Description
In the Eburnean Kingdom, power isn’t inherited—it’s stolen.Nikolai knows better than anyone.
Exiled to the brutal borderlands, he's spent years carefully plotting against the queen who ripped his family apart and stole his brother’s throne. He will see his brother restored to power, no matter the cost.
And then his stepmother ruins everything… by sending him awife!
TheRaven General is a warrior first, a princess second, and a proper lady never. She’s the heir to a ruthless clan, a decorated war hero, and the kind who settles disputes with her sword.
The general does not curtsy. She does not play nice.
They were never supposed to meet. They werecertainlynever supposed to marry.
Romance has no place in a world like theirs. Not to mention, Nikolai has a revolution to plan, and his wife is a serious risk to... pretty much everything.
Unfortunately, there is a fine, fineline between love and bloodshed.
And they seemverydetermined to test it.

- Easton MulhollandRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is set up like a fantasy romance, but it deserves a fair review. And, it is not, however, pure romance; there’s political intrigue that has been explained well. We get misdirection and omission from side characters and rumor and to keep our interest, and that is also fun to read. Although, the best parts thus far are the antics of the couple. A story like this is always trying to balance the hidden with the obvious. And, as with many stories of this kind, it’s all about sitcom-like humor.
We’re definitely playing with gender tropes and gender norms for comedic effect in this one, so if that’s not your cup of tea, you should probably skip it. Shakespeare would approve. Thus, I am sipping quietly in the corner, hopeful for the next chapter.
Edit: I’ve added a star, and removed a prior critique on the writing. The latest chapters have undeniable polish and skill, and the story has developed epic qualities. - ReallyObnoxiouslyLongNameRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0TL;DR
A very interesting story. I can't think of any major issues that it suffers from.
Style
The style is good, clear and concise. Works well for the story. I've started rating clear style as on par with more poetic style because there are a lot of times where I find the more plain style preferable.
Grammar
The grammar is good. No glaring errors, no spelling mistakes that I noticed.
Characters
The characters are good. We don't get to see much about the villains other than them being villainous, so they are a bit one dimensional, but I don't see that as a big issue personally. Even if it were a problem, there's still plenty of time for the author to add some more depth if it's needed. There are some characters that are more multi-dimensional, so I'm not too worried.
I haven't seen characters act out of character without good reason, so that's a massive plus.
The main characters offer an interesting role reversal. I'll admit that I prefer normal roles, but the author has handled their dynamics very well so far. Neither of them is incompetent, stupid, or weak, and I find both of them compelling for different reasons.
Story
Great. I like it. I can't think of any glaring issues, nor does it suffer from any overused premises. So far it's a good love story and an interesting political story.
The love story is a bit of a slow burn, which I'm totally cool with. The characters involved, and the circumstances which surround them practically demand this kind of treatment. I'd actually have an issue if it weren't a slow burn, as it would seem a bit too farfetched.
Final Thoughts
I'm reviewing this story having read all of the chapters that are available, so I don't know what's in store for the future of this story. However, from what's been presented so far, I'm very optimistic.
Have a wonderful day.
