Description
When Luke Bennet gets pulled into a world full of deadly monsters, stats, and secrets, he finds out the truth about what really happened to his missing family. And he discovers that there’s a way to get them back, to get them all home. The journey will be dangerous, and he’ll need to be much, much stronger if he wants to have a chance of even surviving it.
Arrayed against him are hungry beasts who would snap him up given half a chance, mortal agents of a Pantheon determined to erase him and the threat he represents, and perhaps even the omniscient system itself. Luke is hellbent on reclaiming everything this new world has taken from him, even if he has to burn it down to get what he wants. No one, not even the gods themselves, are going to stop him.
What to expect:
* a system that actually exists for a reason* isekaied weak to strong protagonist* who has to work for his upgrades* some monogamous romance sub plots
What you won’t find:
* harems* tournament arcs* a hopeless, grim world where everything is constantly going wrong* unresolved plot points (as long as you’re patient)* a system apocalypse* kingdom building or importing of Earth technology* genre-savvy protagonist who knows all the tropes and automatically wins
Current release schedule is M-F.

- sirsmoakRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0good character and development only complaint is the occasional cluelessness about game stats and skills but overall amazing with the system of stats and skills allowing even the mc with little game knowledge be able to understand what is needed
finishing 50 words finishing 50 words finishing 50 words finishing 50 words finishing 50 words finishing 50 words - 333796951Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really fun story. I think a lot of litrpgs on this site struggle with long term goals because of the xianxia influence, but this one has a clear end point, a fairly engaging mystery to follow, and a fun addictive system of progression, which is pretty crucial in this genre.
I really like the way that leveling works in this story, I think it will hopefully keep each level engaging as the story progresses and the protagonist gets farther along, though it may also lead to level ups getting very far apart, which makes the story a little less engaging as the addictiveness quality disappears. Purchasing skills is a pretty fun idea that adds some fun to the usual free stat point per level way of doing things.
The premise is pretty interesting too, though I think at least so far the world isn't really drawing me in, maybe because revealing the source of the system this early on, even if it has some mystery behind it, feels like it limits the scope. That said, I'll reserve judgement on that until things are a little further because I think it's fairly likely that more will be revealed that changes that.
I would say that the prose is fairly bland and a bit too easy to skim without missing much, but it's functional and still obviously had some thought put into it.
It is also hard to give a fair review to the character work this early on as the protagonist hasn't even really begun a character arc and the only other character is purposefully not characterful, so keep that in mind as you read.
And thanks for the story if you're reading this, author! - BobCharlieRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'll start this review off by saying that I am terrible at writing reviews, but I have had the privilege of reading pretty far ahead on this story.
AND IT IS EXCELLENT!
I was hooked from the very first paragraph, and I eagerly anticipate new chapters. Due to this fact, I will be reviewing the story, while simultaneously avoiding spoils.
EmergencyComplaints' writing style is one of my favorites. The man has a knack for telling an engaging story. Even the most complex information is told in such an entertaining, intelligent, and crisp manner that even for a dummy like me it is not only a pleasure to read, but it's easily digestible. I'm not sure how to explain it, but it boils down to being detailed, but not overcooked, action packed, oftentimes humorous, and damn near impossible to put down.
Without giving any spoils, I will go out on a limb and say that at the rate this story is progressing, it is my honest opinion that The God Machine will surely stand at the top among Lit-RPG series. Not only is it engaging, but with the amount of world building that unfolds, and the meticulous detail put into every aspect of the story, I literally have zero complaints. And the System itself!!! Hands down the best reason for the existence of a System that I have energy come across!
The Grammar is top-notch. The author is obviously talented. And the editing is so clean you could eat off it.
As for the characters, this is another area where I have to be careful. So I'll stick with our bat wielding, Skull cracking MC. Luke Bennet is both an extremely likeable, and well-put-together character. He has goals and aspirations of course, but he has a fun personality. He is serious when he needs to be, and very good at thinking things through, but he's not afraid to show emotion, nor is he adverse to admitting when he's in over his head. Luke is willing to put in the work and get his hands dirty to do what needs to be done, but he isn't a mindless level gaining machine. What he does, he doe - Cleo143Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of the most wonderful chapters that I have read! It was easy to relate to the character's thoughts and feelings. There is romance, drama, laughter, suspense and adventure too! Characters from a fictitious world has come alive and became as real as they can be. I am a fan and I can't wait to read the next chapters.
- DeikonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A very enjoyable read. I loved all three books. I liked Luke and his family very much and mixed Relationships are fine!
I found this book to be very enjoyable. The system made sense the way things worked out, especially in book 3 was very good. Very glad it was books one two and three instead of books 1 through 28. My intention span loves you author. Thank you so much! Aunt - KittyBoop27Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been hooked on Ascendant since it started, and even though I've never read another litrpg style story, I very much enjoy this one and the set up of it. It gives you enough of the family background to keep you wondering what in god's name has happened to his family?!
The story progression is enough to keep me interested but not too fast that I feel like I'm missing key elements. I appreciate that there's both humor but also shows how brutal this world truly is, and I can't wait to see what happens through the main characters progression. - LiamT2468Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Exciting story, good take on system, great pacing, MC doesn't take 400 chapters to feel relevant but isn't instantly op and has to deal with real problems.
Also a balanced take on killing: MC doesn't wallow about how hard killing is for 40 chapters but also isn't a total psychopath. - ValinPopsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0How do you review this without spoilers? So the 'system' is more than it seems, and serves a purpose other than what it seems. Leveling can kill you, and if it doesn't others will kill you for leveling. But the mc would be killed anyway, because he exists.
Not sure what I'm talking about?
Read The God Machine - 06rockstarRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Okay let me just say this right here and now. The book? Great! I really enjoy it and some of the mystery behind stuff. Also numbers get bigger. However! The MC is not genre savvy, or the most critical thinking kind of guy. He's gotten better over time, so there is growth, but if you're easily annoyed by an MC that is consistently not always making the right choices, please still read but don’t comment lol
- RoccandilRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The opening survival arc was enjoyable. The MC is clearly out of his element, but adapts well and gets a decent build. The ecosystem of the valley is interesting and well thought out, and I like the explanation of the powerful monster that befriends the MC.
Once the MC escapes the valley and reaches the city, however, the story began to fall apart for me, and I've noticed that pattern in other LitRPG. Perhaps cities distract from the narrowbound pacing of surviving, leveling, theorycrafting, and exploiting a build? Another possibility, of course, is that it's just personal preference:, I've never really liked the city segments in video game RPGs, either. I associate RPG cities with chores: selling, buying, getting quests, turning in quests, storage, resting, and so on. Dungeons are where the fun is. :)
In this case, however, the story also has a twist that caused me to stop reading:
The System and the leveling process become the enemy. I enjoy LitRPG precisely because of Systems and leveling, so making that a problem tells me I shouldn't read the story. :(
