prophecy/chosen one in the mix, which is not overly harped upon and flows nicely in the general narrative.
There are nice secondary characters who feel unique but there are also some characters who feel like they exist just to perform a function in the world of the main character and add nothing from their own personalities. This may be hand waved as a function of the power the main character comes to weild politically, but it leaves several characters feeling flat.
The style of the story is very easy to read and helps contribute to the fun of reading. There's no complex perspective shifts, no extra thought required to parse through dramatic irony. It's a narrative from the perspective of the main character.
I didn't notice any grammar issues, and spelling flew under the radar as well. I'm not a fine-toothed comb kind of reader, but I usualy notice issues with then/than, they're/their/there and the like. No specific instances of words being used that feel like a thesaurus was consulted, everything flows pretty smooth.
Generally, I enjoy this story and look forward to another great chapter dump. It's just not going to be the kind of story that everyone enjoys. - Lion_HeartRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story in itself is well written, but after the female lead got killed off, nothing could really fill that role again and the story lost a lot of potential. While there are some characters that are built up to possibly fill in, none of them feel right. Killing her of also made me less interested in other side characters, because it showed that any character I like can just be killed of without rhyme or reason, so what‘s the point? Resurrecting her could be possible in this world (I mean the mc experienced something similar) but besides the general problems with people not staying dead in Storys, she had to kill a loyal friend that was about to marry, just before dying, so no clue how that could be fixed. Also I feel it is because the Author keeps introducing love interests, is against a Harem (or anything else that involves accepting loving more than one person at a time) and doesn’t know how to get rid of them when trying to get to the next one. Either go the Harem route (it is possible to still make that a good story without a monogamous mc) or stop introducing possible lovers. In the end the author burned of half of what could have made a great story and the only reason I keep reading is that I feels like the (writing) quality of what is left, improved. Finally I can say it started with the potential to become a great novel, killed of that potential to become a mediocre or even bad story, but improved some and increased to being an okay one, still hurt, but improving and I haven’t given hope up. (Review: Book one and part of Book two)
Edit: while still not perfect, Book three has been quite enjoyable so far and without any major frustrations. Not many can write a book that frustrated me on that level and being able to improve and still keep me hooked. I look forward how this Story will continue. - PickyReaderRoyal Road★★ 2.0The novel was written on a pretty sturdy albeit lacklustre foundation where the mc exists for the sake of other people and essentially goes around as a side character completing quests for them, he feels like the protagonist mainly via perspective when you account for the major flaw this novel has.
Towards the end of book 1 the author kills off the female lead, no exaggeration. A little over 50% of what's holding the novel together just gets snipped like it wasn't the entire driving force behind what's been going on so far, at first I dismissed it as just a small mistake trying to write a "mc suffers a major loss to fuel his growth" before realising he'd just finished suffering like 2 or 3 of those in a row, one of which literally tied directly to the female lead and the other being the death of a loved one.
Now I'm under the impression that the author didn't know what to do with the novel so instead killed off the novel and essentially formed a new one wearing its skin while just trying to pass it off as a development, this novel ends with the mc losing, the villains win and the hero fails. It's like if infinity war happened, thanos snaps, then we cut to a bunch of parody characters "playing" at being the avengers.
Everything after then feels like some hollow parody where the author is rubbing it in our nose that he actively made the decision to ruin our reading experience for the kicks and I cannot physically comprehend the motivation to do so. Is this a troll novel? Was it some major translation error where he killed the wrong character? I can't think of a plausible excuse, sure you could brush it off as "maybe he just made a narrative error, nobody is perfect" but it seems too blatant and decisive to be a mere error.
