- DaoTianRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Essence Flow is a totally awesome fantasy read! This book is set in a world where people have this special energy called "Essentia" that they can learn to control. It follows two brothers, Towan and Elliot, as they train with their super cool master to compete in a big tournament.
The main problem would be the number of words per chapter.
But the story unfolds through engaging chapters, each presenting a new challenge or revelation that pushes the characters and the plot forward.
Style: The writing style is immersive, with vivid descriptions that bring the world and characters to life. The author skillfully blends action, dialogue, and introspection, creating a balanced and engaging narrative.
Story: The plot is well-paced, with a clear progression from the initial training arc to the challenges encountered on the journey to the tournament. The introduction of mysterious elements like corrupted Essentia and ancient ruins hints at a larger conflict brewing in the background, adding depth and suspense to the story.
Grammar: The grammar and punctuation are excellent, contributing to a smooth and enjoyable reading experience.
Characters: Towan and Elliot are well-developed characters with distinct personalities and motivations. Towan is impulsive and eager to prove himself, while Elliot is more cautious and analytical. Their interactions and growth throughout the story are believable and relatable. - Wizardly DudeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you're a fan of stories that take martial arts and melee combat, and combine them with a system similar to chi, than this will be a good choice for you to read!
Story: The story goes step by step, following two brothers as they train under their martial arts master. You get to watch them grow from the very beginning, learning to enhance their bodies with the mysterious essence and slowly transform themselves from beginners to what I can only assume will eventually be true masters. It looks like we get a tournament arc rather early on, which is something I'm always a fan of!
Style: The author writes smaller chapters, but puts out quite a lot of them, so it doesn't real feel all that different.
Grammar: Solid grammar, didn't notice any issues here!
Character: The main characters are quick studies that seem to learn everything extremely quickly, and they play off of one another rather well. I'm always a fan of a wise old grandmaster style character, so their master is also enjoyable to read.
All in all, if you like martial arts, training arcs, and mysterious old masters, I'd say this is definitely a story to check out! - ZacheasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is about two young martial artists and their master setting out on a journey to train, grow and become a better team. This is a world with a unique approach to chi like magic. They start out learning with the goal of improving themselves and testing their metal but before long they find themselves drawn into a far more serious conflict with many lives on the line. These boys, their master and the allies they make along the way will come face to face with a shadowy enemy.
Storyline: The story is exciting and action packed story with very short chapters. The story includes enough action, mystery and tension to keep the reader hitting next. At times i did think a few events were to convenient... but it wasn't a big problem.
Story building: the story mostly evolves around the MC and not a lot about the world but the there seems to be some history around the main big bad guy.
spelling and grammar: the author did a great job in the category. i did not find any issues.
pacing: this story excelled in pacing and engagement which are great for webnovels.
overall this was a fun read. it was also a fast read with such short chapters. You should definitely give it a read. - SuperscribeFromTheQuasiFutureRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Towan and Elliot's relationship is enjoyable, given their unique approaches to Essentia, making their dynamic feel natural. Towan's impatience is such a contrast to Elliot's more thoughtful method.
The narrative seems well-packed with exciting challenges that drive the characters to develop on a physical and mental level. The way in which their training experiences are related to real-life scenarios is just wow.
The conversation flows well and adds layers to the characters. You know, like, Towan is brash and Elliot thinks before he speaks with some quality. There is a good balance between comedic moments such as Towan's excitement about the tournament and joking about Elliot, lessons in managing control, teamwork, and being adaptable. I especially loved his comment about the wolves being superstitious.
The pacing is strong, and every next challenge feels like a step towards character development. Their guidance from the master, while often cryptic and tough, is shaping up to be part and parcel of the story, especially the little surprises he throws in (like jumping over the river).
This might just be my personal opinion but some of the action sequences, especially the parts where Towan and Elliot learn how to manage their Essentia, would be more effective if they contained a little more of the heroes' internal struggles or thoughts. While Towan's bravado and Elliot's calmness complement each other quite nicely, there could have been slightly more info on how these differences affect their long-term relationship. A little bit more of that internal conflict could serve to enrich their dynamic. - Orion's HeraldRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The Essence Flow. The author has aptly titled the story, to say the least. We immediately get into the flow of things with our MCs training in their dojo. The situation is very much a story in miniature, as it gives you the general premise of what this will be about. Two boys refining their combat skills as they learn more about the world. Throw in some hijinks and mystery and you have your cake.
And the cake is good, though there are some things I would do differently. First, I would defiantly pick a main POV character, and if needed switch between them. I think this would help to give the characters more personality. Right now, we are missing the introspection you need to really bring them home and they kind of feel a little flat. But again, POV and introspection would add a lot.
In summary, there is a lot of telling, and not enough showing. Which is understandable, for a beginner author, so I have confidence it will improve with time. Though one thing the author does really well is the development of their power system. You get a sense that they know where they want to go with it and have thought it through. The story is worth the read just to see that in action.
Moving on to the Grammer: Nothing dragged me out of the story so I can’t complain on that front so it’s an easy 5 for me. Others may say otherwise, but I didn’t see it so.
The style of writing was simple and could use a bit of work, especially in the showing department. But like I said earlier, it is something that will no doubt improve with time.
Overall, it’s a solid read with wonderful concepts. It just needs some polish to really pop.
