Description
This is the story of a Damsel who thought she could be more.
Amelia Strightsworth, the feeble daughter of a Baron, has chanced upon an ominous book that claims there is something afoot in the Velvetican Kingdom. And it doesn’t take long for her to suspect that ‘The Historian’s Novel’ might have been sent back in time.
Follow Amelia as she makes friends with a lost princess, attempts to reconcile with her father who drinks far too much, and bumbles about while trying to prevent the utter destruction of all that she’s known.
Will Amelia succeed?
Probably not.
But it’s hard to be street-smart when you’ve lived in a Greenhouse for most of your life.

- Mle4602Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm really enjoying The Historian's Novel so far. There's clearly a lot of depth to it, and the story could proceed down any one of hundreds of plot lines... I like not being able to predict exactly what will happen in the next chapter. I'm sure there are also a bunch of red herrings that I'm completely falling for, which makes things even more interesting. It has fantasy and mystery and romance... all the good stuff.
The characters are developed and complex, and each have their own distinct voice. The author doesn't heavily rely on stereotypes, which I like. The individuals in the story really come to life when you're reading. I've found myself rooting for the types of characters I'd otherwise have never cared for. The grammar is also near impeccable.
I particularly like the style of writing the author employs. There's no excessive wordiness and you view the world through the eyes of the individual characters, each of whom clearly focus on different things and are subjected to their own biases.
It's been a while since I've read a story that has truly captivated my attention, and I look forward to seeing how things play out in the following chapters.
