- nagolRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly I’m not usually one for making reviews but I thought I’d be nice for once and help the author out since this book clearly deserves more readers than it’s getting.
So I guess I’ll just point what I think this book’s got going for it and my own grievances.
The system isn’t anything too fancy but it does give that litrpg kick, which is quite nice; but the main thing this story has got going for it is the characters, plot, skill in using darker tones with care to add depth, and change in scenery of arcs where there is rewarding character development and story telling through a range of genres where stagnation isn’t a problem.
So to my only grievances would also be part of what I think makes this book so good: the darker undertones, it’s really quite sad how everything gets ripped away from Bjorn over and over again, but nevertheless I think it adds to the story and is a good thing for it to have; and lastly this book really needs a cover, seriously it would get so many more views if it got a nice one, even using AI would be better than a blank cover - MeciniaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5For a first time writer this is a good story :). I'm really enjoying Bjorn learning about his new world. I sometimes wonder if his previous very short life as the half orc was also on Eld, perhaps we'll find out someday. Anyway I really like the story and it has classical story elements that have endured the test of time.
- BlackGreenRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story is really well written but the plot and pacing need a lot of work to the extent that it feels at times like several stories have been joined together when each might have landed better individually.
The first sequence is a incredibly dark survival story with a slave arc including rape being used as a plot device.
Then you have a solid adventure sequence which lasts until a war arc.
This arc as a separate story could be a winner but is much slower paced and goes on for far too long in the context of the preceding chapters.
Then comes a happy family slice of life which if anything is even slower but is really well done if slice of life is your thing.
This ends very abruptly at chapter 68.
It's actually ended in a single chapter with the murder and rape of the main characters wife and murder of his child after thousands of words and many chapters dedicated to their developing life together.
As I say the author has real talent as a writer and I enjoyed both the adventuring and the slice of life sequences but I can't give a higher rating due to the jaring nature of the plot swings which ultimately led me to unfollowing. - eueueueueu12345Royal Road★ 0.5It starts well, if you consider the text a draft, but then it goes downhill. For example: he spends a lot of time choosing a really nice first ability, but then discards all care about the second - as if life were a game and he could change it later. Then for a negative ability he picks air magic, something potentially very useful (if it had air it might have had something more niche). Then he says he's a tough guy and picks orc. After death, he swears at the guy controlling his life. Charon pick his options next (better) and we get a whine about a normal name. Starts walking around without a plan orcare about predators. Sees rabbit, realises he's hungry and hunts it. Then the "tough guy" cries 10min. for letting the rabbit suffer a few extra moments out of negligence. Tough guy then leaves without the rabbit. I think I've made it clear why it gets .5 stars.
