- CD AcostaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you are a fan of stories that have worlds with MOUNTAINS of depth and lore then this series is full of it! Just from the very beginning you are thrust into a world that feels very real, and has a lot of history in it. And the exposition of the story is done very well, giving readers just enough to let them know what is happening, but also to keep them curious about what is to come!
Definitely a story that is worth giving a chance! - Shizzle BlitzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Dragon Realms Saga is a traditional fantasy story about elves, dragons and intrigue. It has an interesting world with great dialogue to boot. Unlike most RR stories, it has a slower and more classical pace to the story, following the characters from the exact start of their journies. The prose is well written, the dialogue is snappy. the first few chapters have some exposition, but it is there to setup the world and story that comes afterwards.
The world is an interesting place, with elves, dragons and humans intermixed. you get an insight into it within the very first few chapters, which i think paints a good picture of what's to come next. you also get an insight into some vague characters that will be important later. A lot of times, proper setup and payoff is not given in RR stories, so its much more appreciated here.
One of the things I think it does the best is the pacing. It's fast paced, but at an enjoyable rate. there is no bloated wordcount in the story where words are being shoveled one after another. And it keeps the mystique of the world instead of dropping everything on you at once.
Overall, I highly recommend this and hope the author continues to write more! - The Random CatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A tale of adventure, morality and emotion.
FancyOtter hath made, with words and verse,
A world full of wonders and sirs.
The forces fight and conspire,
As the readers sit in our spires,
And watch their war abound
The Style shows a complex light,
On the story’s messy blight,
A thousand webs interwoven in tandem,
And the Otter fails not in solving them,
As a skilled hand guides us through,
The life of Elucard true.
The Story has many moving parts,
And to those unaccustomed may seem much,
But I assure you that these many starts,
Just lead to a story that moves past,
And leads an interesting read fast.
The Grammar is not something I can critique,
After all, my own is very bleak,
But I found it not wanting,
And I hope neither shall you,
Oh reader of this review.
The Characters are what maketh this story,
And take it to its complex glory,
Elucard shows his dark brilliance,
Koda his immature kiddiance,
And Wiccer his brotherly magnificence.
And so I suggest to you,
To read this book too,
And go through a few chapters,
So we may enjoy it on the raptors,
And make merry among Elven truths! - Chaos JesterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This has been sitting in my to read list since it first started coming out, but hey, we finally made it. From the get go, you can tell that Otter has a masterful story to tell, and seeing it in action is beautiful.
There is little to no confusion on how the world works, the pace is smooth, and the characters are vast and well-rounded.
Style-wise, pacing is great. While the first few chapters are introductory chapters for three characters, they're used to explain the positions of different groups and to sprinkle lore throughout. I hope most people will agree, but sprinkles of lore and world building are much more preferred than one huge lore dump. Otter's descriptions are vivid, and nothing feels disjointed or out of place.
Grammar is clear and concise. No weird syntax issures. Any spelling or grammar mishaps aren't glaringly obvious, and nothing took me out of the immersion of reading my initial review chapters.
Even from the jump, you can feel how huge and deep this story can go. The world feels open and has moving parts whether the narrative is there or not. I feel like I could follow Elucard anywhere and know that his village is still ticking away to the sands of time. The full feeling of a living world is an amazing foundation for a story, and the lore on top of that creates a dynamic visual experience for a story.
As I stated earlier, characters are vast and well rounded. The vast part is the only real issue I have with it, but since I'm doing an initial review, I feel like some of the characters will be chipped or disposed eventually to gather focus on the main ones. That being said, there are plenty of dynamic characters for readers to identify with, and everyone plays their part absolutely perfectly.
Overall, this first book of Dragon Realms Saga starts off beautifully. It's already finished outside of Royal Road, so you don't have to worry about it suddenly dropping, and you're in for an amazing ride with great characters and amazing world.
Well done, Otter - WeavervaleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well the first couple of chapters are be re released and they are solid. I can see that the author put in the work to get this done and I realize that there's another book being written etc as he posts this. Additionally the book is already available in print which means this is already a complete work so I am not worried about him dropping it.
Black rabbits hmmmm
Cloaks hmmmm
I wonder how they will clash?

Grammar is good. The story is punch and to the point. I can see how the authors love for wresting plays out in his dynamic fight scenes. It's reallv a marvel to behold and he does them exceedingly well. 5/5
Story 5/5. I am not going to say that there are trope abound, but there are a few point where I was like... this got telegraphed a bit and this didn't. Some of the reveals really got me good. I got attached to an outcome that didn't happen and it was fine.
Char 5/5
The characters are realistic. However they telegraph their inner thoughts a bit on the nose at times. The writing improves a lot, but you can tell that characters wear their hearts on their sleeves a lot. Or their dark demeanor. ETC - Freya StoneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What a brilliant world FancyOtter has created! It's a phenomenal read full of flushed-out characters, well-developed lore and exciting action!
