The Dream: Integration
Community Rating
Description
My mother always told me never to make life changing decisions when upset or angry.
When humanity was forced into 'The Dream' I couldnt avoid the biggest decision of my life. I was not prepared for the consiquences of that single decision. Thrown into a situation far outside of my depths I was forced to fight for my life and sanity.
My name is Erick Sanders. I was a heart broken idiot during the first night of 'The Dream' When humanity was linked in a single Dream state, an advanced replica of the universe, The world changed forever. That first night, I thought I deserved to be in the Fifth Tier. I may have been wrong.
I experienced many things in those following weeks. Fear, Depression, Slavery, Agony, Hope, Drive and Power.
This is the story of my experience and that of humanity.

I may be slightly biased as all of the small details really make me smile.
Gotta love kiwi's representing on the big stage ya know!
Thanks for the awesome story Valky! - Bacon MacleodRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Fantastic story, and very cool to see a story set in my own remote corner of the world.
That half star review was moronic, yes the MC is irrational, dumb, and emotional in the first chapter or two. But I think any actual adult with life experience who has gone through a bad long term relationship breakup, and has dealt with depression, can agree that grief will lead people to lash out and act very very abnormally.
story is very interesting, mc is a badass (but not a teenage weebs interpretation of what a 'badass' should be), world building is riveting, and grammar and writing style is impeccable. - Matthew RobinsonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Binged the whole thing to chapter 19 in one sitting. Compelling characters, I wasn't certain at the beginning but Erick grew on me. Concept seems well thought out and developed so far. Occasional grammar issues, mainly misspelled words and repeating of words. Probably just needs a proofreader rather than a hardcore edit.
I've added this to my follow so I can enjoy another bitesize morsel of reading during the week. May do a more in-depth review as more chapters are added. - danieljinkersonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's an enjoyable story so far told from two protagonist’s perspectives, each starting their journey in a different way. Give it a try and see if its for you.
- kakahiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Read the whole thing in one day. Loved it.
Was a slightly rocky start, but the characters became more real as it went on. Their decisions were understandable. I think there seems to be a split in commenters and reviewers about what is and is not a believable action for an adult. Honestly, I have seen full grown adults throw tantrums at shops because something was not on sale. Ericks mood and actions in chapter one, while not being overly enjoayable to read were very understandable for someone in his position, especially if it was just a dream.
His heroics aren't over the top and he doesn't come across as being some OP shining light of heroic greatness, which is nice. Rose also just seems like a regular person, often her decision don't seem to make much sense but they arent unbelievable.
The story itself flows well enough that I had no issues reading it, no massive errors in plot that stick out like a sore thumb, atleast that i noticed.
Grammar could use a touch up, but nothing horiffic.
All in all Well worth the read while stuck at home. - CestarianRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is enjoyable, it has some positives and some negatives, a lot of people have been put off by the massive proportions of the protagonists tantrum over a bad breakup in the very first chapter.
Although it is a clear sign of mental instability there definitely are people who can react this way to a breakup, clearly the guy loved his girlfriend very much and felt an immense sense of loss, and that sense of loss got channeled into undirected anger, it's definitely not even a low possibility, although it might not be the level of maturity expected of a protagonist...
But that's what makes it interesting doesn't it? Right now I still can't say if the author is just as immature as his protagonist, or if he's deliberately writing his character so massively flawed to create room for growth. I mean I read the 30 chapters that are out now and I still can't really tell which way it's going to go. The biggest hint perhaps that this is what the author is deliberately planning is just the second paragraph of the first chapter; the reason for the girl breaking up with him is because she can't wait for him to "grow up" and indeed he's quite childish in this chapter so I can totally see where she's coming from.
I feel like the characters are a bit more realistic than I'm used to, most of them have some major personality flaws, ofte nnot making their choices based on logic and not necessarily emotions either, although there's plenty of those two there are also choices that might seem like the characters are subconsciously seeking out some form of stability that they're of course not going to find, but it leads them into some very bad decisions where a little logic could have lead them to a better situation. Not to mention, everyone's a fucking hypocrite :D
People sometimes just make bad or silly decisions for no explicable reason.
And if the author is doing this deliberately, I have to hand it to him, he's a freaking genius, but if it's just coincidentally written that way b - TheeyeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story is engaging and fun. But even better, the characters feel real. Make real choices. And aren't super op
- Nomad1791Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Not a lot to review but it hooked me all day till I finished. Well written and interesting I'll recommend anyone to give it a read.
- Sam WilliamsRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Solid story.
Unrelated to my rating of the story, their should be a virtual reality tag. I know it's not exactly VR but it's an artificial universe that the character enters via dreaming, seems close enough to warrant the tag. - Kalic1124Royal Road★ 0.5If the main character was 5 years old, then i might understand why he is acting that way but he is an adult. He basically is just throwing a tantrum. Couldnt make it past the second chapter. It was just.. bad. Grammer was fine though.
