    The world and its 'system' are one of the more original and compelling I've encountered in the genre. The introduction to new concepts can be a bit bewildering initially (as is normal in fantasy settings), but are explained contextually and then explicitly at a well thought out pace as we, and the characters, learn more.
    The characters themselves are very likeable (even some of the antagonists!) and I enjoyed watching them develop over their journeys of self discovery, with their interactions and banter.
    The action, being based on real historical fighting techniques, is especially visceral and engaging.
