- iEchoRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5At this point in the story, we have not seen much of the Dream Tree, but instead the story has focussed on Merin’s first incarnation as Kanoru, a samurai in a chakra cultivation world. If you chose this book—like I originally did—because you wanted to read about a tree cultivating, this story may not be for you. Yet, I would encourage you to read it anyways! This story focuses on multiple different lives Merin goes through. There might be some brief tree cultivation between lives to process gathered energy, but this is conjecture at this point as the first arc has yet to conclude at the time of writing this review.
While the grammar is not perfect, I still find I am able to understand the story fluently almost all of the time. Additionally, there are some story elements and ideas the main character has stated he plans to pursue, but some of them have not been realized. This is not something I can harp on too heavily, as I understand that even in real life goals can fall through due to new information, experience, or environmental factors. I would have, however, liked to see some insight into his thoughts on why he traveled down certain paths and neglected others, but overall this doesn’t strongly take away from the story.
I have found that the character has developed throughout the story, distancing himself from the idea of it being a “fake life” or having no meaning other than accruing energy, and instead embracing his connections and the world around him as he has aged and gained wisdom, which was something I liked to see.
I apologize if this review is a bit disconnected and all over the place—it is my first book review—but thank you for reading it anyways. This is a book I have been following for a couple weeks now, and I hope to see good things from it. If you are a fan of progression, action, and strong but not OP main characters, this book might be for you. If you are not a fan of those elements, give it a read anyways, you might just have your expectations ov
