The End of an Aeon

Description

An idealised world populated by ageless spirits built on a broken history. It is an Aeon's sacred duty to safeguard their Sphere and their people, but some shadows are not so easily forgotten. The future is shifting, but what happens to a world that was never meant to change?

The nine Spheres thrive in a timeless harmony, separated by the infinite Void but bound together by the endless power of the Source. A peaceful unchanging utopia populated daeva, ageless spirits born of thought and possessing incredible potential, the well-structured worlds thrive in the golden protection of their Aeons. The Golden Legend is a thoughtful reminder of the value of the King’s guidance. The tragic history of the Shattering of the Old Kingdom is relegated to allegory by all.

The Aeons themselves see it differently, however. Each one an aspect of the Source contained in an individual and charged with the power of maintaining their Word, the Aeons see the world somewhat differently than their daeva counterparts. When the Aeon of the ninth Sphere has a vision of an apocalyptic darkness threatening their carefully constructed peace, her determination to change this grim future sets in motion a chain of events that will forever alter the very nature of their world. At the centre of it all is Michael, the Aeon of Hod and the son of the King. After an unexpected upset in the balance of power, Michael must learn to make peace with himself to reconcile what has been with what is in search of the truth, all while navigating the plans and ambitions of his fellows.

I found this gem over on Fictionpress and followed it here. It seems to be on hiatus at the time of this review, but in my opinion the writing is solid enough to merit reading in spite of that.
Style: What comes across to me when reading this story is "Great glory and grandeur." Whether it's the narrative or dialogue between characters I feel like I'm treading sacred ground whenever I enter the world this author has created. Granted, there is trouble brewing, but even there it feels like there is appropriately cosmic weight to the disturbances. 5 stars.
Story: The first chapter threw me a little bit and I wasn't sure what to make of the situation, but by the end of the second chapter/beginning of the third, I was getting the hang of the new fantasy terminology and where everyone fit in the picture. I feel some aspects of the worldbuilding need explanation earlier in the story, but overall I think the author has done a good job with this. 4.5 stars.
Grammar: Ya done good, fam. 5 stars.
Character: The two characters that stand out the most to me are the main character Michael and the mysterious Raphael. Michael has plenty on his plate. He is clearly a high-level being, but he's subordinate to at least one or two levels on a strict hierarchy which leaves him thoroughly torn when orders contradict what he feels to be right. His inner conflict is on display, as are both his weaknesses and his strengths. He seems to be a pretty well-balanced character and quite likeable. Easy to empathize with and root for him.
Raphael is someone I'm drawn to, but I'm unsure of whether to trust her or not. I empathize with her damage and am hungry to know more of her story. There is a wonderful aura of mystery surrounding her without making her too confusing.
Secondary characters are also believable and easy to understand. 5 stars.
Overall, this is a good story with a mountain of potential, and I hope someday to come back and see there have been updates because this story is Quality in th

I really like this. It's setting up a great mystery. Gabriel is an interesting name. And how many worlds she has in this story, makes me think of our planets. The chapter is very long, I think it would be easier if it was broken down into smaller chapters.  But it really does have my attention! Want to keep reading it.
