Overall: What I enjoy about The Fallen Gods is the fast pace. Right at the start, you know the stakes, the enemies, the conflicts, and the schemas. It somehow summarizes the theme of the novel: the Abyss. Not only as a real place but metaphorically too. In the first chapters, we read how people's schemes against a child for power rise, which makes you question, who is the true villain there? A demon? Surely, but somehow I found a person that does that worse than a demon.
Style: The prose is good to read. The chapter length is short; we can imagine the scenes easily and the actions too. It's straightforward, and that makes the reader advance chapter after chapter to know more about what will happen.
Grammar: Excellent. Good variation of structure and sentences. I didn't spot anything wrong.
Characters: We have a plethora of characters, from gods to demons to humans. Some are well-crafted that you can easily remember; others will take time in the story to develop better. The main character, until chapter 10, is still a child/teenager, so I can't grasp her way yet, but she already displayed a strong personality, and we can imagine how things will develop in her view. And the story does something interesting, showing the villain actively interested right at the start in the main character. I'm curious to see how things will develop.
Story: We have the cliche of good vs. evil and the usage of demons, such as Belial and so on. But what I like most is the different approach toward them. We also read their side, their own conflicts, and their view of their master. And since the 'good gods' are basically "dead," and the hope resides in Athena, we actively read the spread of evil between humans. And the fast pace helps it by advancing time and conflicts.
If you enjoy stories that evolve around demons, races, and the concept of the Abyss, I highly recommend it. The chapters are shor
