- BattyBabiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’m so excited to see where this story leads! The world is very captivating and the characters are both unsettling and highly likable at the same time. The chapters feel a little short and rushed in the beginning but the way the timeline of events are placed in chapters works extremely well. I will definitely be following along for more!
- SKNit3Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story is very easy to ready so far in my honest opinion. The words for each chapter are short, but it is understandable as to why. I just started reading the book and I have not really gone far but it already captivating. I will give my honest review based on what I have seen so far. I will also try to be as fair and respectful as possible.
Style: The style in the story could be greatly improved. The transition between chapters could be done better. I feel like I am in one scene in the first chapter and then in the next chapter, I'm like, "Wait... what exactly happened?" Of course, the story is still very easy to follow, but the pacing is rushed. Take your time to really allow the reader to digest everything that is happening. But once again, that is just my opinion. Others could have other views. I also feel like the dialogue could be made clearer.
Story and Character: The story is excellent. Like amazing. A solid 4.5 stars definitely. I love the main character, Alo. I also appreciate the fact that the graphic violence is properly placed and not just some gore fest throughout the story. The premise hooks the reader and does not let go. It was thrilling. And the story has a lot of potential. Can't wait to see the direction the story goes to next. The characters are 3-dimensional and properly fleshed out. Especially Alo, which is understandable because he is the MC.
Grammar: The grammar was good. However, some punctuation marks were removed. But they are not easily noticeable and can easily be fixed. Other than that, the grammar is clear and concise.
Overall: It is a truly great and interesting read. I would highly recommend it. - Old-Tailed-FoxzRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The Face of the Fall has been an exciting read, and I have caught up on all the chapters. We have a druid Alo who's on a quest with his companion Iris, these two are the characters we follow through the story so far. We have some flashbacks dedicated to full chapters that break up the pacing and confused me. I already spoke to the author about it. But the flash backs are fun, add to the world building, and make you curious about Alo and his dedication. Alo is fun because he's old, strong, and has a reputation that strikes fear into people's hearts. Iris his companion we don't get to learn much about but we get one flags back dedicated to her and I appreciated that. Alo is perfect he seems to have a dark lass hidden beneath is calm and druid demeanor. I hope in future endeavors we get to learn more of Iris and how she met Alo. Honestly try the story out it has potential the author hasn't been written story for a long period. I see the potential in this and I'll keep following along to see where Alo and Iris go next time.
- UgarrsvenothRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Style: For starters, the chapters are very short, especially the first one, which is only a paragraph long. I don't mind their length, but I feel like there is room for more to be done, as well as a chance to tie each chapter together.
Story: Story-wise, I'm still not entirely sure what's going on. Not much has happened, which I'm actually okay with, but it's mainly that I don't know why the characters are doing what they're doing. Why does Alo have to visit the Lord? What is stopping him from living a peaceful life with his wife? I'm sure this stuff will be explained in time, but I don't see much of a driving force behind the characters' actions.
Grammar: There were a few problems here and there that I made sure to point out in the comment section. There was also the occasional problem with tense and sentence length, but I can't really be the one to complain about it since I make the exact same mistakes all the time.
Character: Like I said before, I don't really see what is driving Alo to do the things he does. I know what he wants, but not why he has to do what he's doing. His personality is alright, if a bit too campy at the very beginning, He very much seemed like a typical wacky villain at the beginning when he destroyed the camp, but it changed very quickly after that. I also don't know why Iris is going along with him. I can see that she wants revenge but after Alo said this in chapter 3:
"I'm saying my dear Iris, I could have left anytime I wanted to, it was nothing to me, I simply needed you to begin to care for me. I knew if you did you'd follow me into the depths of hell, and that's exactly where we are headed my dear, straight to hell. You have the option of either escaping with me or dying with them. I'm fine with either but I would prefer if you came with me because I need your strength and I need someone who can confirm my story. The Nightcrawlers died fighting for the good of the kingdom and only we escaped.”
I don't see why she would trust and follo - V.J.DaranRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story follow the journey of a powerful druid, Alo, and an elven woman with many secrets, Iris.
Story:
What I like the most of this book is the actual story. The world, plot, and character development is generally quite good and is definitely the biggest strength that this story has. The only criticism I have about the story is the pacing. Some parts of the story felt too rushed where they could have been explored more, where as others had the opposite problem. This should be worked on.
Character:
Probably my next favourite thing about this story are the characters and character development. The MC has clear motivations and while on his journey, we can see him get more depth to his personality, which is pretty cool.
Style:
This novel follows quite an atypical style of extremely short chapters. This may or may not be your thing, but I can understand why the author's done it, so I don't have any problems with it. The only issue I have with writing style is that the descriptions are sometimes not very clear and makes it a bit difficult to visualise what's going on. There's also a lot of telling rather than showing, which makes makes the writing less engaging that it could be. There's also room to improve on in terms of varying paragraph and sentence use.
That said, I think the writing style improves with the chapters though, and later chapters used paragraphs better so it will improve if you're patient with it, hence the 4*.
Grammar:
My biggest issue with the story is the grammar, especially punctuation. Spelling is generally fine, but punctuation is the issue. It is often incorrectly used or unused, which occurs in almost every other paragraph. But most of the errors regarding punctuation is basically the same error all the time, so I think the author just may not be aware of certain punctuation rules so they keep making the same mistake over and over.
There are also extremely long sentences with no commas or full stops, which not only makes it difficult to read, b
