Description
“That’s fitting. Now I can really call myself a ghost and demon. Turns out I’ve been one all along.”
Meet Han Abrial Chae-young.
A reckless demon, a badass blade fighter, and a total shitshow by probably most of the Empire of Gongkua's standards.
After being imprisoned in her parents' house for eighteen years and finally breaking free, her first goal is to, um...well, go straight back to the house. She has to, ok?! It's in order to rescue her best friend and (technical) servant, Finley, who's still stuck there, and for whom she doesn't feel anything except total platonic non-romantic non-sexual attraction(starts coughing violently cough COUGH).
In the Empire of Gongkua, Abrial will have many adventures, meet enigmatic people, cultivate the art of magic, and slowly experience the unfolding of a mysterious fate that has shrouded her from even before birth.
A mysterious fate involving the one and only murderer of millions, the cruel and heartless Emperor of Gongkua — the one who's wanted Abrial dead from the very beginning.

The detailed descriptions of the settings, the characters, and the cultures they inhabit are truly awe-inspiring.

Story score 5/5: The story builds tension beautifully, and the personal struggles and relationships of the characters add depth and nuance to the narrative.
Grammar score 5/5: The grammar is outstanding, with clear and precise writing that flows effortlessly without any noticeable errors.
Character score 5/5: The characters are multi-dimensional and compelling, and their personal struggles and relationships with one another add layers of depth to the story. Abrial is a strong and determined character, but also deeply flawed and vulnerable, making her relatable and sympathetic to read. The other characters are nuanced and believable, with well-developed motivations and behaviors that make them truly memorable.
Overall, How a Reckless Girl Defeated the Heartless Emperor is a phenomenal novel that will leave readers enchanted and eager for more. Abriel's journey to defeat the heartless emperor is both thrilling and heart-wrenching. I Highly recommend this story for fans of fantasy and adventure! ♥ - crotonasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really loved this read, can't wait till the story progresses more. The dialogue in this book is hilarious. The story it great for readers who enjoyed MXTX. The main character has a fiery personally, can't wait to see where this goes:) the artwork that goes with the story is also awesome.
please keep on updating 🥰🥰🥰 - fedessRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a female lead story where you don't need to be reminded about that fact. I think it's not an easy character to write but so far it is consistent, hilarious and cute.
The story didn't pull me in immediately because it took a while for me to get a feel for the world outside of the MC's area but that might have been too harsh and early since it fits her life, and I've changed my opinion and score drastically now. There are always some things going on from the start and there is a very impactful grand scheme.
The characters make this one of my favorite stories. The author isn't afraid to put in extreme characters and this spices up the story splendidly, giving them life without spending entire pages on backgrounds like some stories do. On the other hand some some side characters and commoners are too simple, as if they have no brain and only emotions, but those moments are rare and do their jobs in setting a scene. It's realistic in the sense that in the dark ages people really did support witch hunting like gullible idiots.
All in all, a great enjoyable read with fun characters and enough mystery and pace to keep you interested. I would recommend this story to everyone and I'm honestly surprised it has so little attention at the moment. - irakli2692Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is really fun to read. Main character is comically chaotic. Had lots of laughs following her story. Side characters are really interesting too. Story is still unfolding. We only see small bits of real situation as we read. But whatever I've seen is interesting. Magic is barely introduced. Looking forward to that.
- KinAkira1996Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I thought that the story and the way it was presented was very interesting. Right from the beginning the mystery of the first chapter reels you in. By the second chapter onward you're most likely staying for the characters to see how they interact with one another and develop further.
Style (5/5): I think the prose was great. The descriptions and sentence structure allowed the story to paint a vivid picture while also allowing it to flow very smoothly.
Story (5/5): The story takes inspiration from what seems to be Chinese and Korean culture. It follows the exploits of a girl named Abrial as she yearns to be free of her confinement in her own home, which her parents have assured her is for her own protection. This aims to be a coming of age story as Abrial navigates the world around her, encountering colorful characters, and maybe even stumbling across a few unsolved mysteries.
Grammar (5/5): I found no issues with grammar.
