- KevinZRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The pace of this story is excellent, and unlike so many stories these days, where you know how it is going to end, I have no idea with this one. The characters are so different from each other and unique that I just hope they all get their just deserts by the end.
I also really appreciate how the action is done in this story. You aren't just getting rolls on a random encounter table, but each conflict reveals something else about a character or develops a skill you didn't know they had. And the characters aren't OP yet (after Chapter 9), so there is plenty of room for them to grow and develop.
The world is also creative, with unique monsters and competing religious factions, each hoping for a different resolution to the same problem. I hope we get to see that resolution in this story, and it will be interesting to see how all the interpretations of the prophecies play out.
I created a RR account to follow this author, as I enjoyed his published works, but if this is an example of the quality of stories you can find here, I will definitely be sticking around to read more. - NexileRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Heart. Mind. Body. Spirit. This story presents the background of a theological battle and the journey of Ethan and Sera as they find themselves in the crossfire. You didn’t like that? What if I told you there was a lot more beneath the surface?
STORY: The Elements (the four I mentioned at the beginning, remember?) are tied to the creation of humans, tangible powers that represent different aspects of a living being. In balance, they create unity and perfection. So… what if you only had one? Precisely the question being put to the front, and we get to learn the answer through one of the main characters. This sort of speculation hooked me. Having good things is obviously good, right? Wrong. And we get to see exactly how and why.
The worldbuilding was well done and it gave enough to make me really get into the story without too much bogging down the story. Tensions were also high and kept me reading (despite me being super tired at the time!). Also, given the event that happens in the first few chapters, a big question pops up. I mentioned a theological battle, and one of our main characters is tied to one side – so what happens when her friend’s life may depend on the other side being right?
Alright, alright, no more open questions. Back to the story and the good stuff.
STYLE: The writing was pleasant to read, lots of poetic descriptions, but not too flowery. Just right. No complaints about the pacing either. A very smooth flow. One gripe I had was that there were some info dumps. Not too many and not too big, but they did bother me a little (maybe it’s just my bias for the theme).
CHARACTERS: Ethan and Sera are great. It takes us literally five sentences to learn exactly what’s going on between them (with poor subtlety from both sides). There’s also fun (not for them!) tension going on between them given their different theological views. And she’s a priest. Ouch.
We also have Natasha. Mama’s very clear in what she wants. One chapter and I loved her.
Due to a certain - Sam TolanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I found this story through the list of Writathon partipants, and it seemed interesting. With the Review contest part of April 2022's Writathon, I decided to commit myself to reviewing this story as well.
So far, I haven't found anything that bothered me or took me out of the story, which is honestly a major achievement. The pacing of the story is wonderful. Not too fast or too slow, and leaves me curious about what will happen next. The world is lovingly crafted, from the unusual monsters and beings to the factions and organizations looming over the characters.
I am really curious about the prophecies and how the story will go. I am eager to follow and continue this story, which is often rare for me of late.
Action isn't just fight scenes but moments of growth and developing a skill. It's done in a way that feels natural to me, which is what I strive to write and prefer to read.
Overall, I quite enjoyed this story. It is more a traditional story than a webnovel, which might mean it is slower to gain popularity and followers. However, I believe in the author! There is so much potential there, and so much I am curious about and want to see expanded. I look forward to what is to come, and wish you the best. - Adam SampsonRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a low magic fantasy story. There is plenty of magic in the story, it just isn’t the overwhelming power kind of magic. Injuries take time to heal instead of just being hand waved away. The main characters have to actually travel from point a to b instead of just teleporting.
The story has good characterization and I didn't see any grammar errors. It's got all the standard components of an epic fantasy. There is a guy who needs to save the world with his unique magic, a group of evil guys he needs to fight, and a talented sidekick to serve as a foil. I don’t think it is a spoiler to say there is some romantic tension there. The action starts pretty quickly, and doesn't let up. The main characters are always stumbling from one emergency to the next.
I would recommend skipping the prologue. It is dense worldbuilding prophecies that you don’t really need to read. They are important later, but the characters discuss them, so you don’t have to read the prophecies yourself.
My only complaint is that it is overly wordy. The descriptions of everything are well written, but there are simply too many of them for my tastes. I personally think the first chapter could have been a thousand words shorter and lost nothing. Your mileage may vary.
