The First Great Game: A LitRPG/Harem sci-fantasy series eBook

Mason the survivalist was always preparing for the end of the world. He just didn’t expect a god-like AI to transform it into a damn video game.

Now he has to pick a‘class’, survive a ‘tutorial’ (filled with monstrous creatures trying to murder him), and somehow find his brother Blake before the idiot gets himself killed.

OK. Blake’s no idiot. He’s a charming, incredibly lucky, ambitious world-beater. But he was destined for corporate boardrooms, not monster filled forests, and Mason knows he needs to reach him before it’s too late.

But as he claws his way through this new, dangerous world, gaining superhuman abilities and meeting a beautiful woman who desperately needs his help, he begins to realize: it just might be the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

I usually don't follow stories with xianxia, male MC's, or harems- as they tend to devolve into weird ham-fisted wish fulfilment fantasies that are more off-putting and logic breaking than entertaining.
So far this story is pretty fun, the two MC's are well thought out- and terrifying in their own rights. You can see a pair of brothers acting this way, and why they seem to make the choices they do.
From what I have noticed, reading other reviews and seeing myself- the author reads his comments and interacts with his audience. Some plot lines seem to have been changed, characters reworked a tad, and humor thrown in just because.
If you're a fan of progression with some action and a bit of adult action- definitely dive in.

The First Great Game has multiple different things that I enjoy from this genre, and I suspect that I won't be alone in that.
Firstly, I enjoy it when a System isn't described a perfect unknowable overgod. As the title suggests, this is the shot the intelligence behind this System has tried, and it's obvious. It's very clearing making it up as it goes along, and I enjoy that. I feel like it lends an air of believability to a LitRPG when a System isn't perfect.
Secondlly, I appreciate the theme of brother hood this story is going for. Maybe it's because I'm just coming off of playing FF16, but I enjoy it when a story has such a clear cut initial motivation. Find your brother, save your brother, face the world. The fact the author seems to be going with a sort of dual protagonist route with Mason and Blake is interesting as well. You don't see that often.
Thirdly, the skill of the author is evident. It's very obvious that he has experience in writing, and it shows in the quality. Nothing jumps out at you as egregious, and it flows very well.
Finally, if you're looking for a new LitRPG to follow with plenty of action, look no further. The action seems like it's going to be front and center with The First Great Game. This author is clearly not afraid of a little combat in their fiction. Expect plenty of murderhoboing in the future, I think.
    You should check it out!

The smut is hidden under spoiler tags so you can just read past it if you would like.
I originally skipped past this story cause of the harem. but now I’m kinda disappointed parts were removed(sex scenes)
I binged all the way here without running into any walls
Not sure why that other review has rape not a thing (I think, you get my meaning if you read).
personally proffered his choices and logic over his other options but that’s dependent on what your into really
He’s a survivalist as stated in the summery (not his actual class, just using the word)
oh yeah no, smuts great really ties everything together also the harems barely a harem not like the shitty manga ones where there 50 people. I known people in real life worse then this. Tho they are dislikable unlike the main character.
edit: okay does have maybe a tad to much horny energy but what can ya do

Really good story.  Only down side is not enough chapters.  Highly recommend the story.  Good plot so far and really good mc.  No idiot. Woot woot.  Dialog is good,  snu snu is good.  Nothing to complain about minus not being able to bing read this story for a week. But stable chapters so it's close enough

Exactly what I was looking for.  Great world building with a cool take on the litrpg genre.  Most systems just appear but the reason for this one is a nice approach.
The dynamic between Mason and Blake is great and the way they both have completely different approaches to survival is an awesome take. I dont like Blake's approach but in a world where survival is on the line and you don't have fighting skills then you do what you have to do.  It's easy for readers not faced with extinction to judge him.  Mason is a beast and I completely connected with his character from the beginning. I'm totally and fully invested in every situation he finds himself in.
The harem develops naturally and doesn't inflate to a point where you can't even remember their names.  Each of the girls has a distinct personality and they don't get lost in the crowd.
I made a profile just to tell you I appreciate your work on this novel. I look forward to every update. Every work I've read in the same genre ends up off the rails at some point or with characters somehow losing themselves and acting completely different.  Excited to see where this one goes.

