The First Sage

Magic is on the rise and the government's answer has been vampires for centuries so why are drones suddenly killing mages? When Atom finds a vampire chased by wolves out in the woods he goes against what is logical and practical to save her.  Before they can escape a ball of Mythril falls out of the sky and starts shooting lasers aiming for the girl in his hands. Why would the government send its new mage killer drones to wipe out its most loyal soldiers?
