Description
Once, we stood tall. The Griffin Flock soared above the rest. We were to be the best group in the guild. We had the cards, but the flop was unkind, we couldn’t wait for the turn, and it was too late to fold.
I, Taros, was the lone survivor of the expedition into that place… the Luna Forest.
I thought I could live on, avenge them, silence the gnawing question that never ceases in my mind:Why do you struggle?
I could never find the answer, but perhaps I could now. Perhaps the game wasn’t done after all, or perhaps I just hadn’t learnt my lesson—for I would never fold.
Chapters to be released monthly, with exception of the first three chapters.

- ThornveilRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is my analysis thus far for the first three revised chapters.
In short, it’s really solid. The narrator is in first person, so it feels very intimate. I didn’t quite expect how the narrator handles close-death encounters, which I found very eerie. The MC, Taros, has depth. He’s not generic at all. You can clearly see progression as you read, with more things slowly being revealed about him over time, which I really like.
So far, where I left off, the secondary characters all have unique voices and carry the weight of their own stories. Again, this is a party of five so far. The world feels brutal, and the fights are intense. In this setting, earning your next bread takes real effort.
So far, in terms of variety, let’s call them animals or monsters, it looks like there will be many more introduced in the future. As of chapter 3, I think I counted four. Still, it’s interesting to see how the party members fight against different types of monsters and the strategies they apply to essentially kill them.
For my fellow readers, if you’re reading this review to see whether this story is a waste of your time, I don’t think it is. If this is your cup of tea based on the above, you’ll likely be hooked. Kudos to the author. I can tell a lot of work went into this.