I sat here in my old, creaking office chair, trying to think of a catchy opening line to begin my review of The First Great Game, but all I could think of was: ‘What ability will Mason choose next?’, ‘Will Blake succumb to the temptations of the new power he wields?’ and ‘Will Mona realize what’s really going on with her newfound friend?’.  And that, dear reader, is the truth of it. I’m addicted. Instead of writing, I kept wanting to read more of our two protagonists as they toil, grow, and learn to survive in a new world rife with monsters and challenges that keep you clicking Next Chapter.
The author, PierceGrey, has sculpted a Masterpiece of LitRPG fiction, which I genuinely believe sets a new standard of quality for the genre. You should stop reading this review and go read the book. If that’s not enough, I’ll expand on why I highly recommend The First Great Game below.
The style is smooth and polished. The easy-on-the-eyes prose is like the first drink of refreshing, ice-cold coffee (or water, we don’t judge here) after trekking through the desert in the blistering sun. The descriptive language brings vivid scenery and visceral action to life with the ease of an experienced artist.
The story is an intriguing take on a familiar comfort, yet completely original in foundation and execution. The well-loved trope of the ‘system’ has been reinvented and given life by the author (I will refrain from elaborating why, as I believe the Prologue deserves a read with virgin eyes). As of Chapter 9, we have a clear, mid-term goal in sight with another long-term objective being hinted toward. The work has everything we love about LitRPGs and none of the drawbacks.
Grammar and spelling were what I perceived to be flawless. Our author is a professional, and it shows in the quality and attention to detail.
The characters. I thought this would be the easiest part of the review, but I was mistaken. There were too many elements that I wanted to include, so in order to keep this rev

This is a new genre and experience for me but I stumbled across this story and have really enjoyed it. I have blazed through the story in no time and found myself kind of disappointed that there isn't more for me to dive into.
Without any spoilers what I'll say thus far is that I find the gamification of the story to be sound and entertaining - you look forward to the next level. I also find that the characters are realistic. It isn't just an "I've been lost my whole life and now I'm at home" sort of thing but there are different characters with varying backgrounds and experiences. The theme is interesting if a bit jarring to go from the city setting straight into a story of jungle atmosphere.
This far in my read Mason's story is a lot more developed than Blake's so it's tough to say what's going on with that side and that maybe leaves me more interested in Mason chapters than Blake chapters but I suspect that will change as time goes on.
Lastly I'd just comment that the writing itself is very high quality. It has a flow and a good idea of how to tell a story and keep your engaged. It's what you find from published authors so it's nice to see that in this format too.
Overall I'd say this is an entertaining read and a good intro into the genre if you're like me!

This is the first time I have seen a LitRPG have the "system” in its infancy. That alone makes this work something to watch going forward, because how that is built and how the system and players work together or against each other will make or break this story. The LitRPG part of the story is done quite well, we have classes, powers, stats. But none of those take up the majority of the story, they are a facet of the story rather than the focus. The two main characters don't have a drive to level up, or gain power, or many of the other types of foci that you might see in other stories. However, each is doing so in a different manner from the other. It will be interesting when they meet up again, two brothers with vastly different personalities, in all the ways that matter to the story.
That aside, the story has sexual activity in it, in fact one might say that is one of the core tenants of the story, which is pretty well thought out and incorporated in a way that is natural. The dual perspective is also novel and difficult to pull off, but so far it has worked in spades. Overall, this is a story that I will come back day after day in the hopes of reading more and seeing more of this universe as it is being built from the ground up.

What do we love in our isekai series? Traveling to another world? Systems? Adventure? A powerfull god that medles with humanity for a goal that will have humanity figthing for their life in a end of the world scenario?
Yes. Does this one have all of those? Of course.
    What else do you need?
This one has no problems on the pacing nor the style. And I like those multiple pov character leads so yeah. Go for it

Overall the story is fine. The author is actually pretty good at pacing (although all system apocalypse litrpg style stories usually start in a hectic fashion) and manages to get the story going decently well.
The problem with the story I have is the two main characters.
One of them is very much a prepper character that is finally experiencing the apocalypse they spent their whole life preparing for. This character is honestly fine. If you've read many other litrpg apocalypse stories you'll feel comfortable with him. He's very much in line with your friendly neighbourhood primal hunter named Jake.
The other main character so far is a psychopathic monster who likes to rape people.
I know that this character choice is viable in a story. I mean people like that exist in reality and are often major characters throughout history. I just don't personally really want to read a story where so much screen time is devoted to living inside the head of this monster.
I am assuming based on the first few chapters that the story decisions so far with these characters means we will see lots of Mr Psycho and have to watch as he pretends to other people and himself that he is a good person.
Maybe the intent is to showcase the decent into evil and depravity that power will often cause when given to individuals who don't have unwavering morals or intensely strong wills. It could end up being a great story. I just personally don't have the will to devote a lot of time reading a story where that character is so front and center.
I wish the author the best in his story writing. This just isn't the story for me.
