Description

A missing skyship.

As the empire’s most beloved adventurer—or most successful raconteur—Senesio doesn’t want much. Wealth beyond measure, fame beyond reason, and a small kingdom somewhere warm should be about enough. When a skyship goes missing on expedition, Senesio knows there’s no better opportunity to add to his living legend.

An expedition gone awry.

Suni is enamored with the wonders—and dangers—of the Far Wild. As a naturalist’s apprentice, she’s studied every book and expedition report about the miraculous wilderness. But with her mentor missing on an expedition, Suni sets aside the Far Wild of ink and paper to venture after him into the primordial jungle.

The most dangerous wilderness known to man.

With unexpected enemies above and monstrous predators in the jungles below, it’s up to Senesio, Suni, and their companions to uncover the truth of what’s happening in the Far Wild. It’s a revelation that will shake the empire to its core and reshape the lives of all involved—assuming, of course, they don’t all get eaten first.

What to expect:A swashbuckling hero, a timid scholar, and their crewmates trapped in a man-eating jungle. Big predators, a big mystery, and one ego bigger than them all.

Well written and well edited, The Far Wild is a gripping adventure story. The characters are well defined and stylishly realised, with Senesio being an obvious standout (I love Suni too though). The Far Wild itself (and it’s denizens) makes for a fantastic character (and antagonist) in its own right. Suni’s POV really brings it to life due to her ability to comment on the ecology as a naturalists apprentice. I think the diversity of backgrounds in POV characters results in the far wild being perceived vastly differently by each of them.
The plot is relatively straightforward (I.e. not overly complex) however it is extremely tightly paced with frequent escalation of the stakes. I have found it compelling and exciting.
Overall, a great book which should definitely have more traction here on RR.

Man, Senesio is the right kind of rogue. Dashing, witty, and with the best sprinkling of self-importance.
The Far Wild begins with the daring exploits of our first MC, establishing Senesio as a lovable adventurer with practiced ease. His speech, inner monologues and actions are expertly woven to deliver a polished image of the intrepid raconteur that I look forward to reading more of.
The world's responses to his antics are a humourous contrast to the view he fields of himself, yet accepted with a brand of begrudging ennui that promises that not all tales told are as tall as Senesio's character would have you believe.
To balance this, we have the more rational, budding researcher Suni, an aspiring naturalist whose earnest desire to further her field of study aligns their trajectories as fate conspires to send them deeper into the frontier beyond their town.
With hog-sized scorpions, airships and a sprinkling of espionage in the opening chapters, the story's pace breezes forward as we glean more information about the troubles they are soon to face.
Mr Knight shows his prowess here in perfect balance, blending immediate character depth and momentum to have your thumbs sore from clicking "Next Page" to find out what daring exploits our Senesio will perform next.
    TLDR:
    Setting - Savage frontier.
    Characters - Realistic, imminently likeable.
    Airships - Airships.
    Grammar/Prose - Excellent.

This story is amazing and is one of the few stories I have read that has done multiple POVs really well. The characters are all really well done and the story itself is excellent, my only gripe is that Senesio takes a while to really prove himself, but I think that just made the moment when he did all the more impactful.

Loved it! Fun and heartfelt adventure from start to finish. Good pacing, I never felt like I wanted to put it down. The characters were likable and interesting and fit the world well.
The world itself was like another character, it felt like you saw the tip of the iceberg in the best way. I'm looking forward to future books in the universe!

A captivating story of adventure mixed with action and science fiction. A fun theme of biology and nature, and a suspenseful tale of friends and comrades as they make their own fortune and create their own destiny. Hilarious at times, somber and existential at others, an excellent and well-paced story throughout. Exciting to the last page!
