Description
In the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse, Ash and Eve are thrust together by necessity, but survival isn’t their only battle. Ash, stubbornly clinging to hope, is everything Eve refuses to be—soft, trusting, a reminder of a world long gone. Eve, hardened by loss and haunted by her past, knows better than to let anyone in. As they clash at every turn, their biggest threat isn’t the undead lurking in the shadows—it’s the slow, undeniable pull between them. In a world where trust is a weakness and love feels like a loaded gun, will they survive each other, or will their own hearts be their downfall?

- BlastedtomooshRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Zombies are my jam. Like, seriously. Attended Zombie-Con, met Max Brooks and George A. Romero, and have consumed dozens of zombies books, films and shows over the last couple decades.
While falling in love during the zombie apocalypse isn't necessarily new, so far I'm sucked in. Eve is giving Michonne from The Walking Dead vibes which I always appreciate, and Ash looks like our standard afraid of her own shadow stiff upper lip protagonist, but the writing is giving these characters life and building on those archetypes into what looks like something new.
We're still early in the story, but based on what has happened so far I think we have a lot of environmental vibes and relationship building to look forward to. Assuming the story maintains its current style and intentions, I'm rating it 5 stars. - RangerDanger21Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’m seriously hooked on this series. It’s so hard to find a good WLW story with zombies, and this one delivers on everything I love—tension, action, and just the right amount of angst. Ash and Eve’s dynamic is so frustrating in the best way. They’re both stubborn as hell, constantly butting heads, but you can feel the underlying pull between them. It makes every interaction tense and addictive, and I can’t wait to see how their relationship evolves.
The world-building is also spot-on. It’s gritty and intense without being over-explained, and the way the horror isn’t just about the zombies but also the human threats? Yeah, that’s exactly what I want in a post-apocalyptic story. Every chapter keeps me on edge, and I love how survival feels real and nothing comes easy, and you can really tell every decision matters.
This story has so much potential, seriously I can’t wait to read more! I’m hooked on the intensity of the story and the way each chapter builds on the last. The writing is gripping, the atmosphere is haunting, and the characters feel raw and real. It’s been a while since I’ve found a story that keeps me this engaged, and I’m eager to see how everything unfolds. Definitely looking forward to the next update!