Style: The first chapters introduce a few different characters, setting a brilliant tone for the difference of people seen throughout this world. There are sometimes different character POV's within chapters separated through page breaks, making each shift very easy to follow and understand. Backstory is delivered perfectly through conversation or within the scene itself. The pace of this story is phenomenal and leaves you wanting more.
Story: This story is amazing. In only the first few chapters you're made very aware of the extensive time and work that has gone into building this world. There is a completely developed universe within this book and I can't wait to discover more as the story unfolds. As a fledgling author myself, it's been a pleasure to read through these pages and take notes on how to properly world build! :)
Grammar: This story has read as a professionally edited book. I didn't take note of any mistakes while reading, if they were there, they weren't noticable nor immersion breaking.
Character: FancyOtter truly understands how to create characters. Elucard, Wiccer, Legion... absolutely all of them are unique and clear in their differences. From the first chapter you chose people to love, to distrust, to be curious about and to pity. All the emotions are there and spot on. The dialogues are executed to perfection, with each word making sense for the character saying them.
Overall: This is a wonderful story filled with action, emotions, worldbuilding and incredible characters. I would highly reccomend any and all to read this epic tale!! - JMMatheisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0‘The Dragon Realms Saga’ is a great entry into a deep and well-imagined world that follows three main characters and their path into the light or delving into darkness. Intriguing characters, world-building and compelling storytelling makes this a joy to read and indulge in.
Characters + Story:
The main characters are very well conceived and drive the story well. The main protagonist, Elucard’s story is very well constructed and follows his dark path as he undergoes rigorous training with the Black Rabbits. There are support characters that he meets that are truly inspiring reads that having me coming back for more! But, Elucard is just one of the main three, each of which have their own compelling tale, history and future to tell.
FancyOtter98 has a great handle on world-building, lore and delivering a fast moving tale with an epic level of scope that really gives the story and world the characters live in a gritty, lived-in feel with rich history just waiting to be explored.
Style:
Setting up the three main characters and their introduction chapters immediately after each other may seem counter-intuitive to some. But once those highly entertaining introductions are experienced, you know exactly where you stand and can’t wait to see where each story thread leads. The writing style that FancyOtter98 employs is perfect for delivering a story of this nature and pacing. It progresses at a good pace and delivers with action, thrills and spills to keep you coming back for more!
Grammar:
Grammar and punctuation is clean and clear with no noticeable errors that distract from the immersion of the tale.
Overall, I highly recommend ‘The Dragon Realms Saga’ to anyone wanting to get into a well-crafted tale that has a flourishing world, deep lore and epic scope along with compelling characters and storyline. Knowing that this first book is already completed and published outside of Royal Road is an extra bonus! I know I will be returning to experience this through to the end! - Josh WellsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: The reader is thrust into a world that has clearly been very well thought-out - and I love it! The author does an outstanding job of "show don't tell". He also perfectly drops details to the reader in a way that doesn't feel force-fed in the slightest. I am very impressed with the quality, so much so that I envy the authors skill and wish I could mimic the same in my own writing. I could be nitpicky with a few things in the text, yet that wouldn't be doing it justice. It is far above most of the content I see here. This is a very strong recommendation.
Style: The story reads like it has undergone extensive editing. Everything feels like it has been delivered smoothly. There is no jarring transitions between paragraphs, nor between dialogue and narration.
Story: The story is well thought out. It extends in a direction that has obviously been planned and sculpted from the start. My only gripe would be that it dives into things a little too fast timetimes. That may be a personal preference but the author could alternatively spend some more time in the earlier parts of the story - fleshing on the more mundane details of the world setting the scene, and making the reader fall in love with the MC - before jumping into introducing the reader to the 'less mundane' fantasy elements. Again, maybe just preference so I am hesitant to deduct any points here.
Grammar: No complaints here. I'm not a harsh critic on grammar but nevertheless, the story was flawless in this regard.
Character: The characters in this story stood out for me. In a very good way! I am used to being a little more forgiving with some of the characters and content in general on this website, yet right from the start I found the characters in this novel to be delivered in a way I would expect only from a fully published, and successful, book. - Void QuillRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ve only read the first few chapters of The Dragon Realms Saga, but I’m already hooked. The emotional depth of the dialogue stands out right away, and it’s clear that the author has a real talent for making even the smallest exchanges feel meaningful. There’s a balance of intense action and heartfelt moments that keeps things moving without ever feeling rushed. I’m especially appreciating the thoughtful way LGBTQ+ characters are introduced, they’re portrayed with respect and nuance, adding richness to the story. It’s shaping up to be an exciting, emotional journey, and I can’t wait to see where it goes!
