- CShadrockzRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style: the writing style is sleek and skeletal. The author keeps the world-building to a minimum but gives the reader just enough detail to imagine and create it themselves. Personally, it's my favorite kind of writing but I'm sure others may prefer a more in-depth description of the setting, characters, etc. The author does a wonderful job at moving in and out of scenes without jarring the reader. I appreciate the pace of each chapter. We move from fast-paced to a mundane scene and it is an excellent texture to read. The interaction with the characters and scenes are realistic and conjure an accurate picture without much effort on the part of the reader.
Grammar: I'm not great at grammar so their isn't too much to say. There are a few misspellings and phrases that aren't typical (american) english but then again, they work just fine within the story so no complaints.
Story: It starts out with adrenaline. Clear and concise too. The story then slows doesn as we meet new characters but you can feel the pace pick back up slowly. The way the author has started the story before moving into the next scene is what really sets the story off. There are some tension points the author could drag out longer to improve reader tension. The author does a good job balancing the 'give way too much information/backstory' with 'what the reader actually needs to know'.
Character: The main character is lively and sarcastic. A real joy to read and watch interact within the story. The other characters are distinct but missing the same vibrancy as the main character however, this might be intentional on the part of the author as the storyline needs to take the forefront in certain places.
Overall: A fun and good read! - EuRobotoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The Heist at The Grand Spire is a fast paced narration that captivates you in its first chapters and keeps you engaged through its dynamic scenes. The initial struggles and worries of Reija, one of the main characters, are very relatable. While the other, Hokhin, comes off as a charismatic mentor with a mysterious past.
Style score: The writing style is truly solid and dynamic, and helps the story flow undisturbed. My only minor concern is that at times pursuing that dynamic feeling takes a toll on the exposition.
Grammar score: The mistakes I caught were minor and far between, nothing that detracts from the reading experience.
Story score: Quick and dynamic, thanks to its style. We see action and development right from the start. The fast pace keeps things interesting and the scenes flow well. One problem I found in the first chapters is that the combination of the fast pace and minimum exposition left me confused at certain points, although things got clarified soon after. There were also a couple scenes that felt a bit rushed, or maybe underdeveloped. But they were mostly unimportant for the main plot.
Character score: The two main characters, Hokhin and Reija, are charismatic. I'm personally more invested in Reija, right from the beginning we get to see a lot of personal development on her side. The interactions between these two characters work well, although the fast pace doesn't give me enough time to enjoy them at times.
The other characters that are part of the heist are also interesting, they all get some 'screen time' during the novel that let's the reader grow familiar with them and see their different personalities.
Conclusion: The Heist at The Grand Spire is a captivating story. Once you are immersed into it you won't get bored as the action and scenes are quick and delivered in a dynamic fashion. - RensenRenRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I really found this story interesting while reading it, I enjoyed to some extent but couldn't really get into the whole vibe of it.
The writing is simple and very descriptive of everything but the characters. From their actions and mannerisms I have to take a guess of their appearances. Maybe it's cause of my shaky memory but I can't seem to recall when a characters physical attributes where described. Sure there are mentions of being taller, or younger or in the same age grade, we even get to know that on of the characters has a child but nothing about their physical appearance.
Aside from that I really have no other complaints against the work, it's pacing is solid as this is a heist novel and the actions have to be swift and constantly in motion to reflect the speediness at which the characters have to work.
The characters are witty and interesting, I look forward to learning more about each one of them in the main team in the coming chapters. Reija especially with her inner turmoil and quick tongue. Hokhin is another favorite since he exudes an air of charisma and mystery.
The names of the characters were also very intriguing and I can see the writer really dove into the fantasy thriller type with how uncanny and exotic each name looks.
As for the plot, I can't say I was too taken with it, it's the classic heist setting where certain characters are planning to teach a possibly corrupt corporation the error of their ways by stealing from them so there's not much to it, but the author has done a fine job in making the story interesting so far and I wasn't bored a tad bit while reading.
This story knows what it is and doesn't try to lean far off the rails and I deeply hope to see how it all ends.