Characters (5/5): I really enjoyed the character interactions, especially between Finley and Abrial. The characters have established motivations and nuance to them that adds depth to the story. I thought the supporting cast was very strong as well.
I highly recommend this progression story for people who love character driven narratives and stories that use cultural inspiration in novel and inventive ways. - SteampocalypseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoyed reading this because I could get through it in a sitting, and have more updates to look forward to! I've either been reading completed novels, or ones on indefinite hiatus. I liked the multicultural setting, and the protagonist, who's a badass but also naive, stubborn, and obstinate; because of her sheltered life, her personality makes 100% sense, and it's pretty different from other novels I've read lately! It does a good job of getting her into trouble, and it makes the story feel vibrant, energetic, and fun to read. The foreshadowing, intrigue, and mysterious characters are also done well and help me know this story has potential;- and the side characters are good, just one chapter or even a few paragraphs with them (such as the non-binary magician I've forgotten the name of) make me fall in love and want to know more. The prose is great, and portrays mind-altering/surreal effects well, as well as Abrial's subconscious fears and issues, without telling us directly about them and keeping us in Abrial's non-self-aware-head.
That said, I don't think it's a 5/5. Here are my individual ratings, and the reasoning behind them. EDIT: I've been enjoying the story so much, I've upped my overall rating! I haven't changed my individual ratings much, but this is now a 5/5 for me.
Style score- 4.5/5, I've already said I like the prose, but a few words and descriptors are overused, like 'obsidian'.
Grammar score- 4.5/5; sentence structure is fine, but there are a few typos. (EDIT: typoes have gone away, changed score to a 5/5).
Story score- 3.5/5. This is the weakness. I'm sure as it goes on, more will be revealed, but some of the plot feels like the story trying to make up for the weak worldbuilding behind just making magic illegal, and it's missing the scope, ramifications on society, and reflectiveness I'd like behind something where to some extent, the average person is a magician-hating bigot- I get the feeling maybe the plague was blamed on magicians, but I'd st - JaysanerdRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5As a reader, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and characters that you've created. The plot was well thought-out, and the pacing kept me engaged from beginning to end. Abrial, the protagonist, was particularly compelling, and her dialogue and interactions felt natural, adding to the overall authenticity of the story.
Additionally, I appreciate the care you've taken with grammar and language. Even though English isn't my native language, I didn't notice any glaring errors, which is a testament to your attention to detail. It's clear that you've put a lot of effort into crafting a polished and professional piece of writing.
That being said, one area where the story could be improved is with descriptive writing. While the plot and characters are well-crafted, the setting and atmosphere could benefit from more detailed and immersive descriptions. This would allow readers to better visualize the world that you've created and become more invested in the story.
Overall, I think you've done an excellent job with this story, and I would highly recommend it to others. The characters are interesting and relatable, and the plot is engaging and well-executed. With a bit more attention to descriptive writing, this story has the potential to be even more impactful and memorable. - Melting SkyRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I'm going to keep this review short and to the point. This has been a fun little read so far. The world-building is loosely based on xianxia-style fantasy elements minus all the heavy cultivator stuff with a more classical organic take on Eastern magic with some other influences thrown in to spice it up a bit. The setting is nothing groundbreaking, but there are a lot of colorful and evocative little details that breathe life into the world. The characters are interesting, and their interactions are fun, but be warned they do have a bit of an over-the-top anime sort of feel to them, particularly the MC who is straight-up nuts. She's like a self-destructive bull in a china shop once she gets unleashed on the world. It's not necessarily a bad thing, just something to note if those kinds of characters aren't your thing.
All in all, it's worth a look if you like Eastern fantasy with a bit of light yuri thrown into the mix. - NKugisakiRoyal Road★ 0.5I appreciate the authors effort here but just wanted to give some constructive feedback. The work is difficult to follow and choppy as you go through the chapters which makes it hard to develop a connection with the characters. I would spend more time on basic character development and try to develop the chapters better, making them easier to follow. Writing is an art, and it takes time to develop, and I would guess you are a young writer, and I would continue to write as often as it takes years to develop effective writing skills. I see some parts that are encouraging that show potential. It may just be this type of writing and I would experiment with other literary genres.
